Overview

The Fender George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe combo amp is fine-tuned for world-famous jazz guitar virtuoso and pop artist George Benson. It has the full bottom end characteristic of 6L6 tubes and a versatile all-tube preamp including a 12AT7 up front for cleaner tone; especially with humbucking pickups.

A 100W Jensen C12K speaker handles the immediacy of Benson's singing soloing style with clarity and range, and the solid-pine cab increases tonal resonance while reducing weight. Standard features include clean and "Drive/More Drive" channels, resounding Fender spring reverb, effects loop and more.

Personalized exterior touches specified by Benson himself include gray-black vinyl covering, silver-strand grille cloth and "GB" logo badge. Road-worthy deluxe padded cover and two-button footswitch included. Separate matching 1x12" extension enclosure adds output, fullness and stage coverage.

The GB Logo design is a trademark of Hoshino Gakki Co., Ltd., with which FMIC is not affiliated.

Perfect for working musicians

Comments about Fender George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I'm not much of a gear head, but I have ears, and I trust them. This is not only a wonderful jazz amp that has a clean, organic, and responsive sound with tons of clean head room, I believe it's a great clean platform in which to manipulate the tone how ever you would like using pedals and effects. Even before the speaker was well broke-in, the sound was well balanced and even; there were no harsh highs or boomy lows. I use a Gibson ES-333. While I play a lot of jazz, I also have to play what pays the bills and this amp has been great for everything so far. The Reverb series amps' tone were too sparkly and glassy for my taste, and Princeton amps don't have enough head room and the 65' is too glassy as well. While this is about the most, weight-wise, that I'm willing to haul around, I believe it's worth the investment if you're playing anything from small to larger venues.

It's not just for jazz anymore

Comments about Fender George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have been playing this amp for about a year now and I could not be happier. I am not real hard on my amps, but even if I were I am very confident that this work horse would hold up just fine. I am currently using it as my clean channel in a two amp set up alongside a Vox AC15. The GB Deluxe is warm, clear, articulate, and sonically perfect for my jazz and light rock stuff. I am mainly using a Gibson Midtown Kalamazoo and the clean tones are perfect. Right out of the box, the tone was just a little harsh, but after about 4 hours of playing the speaker started breaking in and tone mellowed immensely. I cannot rate this amp highly enough. For the money, and if you want the pinnacle in warm, clean, clear tube amps, this is the amp for you.

A Great Idea

Comments about Fender George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is hard to beat for a gigging jazz player. Smaller amps sometimes don't give enough head room, while anything bigger is too much to lug around. If you can find this at a price that is less expensive than switching out the speaker and tubes on a normal deluxe to match the Benson specs, then it's well worth it, because the Benson model comes with a more resonant cabinet wood which is also slightly lighter to carry. Deluxes have built a good reputation as being the work horses of gigging rock players, and if the Benson lives up to their reliability, then it's a perfect amp.

Poor Quality Control (Come on Fender you can do better with the QC)

By Hollis Sanders

from ATL, GA

Comments about Fender George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe 40W Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Picked up my Fender George Benson Amp this past Friday. The box that it was in looked very beat up. Open the box and removed the amp. First thing I noticed was how light the amp was from other HD that I owned. The amp was beautiful. Plug the power cable in to the socket and let it warm up for a moment, while I get my gb10 out the case. Plug my guitar in to the amp and hit the stand by switch, did a couple of licks while adjusting the tone on the amp, the sound was pretty warm and sweet. Then I played an A7 chord on the six string and there it was, If you ever blown a speaker, then you know the sound I'm talking about. I could not believe I was sent a brand new amp with a blown speaker. Let me check to see if it was just loose from shipping or something. No, it wasn't lose but every screw on the amp was. I'm highly disappointed in Fender. I took it back to GC and ordered a new one, hopefully I will have better luck. But I feel that amp left the factory defected.
