I was surprised at how nice and bright the pickups were and they were not too hot either which was also a pleasant surprise.I am not a metal player at all, having picked this guitar up cause I wanted some humbuckers for some of the harder songs my band does.I was surprised when it did blues and clean sounds so well too.Bonus cause it's so easy to play.I normally play an american special strat with texas specials. There is no annoying noise at high gain setings.Nice.
Overall I really like this guitar, just wish it has a nicer body profile;more rounded off and not sharp.
Mine has a maple neck and board which probably helps with the brightness.I prefer bright guitars so this one is great for me.The volume rolls off smoothly and allows me to play with no pedals if I choose to.I do not have any use for slipnknot, but bow my head to talent in any genre.

I was happy with the tone and quality of the electronics, but the shoddy workmanship was unacceptable for an instrument of this price. I returned this guitar primarily because of the low quality fret dressing.
The features were as advertised-one volume, one tone, and a selector switch. The EMG pickups delivered a tight, articulate low end as expected because I have an ESP with similar wood and pickup configuration. The neck was thicker than I expected. It had the feel of a Strat that I owned in the mid 80's. The description in MF read that it came with a black tweed case with red plush interior, but it arrived with a tolex case. The discrepancy was not a serious issue, but I felt a little disappointed.
The volume pot had a continuous taper from silent to loud-the first one I have seen, despite owning Gibsons, Fenders, and ESPs. The controls had some resistance and seemed to be of good quality.

The finish, satin black, looked fragile and thin. Perhaps, it was supposed to look that way, but I didn't find it attractive.

The clincher for an immediate return was the fret job. All the frets on the treble side of the neck protruded from the neck. They felt ragged, sharp, and uncomfortable. I felt that the workmanship on this guitar was unacceptable for an instrument in this price range. If this instrument passed Fender's quality control, then Fender is in trouble. I have a MIC Squire that has much better workmanship than this USA instrument.
The low rating is based on shoddy workmanship.

Comments about Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great, one of the best I've ever played. Although when I first received it I discovered chips and cracks on the body of the guitar. The finish was severely cracked near the neck. Musicians Friend was very quick in getting another one shipped out to me but I feel like I should have received some kind of reimbursement for the inconvenience. But again, the guitar is amazing.

What a strat.

Comments about Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've known for a while, ive wanted this guitar. But I was more than blown away by it when i received it. Its the most versatile guitar ive ever played. Its super sleek but still has a huge sound to it. The emg's are amazing with it. You can almost basically any tone you want. I was a bit worried about this guitar on a clean setting, but still sounds crisp and clear. I love the matte paint job as well. Some people might see it as a flaw, but I think its pretty cool. Definitely worth a look at if you want a awesome sounding stratocaster with no twang. So this guitar is worth the money and definitely gets 5 stars.

Comments about Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

So I have had this guitar for two years now, and while it is a fantastic guitar for the rock/ hard rock/ metal thing, it is not very useful for anything else. The craftsmanship is great, it is American, not Mexican, mine in particular is lightweight. If you try to keep you guitars pristine then do not get this guitar. The finish is very thin, and is prone to chipping fairly easily, which doesn't bother me, but if things like that bother you then look elsewhere. The EMG's are EMG's that's the tone that you'll get. The ebony fretboard is smooth and consistently black, and the action can be set quite low. Overall it is a very solid guitar, but if you want versatility look for a different guitar, but if you want a guitar with all these specs, just some different pickups then get some different pickups. The neck is not a thin as maybe people think, just a modern C so its thin enough for comfort and speed, but thick enough so it feels like their something there. But worth the cash.

Comments about Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

First let me say I am NOT a Slipknot or Stone Sour fan. That said this is an absolutely incredible guitar. It has everything I would want from a Strat for Rock or Metal music. The neck is just perfect. Great tone, feel, stays in tune. Wow. I bought it used with the intention of making money on it, but I am NOT parting with this one. Buy it, even at the discounted price it is an incredible guitar for the money.

Comments about Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

this guitar, to me, is amazing. a mahogany body, string through, locking tuners, and a compound radius neck, with the fender 25.5 scale length, which facilitates downtuning better than, say, a 24.75 gibson scale. this guitar will do almost any musical style, but excels at hard rock/hardcore/hard rock thanks to its active emg humbuckers.i may modify, and drop a set of emg 81tw humbuckers in it, so i can cop single coil tones as well.personally, that is the only "con" for me, BUT lets remember that its an option, not a neccesity, and for an obvious reason, not included inthe design. bottom line, designed primarily for harder styles, but can be adjusted (different pickups) to getyou in almost any ballpark. i am a jim root fan, but didnt purchase the guitar for this reason. every now and again, a signature product comes along, ad is exactly what some players would like, or already do. this is me. i will buy the telecaster next to go with my orange halfstack.

        A Strat Bargain

        By Dan Meester

        from Colorado

Comments about Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

        This is worth the money.
This is what a Les Paul should be: well balanced, jumbo fretted, smoooooth finger board. My constant complaint about Strats has never changed- too many controls that get in the way of strumming. This guitar addresses all of that with a single control: volume. The pickup gain is a monster. When I play with someone using a standard Strat I use a volume level of 5 to their 10. This guitar plays beautifully. Exceptional sustain, very light touch on the frets.
Solid build. My only complaint is the pick guard: since it's black it shows every scratch.
You can easily spend more on a lesser Strat. Bound to be collectible.
