AMAZING

By Punkbassist31

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

I got this bass a couple years ago and it hasn't failed me yet. It sounds great and looks great. A lot of people question the bass because of the lack of a tone knob, but believe me. The tone is PERFECT. Mark Hoppus knew exactly what he was doing when he made this bass. This bass is great for virtually any style of music, but if you play pop punk it's no question - BUY THIS BASS. It's a great deal for the price.

Awesome Signature Series Bass

By Brooklyn Fender Enthusiast

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

When the Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Series Bass first came on the market I said I need to have that. I saved my money for a while and then I purchased the bass in Daphne Blue. I was amazed with the sound and tone of the bass. I use this bass with one of two amps either my Fender Bassman 400 Stack or my Fender Rumble 100 Combo both of which the Hoppus Signature Series Fender sounded great out of. I actually have dropped this bass as a result of a strap malfunction. It got to the point where and you can actually see the wood of the body, but it still sounds great reproducing Mark's sound, and I would suggest the Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Series Bass to anyone going for awesome tone wrapped in great value.

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

This is a great bass. It has a very nice tone to it so you dont have to worry about the one volume knob. ANd anyone who knows Blink-182 will agree that this bass sounds exactly like the bass hoppus uses and its also good for any other genre of music. its worth the price for a great bass

BEST BASS IVE PLAYED...

By killarando

from Chino/Ca

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

yeah its prolly the best bass ive have ever played... the pickups are great... although if your a slap or finger bassist... it would definatly not suggest this... the pickups are very low tipped.. so its best 2 use a pick... but overall... AWESOME bass... definately worth the price.

Must Be Said

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

Well, This must be said. This bass is made in Mexico. I know that Fender basses made in Mexico are cheaper and not quite the quality of the Japan or American made basses. It only has a volume knob and no tone control. So, if you want a bass that's overpriced, not that well made and has no tone buy this bass. But, believe me a bass without tone sucks. Don't waste your money on this bass, buy a precision bass or jazz bass.

what i expected

By john

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

this bass sounds exactly like mark hoppus sounds. by changing the tones on your amp you can alter it a bit, but for me it seems to always sound like his signature tone. the look and feel of the bass is great. its a little on the heavy side. my only complaints are the action is rather high, so i'll need to get that adjusted. also, there is noticeable buzzing when you arent touch any strings. it sounds like amp feedback and only goes away if youre touching a string. ive read other reviews where this was an issue as well. its very noticeable and very annoying. you wouldnt want to go on stage with it like this. once i get those two issues fixed, this will be the perfect bass. just beware you may need to spend a little extra once you get it if you encounter these issues as well. i gave it 4 stars because of my 2 issues. if not for the buzzing in particular it would get 5

PERFECT TONE PERFECT BASS

By matt

from chicago IL

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

oh man where do i start???? I got this thing for christmas after a year of wanting one. As most people looking at this product are, i was skeptical about the one volume knob. Once i played this bass i realized that the bass has the one and only tone a blink-style bassist needs! its very deep, very trebly, very crisp even with dead strings! This bass combines the jazz bass body (more wood) for more resonance, the precision bass neck (thicker) for less warping and more comfortable playing, with the precision bass pickup (seymour duncan) for the signature pop punk college bass tone we all love. This bass is very light, very comfortable, and looks great on stage. Anyone who wants to break the mold of the boring jazz or pbass...and wants to have the tone that changed punk music forever, this is for you! It doesnt matter if your'e 12 years old or 90 years old, you WILL love this bass! you'll be playing shows naked in no time!

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

This is a great bass. very playable. It sounds best with pop punk (naturally). I could stand for a tone knob or another feature, but thats not really needed because of the amazing tone the bass already packs. its heavy, but ull get used to it and love it. also might i add that the colors are quite cool(I have the surf green). Also this is Mark Hoppus signature!! hes a legend. this is the only bass i use for my stuff seriously. My reccomendation would be GET THIS BASS

hah!

By zac is sold TO his TELE

from wylie Texas

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

I've been a guitarist/bassist for thriteen years...and I'm a total tone freak. Jazz basses and Thunderbirds were always the studio choices. But I've been looking for something budget and unique to use in my own project. Hah! what negative reviews were written in tonal spite! I also happen to be an engineer...and we prefer the tone undulled if you know what I mean. The set tone in this thing is like a Highway 1 P-bass with it's tone knob cranked. Punk bassists....hate on Hoppus...not his bass! You can squeeze a good tone outta any axe given it's amp and pre-amps when it comes to Fender P & Jazz basses. I personally want to buy this bass because it's unique and it ain't gonna be around forever!

if you play chords on a bass. this is for you

By dbeat warrior

from Santa Barbara, California

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

iv had this bass for 4 years and i still cant put it down. I know people who have spent a lot of money on custom basses and strings of pedals because its becoming more and more popular to play 2 and 3 string chords on a bass guitar, something a lot of bass guitars can not handle and something mark hoppus has done ever since the beginning of blink and something he had in mind when he designed this guitar. This bass is a perfect combo of the jazz body and precision pickups to make it ideal for playing 2 and 3 string bass chords, while at the same time making regular bass lines extremely smooth. I have the white/black one which is so pretty and i love it so much im saving for a black/black one for my next tour. Get an overdrive pedal and it will make it even better.

BUY THIS BASS

By Bassist

from US

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

This bass has everything you can possibly ask for. Whether you like Hoppus or not, this bass surpasses all others. Just the feel of it is amazing. I myself am a precision man, but with this you get a feel of both precision and jazz. It's almost like a jazz bass, but with a wider neck which makes it easier to move around on. The pickups also add a great addition to the sound as well. Worth every penny. Buy this bass, you wont regret it.

