Specialized features of the Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar Electric Guitar include custom-wound, Bare Knuckle Johnny Marr single-coil neck and bridge pickups; custom-shaped maple neck with rosewood fingerboard based on Marr's 1965 Jaguar; vintage-style truss rod; lacquer finish; and Marr's signature on the front of the headstock.

The 4-position blade-style pickup switch is mounted to the lower-horn chrome plate (bridge; bridge and neck in parallel; neck, bridge, and neck in series) while 2 upper-horn slide switches control pickup brightness. Other distinctive features include a Jaguar bridge with Mustang saddles and nylon bridge post inserts for improved stability; vintage-style, floating tremolo tailpiece with chrome cover; and "taller" tremolo arm with arm-sleeve nylon insert to prevent arm swing.

Marr is best known, of course, as the strikingly dynamic and influential anti-hero guitarist-arranger-allaround-musical-wunderkind behind Manchester quartet the Smiths, which virtually redefined and ruled U.K. pop throughout the 1980s. A master of melody, layering, and texture, Marr has always brought his own instantly identifiable ringing, jangling genius to the proceedings, as he has done in post-Smiths stints with The The, Electronic, the Pretenders and Johnny Marr and the Healers, and right up to the present with Modest Mouse, the Cribs and innumerable guest appearances. Includes case.

Fender Jaguar

By Douglas Turner

from New Orleans, la.

Comments about Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar Electric Guitar:

I purchased the Johnny Marr Jaguar a few days ago and I am very pleased with the quality and sound/tone of this newest offering from Fender. I already owned a Strat and a Tele and have mostly used the Tele on gigs. However I always liked the looks of the Jaguar and after learning of the approach Johnny took in building this model I decided it just might be made for me, well it is. I play mostly rhythm with some lead in my band and I love the tone I am able to achieve with the 4 way switch and the filtering switches, as well as the tremolo bar. I play the Jaguar through my Fender Hot Rod and after playing guitar for over 45 I have finally found the "ultimate rig" for me. I am very pleased with this purchase, only negative so far is the knob on the 4 way switch fell off the first time I played the guitar, so a little spot of glue took care of that, also I adjusted the action to suit me.

Fantastic Instrument

Comments about Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar Electric Guitar:

This is the perfect guitar for the style that I play. You can achieve a wide variety of tones from Retro-60's to modern rock. As far as playability this guitar is the smoothest I've played. It's beautiful and all of the modifications are practical and make sense. I tried out multiple American Deluxe and Standard Stratocasters and didn't like any as much as this one. Solid guitar, very happy with the purchase.

Most fun I've ever played

By Steve Cartwright

from San Jose, CA

Comments about Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar Electric Guitar:

I just joined surf rock band and at least wanted to look the part! The Classic Players Jaguars are nice.. but this thing is great! The fit & finish of the neck is incredible (thicker than most Jags) The short scale, vintage frets, and 7.25" fingerboard make it incredibly easy to play. And photos don't do justice to the KO color.. the metallic orange with a hint of copper is gorgeous. But what really makes this Jag stand out is the sound. The specially would pickups eliminate the thin sound often associated with a Jaguar- and the 4th position on the pickup selector switch puts the 2 pickups in series for a deep humbucker sound. (if you find the sound too deep, the high-pass filter switches take out some of the low end without leaving the sound thin) Oh, and the tremolo really is Fender's smoothest. I have more expensive guitars - but none as nice or as fun to play as this one!

