I'd like to show you why this guitar is the best value that I have seen for a bluesy guitarist ever. Don't let the fact that it is from the Mexican factory scare you off, the Mexican factory has been on a huge quality upswing over the past couple of years. Their guitars get better and better. Compared to a normal Mexi-Strat, the upgrades are staggering. Graph-tec saddles, a larger, satin finished neck with a 12 inch radius and jumbo frets. Upgraded tuners. And Signature Kenny Wayne Voiced pickups are all INCLUDED with this guitar. If you play blues, or any rock or country that necessitates bending strings and vibrato, you will appreciate the neck. Yes it is bigger and bulkier, but I have small hands and feel like the size of the neck actually helps me anchor my hand in a way that makes bends easier. My hand and arm do not wear out as easily with this size neck. The jumbo frets and 12 inch radius make bends effortless and accurate. After playing this neck, I personally want to change the neck of every other strat that I have to match this one. The voice of this guitar is so pleasing to a blues guitar player. This guitar has more sustain than any Mexi strat that I have ever played and the pickups are very unique. These pickups have a lot of tonal range which makes having the bridge pickup wired to a tone knob a very nice gift from Fender. It makes this guitar far more versatile. Whatever they have done with these pickups gives them a mid-scooped feel with a ton of presence. Metal heads won't appreciate it, but your tube amp is begging for these pickups. I would say that they have the SRV sound and can produce a soaring lead tone, much like Kenny Wayne's own sound. The only negatives to this guitar that I found were in the set-up. I had to get it reset. Changing the height of the pickups makes a huge difference in these particular pickups and gives you even more variety in your sounds. I personally believe that in a blind sound test and feel test, I could pick this guitar's sound and feel easily, and I know that I would choose it over ANY American Strat that GC had in stock at the time that I bought this.

I recently purchased a KWS Strat. I had read the reviews and couldn't wait to get my hands on one. SO, I traded in a few items so that I could swing it and get it in my hands. Disappointment set in: 1) Guitar Center not the friendliest or most honest group, 2) This strat had been played..a lot..pick marks evident, 3) not all 5 blade positions functioned and 4) as read on the other reviews, the high e string was way to close to the fret board edge, making it easy to knock the string off the frets. I too wonder why Fender would put this product out like this. Unfortunately, i could not take this piece home and got my dough back. I hope KWS has some kind of influence on the quality control issues with this guitar. I would purchase the KWS strat if problems fixed. I am looking at a Standard Fender and installing SRV pickups...save money and still get that great sound. Sorry KWS, your still tops in my book..

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have no complaints at all. Used to have a 40th anniversary USA Strat and this one is so much better. I think the Pick ups sound fantastic the tone control actually work and are quite useful . The graphite bridge saddles are the way to go and the neck. The neck is perfect nice and chunky you can play thumb over the top all night. I got the three tone sun burst and the one I got looks really good nice wood grain and all. You can't go wrong with this model and I will get another one soon. peace

Kenny Wayne Shepherd Strat. True vintage tone.

By Matt

from Hinckley, Il

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have been a KWS fan for so long. His signature Stratocaster has that classic vintage tone of a strat along with a few extras. The Graph Tech saddles really help with eliminating string breakage and give a nice ring to the high notes. The medium jumbo frets on this guitar are great because of how wide the neck is and they also help with those big bends. The pickups sound amazing. They are extremely clear and sound beautiful without any extra effects. The contour of the body feels great when playing sitting down and while standing up. The neck is flawless and makes the playing experience even better. My parents recently bought me the Arctic White one with the cross on it for Christmas. Yes the guitar is made in Mexico, but is sounds better than any other American made strat I have ever played. If the Made In Mexico decal was not printed on the back of the head stock, you would not be able to tell if it was made in Mexico or made in America. This is a great guitar for anyone who loves to jam out to the blues and and some rock. This guitar is worth every penny!

The best Guitar for Texas Blues

By Alfonso

from Villahermosa / Tabasco

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is an excellent choice for Texas Blues. The Neck is especially comfortable for bending; the bridge is firm and keeps the strings in tune. The pickups are the best approximation to the SRV style and I personally feel very comfortable with their sound, both clean and dirty. I chose the sunburst and think it has joined excellent finished. The price?. Impossible to improve based on this standard. The Duque Duque Blues Band

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The workmanship on this guitar was flawless. Also a great neck and pick ups. The only problem is that the high E string sits to close to the edge of the fret board. I had to take it in to a Fender Authorized repair center to have a new narrower bridge put on for the strings to fit the neck properly. Fender should let you know about this as they claim that is the way KWS likes it.