"One-Trick Pony", but I love this bass!

About Me Experienced

Pros

  • "Hybrid" Bass
  • Good Pick Up
  • Good Tone
  • Nice Features

Cons

  • "Limited"

Best Uses

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

I purchased this bass off the GC "used" website about 6 months ago. I always wanted a "Hoppus" sig, mainly because it is a "hybrid" bass- a Jazz bass body paired with a Precision Neck and Pickup (reverse). I purchased the "newer" / 2nd Generation Sig, which is made of Ash instead of Alder (in addition to being "see-through" on the finish). The pickup was "reversed" from the "traditional" Fender Precision placement but the sound is not too drastic in tonal difference.

The bass is slightly limited with only a Volume pot (no tone knob), so sometimes you have to "tinker" with your amps EQ to get a desired sound (i.e. "Fat", "Smooth"/cutting the High Frequencies). It comes stock with an aftermarket Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound pickup that is fat/agressive but slighly "Mid-Scooped".

Overall I really enjoy this bass- I Precision guy till I die and I really love that it is a J-Bass body. Fender did a much better job with the 2nd Generation signatures as opposed to the first run.

An instrument you can't not get!

    By EnEmAoFtHeSk8

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

as i kid i loved blink-182 so seeing this bass i was like oh my god! i need that! as i grew up i played a fender jazz bass. and my buddy owned this one. he started to play drums and offered to give me the bass. ever since ive played it its amazed me. i play in a pop punk/rock band and the bass is exactly what is needed. its color (daphne blue) stands out and has the unique feel. its very comfortable, stylish. and NEVER goes out of tune. somehow its incapable of doing that. i def. would recommend this bass to ANYONE!

Definitely the best bass I've ever played

    By Pat

    from Solon

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

I have owned this bass for almost 6 years. It is hard for me to find a bass that actually feels good. I own two of these (daphne blue and pink) and I have gone through ALOT of different basses but this is by the best. The neck feels great the tone is awesome, regardless of how people say you need a tone knob you dont, they nailed a solid sound with it. I'm a big blink-182 fan so this bass is perfect for a collector and even if your just in the market for a good piece of equipment.

    Get it While it Lasts!

    By Dave

    from Milwaukee WI

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

NOTE: The Hoppus that is shown here is the original Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass, and not the updated one. The new one has that 70's looking neck with the better finish like the new Standard series, the see-through finishes on the body (the green looks awful), and the reversed SPB-3 Quarter-Pound P pickup, which changes the overall tone and attack slightly (but enough). The original Hoppus has the traditional pickup placement that Fender's used since the 50's. The New Hoppus should have been offered as a Custom Shop bass, rather than discontinue this bass. I've had this bass for 2 years now. The sound rivals my American Standard P-Bass which has the same pickup. The lack of tone knob is GREAT! If you want a bass that you can do tone changes with, get an active bass, as with passive basses, the tone controls only subtract the highs anyway. The neck is your typical Mexican made Standard Precission. There have been some downsides to this bass: 1) The tuner bushings are loose, and fall off sometimes when changing strings; not that major, but annoying. 2) The ferrels are loose, and again can fall out when changing strings (apparently my bass isn't the only one, as I've seen 2 used Hoppus' with missing ferrels). Also, the paint itself is rather thin, and I can now see the wood through the finish on the right arm contour on the front of the body, which I think looks cooler than the shiny Daphne Blue, but might annoy others. I bought this bass as a backup to my American Standard, and it now gets used as much as the American Standard. The SPB-3 pickup has more of a vintage tone with higher output and more punch than a standard P pickup. It's string-through-body, giving it better resonance than other Standard Precissions. Price is a bit steep, but worth it, even with it's shortcomings, especailly considering the new Hoppus is kinda backwards, and this bass is discontinued.

    Still an Awesome Bass

    By Steven Willis

    from Ohio

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

Allow me to review this again. I have before in the past but it was not the best review. This bass still earns five stars in my book. It's amazing for Punk, Pop-punk Alternative, things of that nature. However with the right amount of tweaking it can play almost anything. I have the bass in original shell pink. As it was given to me by a family member at Christmas. I Would not trade this bass for anything. The SPB-3's are fantastic, just get this bass set up in a music store and you're ready to go. I recommend this to any pop-punk fan.

    Great bass !

    By Katharine Lapre

    from Cumberland, R.I.

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

I was able to get my hands on a used Mark Hoppus bass at a great price in the green color. Love the punchy, trebly sound. Very easy to play. I don't know if the prior owner adjusted the action. Don't let the one knob deceive you. Has great tone and like other reviews, good for punk and alternative rock. I've tried Green Day and Nirvana on this bass and it goes well. One knob is all you need. Try for yourself and you'll see. I would definitely recommend.

    Great Bass!!

    By HoppusBass

    from OR

Comments about Fender Mark Hoppus Signature Bass Guitar:

The Mark Hoppus signature is a great bass. It has great tone if like a deep smooth low end with clean sparkling highs. It is also comfortable to play, fairly light, and rad looking! However, just like all basses it does have some weaknesses. First, the guitar can only produce 1 tone, because it has no tone nob. However, this problem is an easy fix, because tone is largely determined by what amp/pre-amp you use...Also, the guitar has gone up in price since I bought it, and I think it is a little steep... however, you will be hard pressed to find a better bass for less!!
