I had the option to select between this amp (Hot Rod Deluxe III) and the previous model (Hot Rod Deluxe II). Honestly the differences are bigger than you think. It isn't only the black cover and the Celestion Speaker. Most notable differences: *The 2nd model gives you a much better overdrive! ..and more gain. In this model (III) you have to increase the overdrive volume up to 5 or 6 to get the same volume of clean channel, it being on 2 or 3. *The celestion speaker of this new model you get a better clean sound and better bass equalization than the last model. This helps you to don't get a bass saturation. My recomendation: If you want this amp to play clean sounds and/or use overdrive pedals, Buy it!!! But if you are looking for the amp overdrive, try to buy the last model!

Comments about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I never write reviews for anything, but I've never been more bummed about something I bought. I've owned this amp for almost two years, and already it's falling apart. Fender wont do anything about it since I played out with it one time. From the beginning the reverb gave a high pitch feedback ring, the clean channel no longer works at all anymore. The tone sounds like total butt now anyway you turn the knobs. I also had to replace a power tube within the first six months of owning it. A huge let down from a company I've supported for a long time. I SHOULD HAVE LISTEN TO THE SALES REP AT GUITAR CENTER AND WENT WITH THE VOX AC 30. This thing is so frustrating, I play way less guitar now because it.

Comments about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Next to my Twin Reverb, this sounds similar, and lighter. Loud enough to gig with and takes overdrive pedals well. Turn it into a Marshall with the right overdrive. Play country with the right overdrive, or just crank it and play the blues.

Comments about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Purchased a HRD III from Nashua NH after looking at a lot of combo tube amps Amp has plenty of power and clean and overdrive options. The footswitch did not work out of the box, but they replaced it with no issues. In general very happy with the amp, but still breaking it in. The skin on the back panel was a pulling away where it wraps around the cut outs so I had to adhere it back on. Overall, very happy.

Comments about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased my HRD in June of 2012 and it was a wonderful sounding amp until recently. I thought it was going through power tubes every 2 to 3 gigs. Now I'm convinced it's not them. I usually run the amp at a volume of 4 to 4.5. My last gig I had to run it at 8 just to be heard and it was completely distorted...even on the clean channel. I since have heard that these amps have problems when they heat up and solder points come loose and the caps they use are of low quality. I'm very disappointed in this amp. It was love at first, but now heart broken. Buy one if you like, but remember me if it starts acting up. :(

                A Great Amp!

                By Felix

                from Laurel

Comments about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this amp a couple months back because i had heard a lot of good things about it and got interested about it. Also i own the blues jr and liked it a lot but thought i needed an amp that was a little louder. Anyways so here are my feelings on this amp. First off the clean channel is terrific! Very bluesy, but warm and friendly. Not very harsh at all. It has a lot of headroom for pedals and can easily be shaped to achieve a vast variety of tones. On the overdrive channel you can get a good crunchy sound. Not excessively overdriven but enough that you can tell its there and will fit a lot of your needs. The second overdrive/boot channel is the overdrive that you think about. It doesn't sound as like an orange or marshall overdrive but it is good for power chords and other things. If you have a pedal with it then you can achieve that sound. Now for the things i think this amp could do better. First off the reverb sounds really fake and annoying. it just doesn't sound good at all! An easy upgrade could fix this though. Secondly on the crunch/overdrive channels there could be better bass response. Ive noticed that you can get a really good bass low end on the clean but when you change the channel you loose a little bit of it. Not sure why but thats how it is. So in conclusion if you were to ask me if you should get this amp then i would definitely say yes (unless you play hard rock or metal). Just know that this amp is 40 watts and can get really loud. But honestly its manageable for the quality of sound that comes out of it. Also if you find it too loud you can always get an attenuator. Overall its a great amp and if you like that traditional fender sound then this amp won't let you down!

                Mixed Feelings

                By Kevin

                from Tinley Park, IL

Comments about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The clean channel on the Hot Rod III has great bottom end, but I've found the treble side to be a bit harsh on the ears. Fortunately I can remedy this with my pedals. I think the drive channel sounds horrible. It's very thin sounding, and it shares tone controls with the clean channel, so even if I found one good tone setting, it would ruin my clean channel setting, so this wouldn't work in a live situation. But I'm mainly using this amp as a backup for my Fender Twin, so I'm used to just using pedals for overdrive and distortion. I also the think the knob arrangement is utterly stupid. But overall, for the price and the wattage and the fullness of the tone on the clean channel, I think I'll be keeping this amp as a backup for my twin.

                The Worst User Experence Ever!

                By Dino

                from Oregon

Comments about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I am having such a difficult time wrapping my head around the 5 star rating on this amp. I am on my second Hotrod III, having owned the original Made in USA model and the MIM model. Quite simply, this amp sounds horrible! I have been a Pro Level (Meaning when I play, teach and engineer I get paid!) musician with a 20 year long career. Point one, there is no clean channel on this amp, PERIOD! Fender is known for having pristine crystal clear pedal friendly amplifiers. Apparently the Hotrod III is none of those. This amp is breaking up on 2, but if it sounded nice that wouldn?t be so bad right? This sounds like a cross between a Mosquito stuck in a paper bag and newspapers being crunched up to be discarded in a garbage can. It is a horrible unbalanced Tone that is completely useless for any application from Country to Hardcore. Thus, the amplifier is completely useless on one channel. I would strongly discourage anyone from purchasing this amplifier from the website without playing one. Point two: While the second channel is nothing special the complete grit top end channel if just garbage. This is not the layman?s workhorse amp of the past, this amp is for kids who haven?t learned to play yet whom will discard it once they do. Fender has ruined a once great industry standard amplifier cherished by guitarists and made a lemon. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.