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have wanted this strat for a long time and finally got it. Bought it scratch and dent from musiciansfriend.com and can't find a single thing wrong with it. I have the white w/cross and mint green pickgaurd. It's awesome. Tone is awesome. The guitar has some heft to it for a strat but I like it. The neck is what sets it apart from any other strat I have previously owned. It feels like a baseball bat with strings on it. The pickup combos are very versatile for attaining different sounds. Buy this guitar if you want that KWS tone like I do.

Great strat for larger hands and Texas blues

    By RoadhouseStrat101

    from Waterloo, IA

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

    d
I was excited to get into a lower priced strat with a large neck, jumbo frets, and graphtech saddles tossed in. I have large hands and had resigned to the fact that unless I wanted to pony up for a more expensive strat, I was stuck with a modern c-shape (or similar). I got a used 3-tone burst from MF that was just like new (only cheaper). Setup was close to where I like it out of the box. I like high action, so I actually raised the middle strings a bit. Basically all I did was add springs to deck the trem, slap in some 11-guage strings, and start wailing away! I can tell already this will de-throne my other strats and become my main guitar. My only gripe is I wish it had the sweet looking vintage tint on the headstock like on my roadhouse. The maple is very white looking. Otherwise I like the looks and the neck feels better than any I've played. The jumbo frets make bending noticeably easier as well. I may replace the pickups at some point, but I'm giving these a chance for now. Hum on the bridge and neck are less noticeable than my other strats. I wish I had bought one back when they were less...better late than never.

    Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster

    By Bruce Hanford

    from Taaayxas

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Well-made guitar. Frets are finished nicely. Fast satin finish on the neck. Fat, very stable neck. Strings resonate nicely at each fret. Good sustain. Good tuners - no lash. Nice, flatter fingerboard radius. String action a touch high out of the box.

Low and high E strings are too close to the fretboard edge for my tastes.
Nice example of a stratocaster with a flatter (12-inch) fingerboard radius. Good quality tuners. Six, height adjustable bridge saddles Three single coils which seem to be pretty well shielded, keeping them quiet. Nicely contoured body shape.
    Good craftsmanship.
Pretty damned good for the price. Much better value than, say a Les Paul Standard.

Great sound. Great style. Overall very impressed.

    By Rick Szymanski

    from Canonsburg, PA

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I will start by saying I bought this guitar used. So, it had already been "broken in" for a couple years before I got my hands on it. It's my first and only Fender guitar so far. First impressions: the thing sounds great and plays fantastic. The KWS custom pickups seem to have that true strat sound with maybe a tad less bite. Chords ring out clear and it's got that raw bluesy energy to it. Overall, I am impressed with the sound quality. One reason I had avoided Fender Strats all these years is I can't stand lacquered necks. Seems most of them have that annoying sticky quality on the back and I prefer unfinished. The KWS Strat has a satin finish, so it is quite smooth and fast. That feature alone convinced me to wander into Fender land. Many people mention the neck being thick. If you're coming from the paper-thin Ibanez shredder side, then yeah, it's got a bit of heft to it. But this guitar is geared toward blues and rock with lots of bends and strumming, so the neck just feels right in my hand at least... and I have small-ish hands. The guitar seems to stay in tune rather well. Then again, I have the trem pulled tight against the body so it's not floating, so that helps. I haven't even put the whammy bar on yet. Now on to the quality: Being that this is my first Fender, I lack the experience to compare this MIM axe to the more expensive American-made ones. The stain job and finish of the body looks great, though the body wasn't cut from one plank of wood. It's three boards glued together. But I have to look very closely to notice the joints in the wood. The body is weighty and is sculpted just right. The bolt-on neck is straight and the frets are even and filed along the side very well. No sharp edges on this one. The action on mine was set moderately low and it has no buzzing. The knobs and switches work perfectly. My only major complaint: the nut and bridge string spacing is too wide for this neck. The high E (bottom) string is practically on the edge of the neck. If I'm not careful, the string will slip off the fingerboard entirely when soloing. I'm going to have a local luthier custom make a new nut with slightly narrower string spacing and maybe shave down the sides of the saddles a hair to avoid this issue altogether. Other than that though, I really enjoy the guitar. It was worth every penny.

    a modern blues axe

    By TheDistortionist

    from Southern California

Comments about Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

While strolling around my local Guitar Center, I found this on the wall and immediately picked it up after all I had heard about it. Well, it didn't disappoint. I plugged into a Fender deluxe and the fireworks began. First of all, the neck is perfect. It's big, the fretboard is flat, and the frets are high. My favorite specs on a neck. The pickups (which took a year and a half to design) were amazing. Bell tones in the first four, and a surprisingly fat bridge pickup. Overall, good-looking, good-playing, and good-sounding. A little pricy, but a better deal than American Standards (ripoffs).