Comments about Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Love it. Love it. Love it. I was never a fan of the Jaguars. Too many switches and too many noises. I'm a minimalist. A great guitar should do 2 or 3 things, and do them very well. The Jaguar has always been, to me, a jack of all trades and a master of none. However, now, Fender got it right with this Johnny Marr Jag. The trimmed the fat, and now it sings.
What it does well: Tone baby...forever. Twang monster to a nice bite. Neck and action are amazing. Short scale is perfect. Pickups are second to none, with a sweet, distinct, cool sound. Further, if you're a Johnny Marr fan, you own his guitar, and since 2012, when this model came out, it's all that Johnny plays. I've not played or owned a smoother guitar. It's like butter.
What it does not do: It isn't buzzless. There's a little hum that's more evident on my 68 Twin Reverb than my other amps. Not at all an issue for me, but there can be a little noise, similar to a Strat, so be ready for that. The pickups are not hot, they are cool. Keep this in mind. Out of the gate, it's tamer than my Tele with hot Seymour Duncans and my Gibson LP Studio with humbuckers. That said, it doesn't take much to make it growl with minor EQ adjustments. Just realize if you switch from playing a hot Tele/Strat or LP to this Jag from the same amp, your going to need to increase the volume a bit to get the Jag to play at the same level. That's not a bad thing. It's just different, in a very beautiful way. Also, on the first set up, to really get the most out of it, switch the strings from 9s to 11s.
Summary: It's a keeper and an heirloom. It has a fantastic sound that will cut through anything else in a very cool and distinctive way. It's very smooth, and extremely playable. If you want an alternative to a hot, crunchy, over-biting Gibson or Tele/Strat, then this is it. Tone-wise, it stands alone without comparison. Be a charming man; take a bow; you'll not be miserable now; your jokes will be funny again; get out of your coma.

Comments about Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar Electric Guitar:

This is a very cool instrument. As a long time Johnny Marr fan, I was very interested in this guitar right off the bat. If you have watched any video reviews on this guitar, there are really no surprises. I'm a long time Fender player, but this was my first short scale guitar. I thought it might take some getting used to, but it feels so comfortable and right. The neck profile is my favorite part of this guitar. I'm not such a fan of thin necks, and this one has the perfect amount of chunkiness. The pickups are really cool and so are the switching options. Now for my complaints (which for me don't out weigh the pros)... I have never owned a guitar with such small frets. For me this is the only thing that takes some getting used to. I understand that it is a personal preference thing, but for me it's a con. I can feel my fingertips drag across the rosewood which I don't like, and I feel like I'm going to need a refret in way less time than I normally would. The other thing I don't love is the bridge. I have had guitars with the jag style bridges before and they do have they're flaws, but this mustang bridge feels so wide. The E and e strings feel very close to the edge of the frets and will roll off if you aren't careful. I'm going to put a Mastery bridge on as soon as I can. All in all this guitar is very fun, comfortable, and sounds great. I would buy this again.

Comments about Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar Electric Guitar:

Normally most people, including me, don't give the Jaguar much attention, at least not as compared with Strats and Teles. There are reasons for that, when looking at the baseline Jag, but this Jag, which was very heavily customized by Johhny Marr, working together with Fender, is not your baseline Jag. In fact, this is simply a fantastic instrument.

This guitar has many virtues, from its smooth playability to its fantastic overall feel and simplicity. However, the most distinctive aspect from my perspective has been the cool tones from the custom Marr-designed pickups. The sound is fantastic -- great tones, distinctive from the Fender tones you are used to from Strats and Teles, with an emphasis on brighter tones. The custom 4-position pickup switch adds a humbucking position where the pickups are in series, for a warmer, deeper tone, as well, and there are two high pass treble/bright booster switches on the top horn that really let you manipulate the tone quite well. The pickups are "cool" as compared with the "hot" pickups normally found on Strats and Teles, which means you may need more volume to achieve the sound you want, but the tone variance and distinctiveness is well worth it, in my opinion.

Other advantages are the 24' scale length (common to all Jags), the nifty "stay put" trem, the slightly chunkier neck (feels great to play), and the vintage/classic look and feel. I have had no quality issues at all with my model, either, which is what you expect from a US-made Fender instrument.

Overall this is currently my favorite guitar for go-to playing, even more than my Strat. It's just a very thoughtfully designed, very playable, guitar with a distinctive tone that keeps me coming back to play it.
