Overview

Throughout its history, Fender® has always made a special point of welcoming new players to the family by offering entry-level instruments of remarkable style and substance (such as the Duo-Sonic™, Mustang® and Musicmaster® models), with great sound, classic looks, solid performance and eminent affordability. The Modern Player series continues that great my-first-Fender tradition, with thoroughly modern features and several distinctively unconventional new takes on our most revered instruments-all with outstandingly attainable value.

The Modern Player Jaguar Bass® presents a lean, mean and stripped-down version of the ultra-sleek bass model, with a powerful P/J configuration-a Modern Player Precision Bass middle pickup and Modern Player Jazz Bass® bridge pickup-and streamlined control configuration. Features include a koto body, C-shaped maple neck, maple fretboard with 9.5” radius and 20 jumbo frets, three-ply parchment pickguard, three Jazz Bass control knobs (middle volume, bridge volume, master tone), vintage-style four-saddle bridge with brass saddles, open-gear tuners and nickel/chrome hardware.

Great bass!

By Carol

from Port Richey, Florida

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

Just overall a great bass. Neck plays nice and smooth, no sharp frets at all! pickups are pretty decent, and the bridge seems solid. Nothing to really complain about other than it is a little on the heavy side, and as with most basses, the tone control hardly does anything. In comparison to the vintage modified jaguar, I think this bass is much better quality. 10/10 would recommend to others

way beyond a Squier and then some!!!!

By Robert Brown

from Cedar Mountain North Carolina

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

This is by far the most bass you can get for this price, no doubt. I have owned 4 Squier basses (modified jazz, precision Squier, Fretless Squier, and the Active IV all black Squier, and a Standard Jazz, and this is the best of the group. I also own the MIJ Jaguar, and the FMP Jaguar will give its big brother a good run for the money. It came setup correctly; ready to jam. I was not so sure on "Koto" for the body, but find this wood to be right there with Alder wood. Go for it!!!!

Great bass especially for the money

By John Crookston

from South Jordan, Utah

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

I have always been a Fender player, I have three P Basses , a Jazz and the Jaguar. I really like the tone and the neck. I did have to straighten the neck a couple of times and adjust the actio and harmonics.overall I really enjoy playing it. It is not a P Bass or a Jazz bass but it works well for what I do. I dom't think that you can get a better quality axe for the same money. Grate Bass.

awesome look and value

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

for those of you wanting a rad looking offset vintage style bass at a lower cost, than this is for you...classic jaguar shape without all of the chrome and switches...simplifies it, in a good way..the neck is the highlight...maple top, nice fretwork, full scale, blocks...absolutely stellar neck...the knobs work well and have a wide scale of tones...the pickups are of great quality, though unbalanced...the pbass pickup has more output, and more boom...the jbass pickup is snappier and has lower output, it also has a bit of hum....best position is with the pbass volume at full and the jbass volume at about 5-6, with the tone knob at full...the bridge is very nice, with its brass saddles... this bass is an awesome value and looks really cool...i wish it was made in mexico instead of china.

Almost As Good As A Squier?

By Dave Wiese

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

I was initially irritated that this was released about 2 months after I bought my Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar, as this is a "FENDER". I own 3 other Fenders, and the Squier, which is a great bass, but there's always that aspect of Squier being a "lesser" bass. This bass feels a little chunkier than the Squier version, has standard volume-volume-tone control configuration (the Squier has the stacked pots which are more versatile), and a P-J pickup configuration which is good, but the Duncan Designs on the Squier version have more tonal character than the stock pickups on these. Also, the Squier version is $100 cheaper. The body is koto(?), which seemingly has similar tonal quality to the agathis that Squier uses. But this bass DOES say "FENDER" on the headstock... I love this bass, but I'd recommend changing the pickups in it, as they're kind of flat sounding, but so do most stock Fender pickups. I tend to use Duncan Basslines on my basses. Everything about this bass is of the same caliber as the Fender Standard basses that cost considerably more. The bridge is similar to the higher mass bridges being used on American Standards which is also a plus (I'm looking to change the stock bridge on my Squier to one of these or a Leo Quan).

Excellent!

By Jonah Bibo

from Mentone, CA

Comments about Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Bass Guitar:

Went into my local GC saturday to do some looking around. This didnt instantly catch my eye. I played a schecter and an Ibanez, neither of which were my style. I then tried this out thinking it would be like a squire and was astonished at the quality. I knew I had to have it. First of all, the bass is extremely comfortable to play, very well balanced. The neck is super smooth, and plays like a dream, especially for my jazzy prog-y style. I played everything from simple songs like "seven nation army" to "la villa strangiato" just to make sure it could handle all styles. Simply, amazing. The pickups are exceptional as well. The p pickup carries the punch of well, a p-bass, very well, and the jazz is quite jazzy. the tones i've gotten in the last 48 hours are amazing. Tones perfect for picking to slapping and everything in between. The maple fretboard sounds freat as well, and I love the 70's headstock. Cons are few, though it does have trouble staying in tune from time to time. On of the screws on the bridge was loose, an easy fix. Overall, the bass is fantastic. It has a lot of variety in its sounds, and is great for slapping and play genres like prog or jazz. 5 out of 5 for this beauty. Oh and, for those who think its a pretty quire? It's not. Its far better.
