Well, I've had this bass twice now. The first one was made in Japan. I stopped playing and sold it. Big mistake. I just bought another one and it's made in Mexico. Both are equal, no difference. Both are amazing. I have had USA made Precision basses and Jazz basses, which I can't really say anything bad about, but this Geddy Lee bass is just better, hands down. It's simply a nice classy instrument. Better finish, better neck, better everything. I don't care where it's made, this is a truly perfect bass. It plays so well it's hard to even describe. It's classy looking with the block inlays and neck binding. It is without a doubt the best bass I've ever had or ever played. I got black this time and put a black pick guard on it. It's just awesome looking all black with that maple neck and block inlays. The first one I had was sunburst and it was sharp looking too. Way better than the picture here shows it to be. Bottom line, if you love the jazz bass, this one is definitely the one to get, and a step above the best USA ones. It's the neck! It absolutely plays perfect, straight, solid and fast, great low action and zero fret buzz. Everything else is top quality as well. The finish is flawless. And of course it sounds great. You sure don't have to be a fan of Rush either. It fits any playing style and music type. I guarantee you will not regret buying it. If you are a serious bass player you will see what I mean instantly. If you're a novice, well you will start out with the best bass you'll ever own.

I played a Japan-built Geddy Lee for several years. Great build quality and electronics. Picked up a MIM yesterday in the store and could not believe the difference in quality. Finish, craftsmanship, and electronics are poor when compared to the CIJ. It was similar to the Squier VM Jazz Bass, which is a good quality instrument, but not on a par with the original bass. Maybe Fender should lower their price or take Geddy's name off this bass. Of course, it's possible I picked up a bad one.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

This bass is awesome. I'm a professional golfer by trade so I know good equipment makes a huge difference. I bought a Squire Modified Vintage 70's bass a couple years ago trying to save a few bucks. Although that's a great bass, I should have gotten this then. I haven't been able to put it down. The feel is great and I love the sound. I play with a sans amp tech 21 bass preamp and get so many different sounds it's unbelievable. Straight to my amp is fine too. It was pretty much ready to go out of the box. A minor truss adjustment to get the action the way I like it and it was all good. My golf is going to suffer, because playing this is more fun at the moment. It's a shame you can only give 5 stars, I would give it more

Very happy, comes set up with low action. Has a great tone and very loud fora passive bass. Happy to add it to my collection. Played out with it many times now, no problems. Installed a Hipshot D tuner on it recently.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

I've wanted one of these for YEARS and kept putting it off and buying other basses instead. But recently, I finally broke down and bought one on Black Friday, and I have to say that I love this bass. What I can't get over is just the feel of it alone. It needed a set up (intonation was whacked) right out of the box, but it still felt incredible. Fingers slide over the neck like butter! The tone is a warm, classic Fender Jazz tone. Not much variation as I have only found one dialed-in setting that sounds best, but Fenders are for purists anyhow. I'm sure Geddy doesn't spend much time messing with tone knobs on his Fenders, after all these years. You discover what you like and you keep it dialed into that. Anyhow, the mids and highs on this mesh very well with the warmth of the lows. Very well-crafted instrument.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

I've ran through three Geddy Lees (All CIJ, all in black) before I finally settled on my fourth and final one. It just felt perfect. Bought it used for half the retail value; it was disgusting at first; owner was careless about the bass. I took it home and spent hours and hours cleaning the entire bass. I scrubbed off the grime off the hardware parts, I removed the nasty stuff from the frets, I gave the neck a good scrub and conditioning with my guitar cleaning kit, I resoldered the poorly-soldered connections on the electronics... I devoted half a day fixing this bass and that's the reason why I'm keeping it forever. Apart from the killer sound from the vintage pickups and the VVT they are controlled by, this bass is my number one because I invested so much into it. Killer bass. I didn't get it just because it was Geddy Lee's signature model; I got it because I love the sound and tone of the real 1972 Jazz Basses and this is the closest I'll get to ever achieving that 1972 jazz tone.

Neck is a bit too skinny for me; the new MIM models come with a slightly chunkier neck that feels the same as their regular Mexican standard models which I think are the best. I can live with it though. The black block inlays and binding are just sexy to me; it's so eye-catching! People at my church actually thought I owned a real '72! XD Unfortunately I had to tell them that it was just a Geddy Lee signature...they were still impressed at the tone and sound of the bass.

I used to have Custom Shop 60s pickups in them, but I sold the pickups for a set of Pure Vintage 1974 pickups used in Fender's American Vintage Reissue 1974 Jazz Basses. The stock ones still sound amazing and I may keep them for a secondary Jazz Bass if I ever need it.

I love everything about this bass. It's really hard to pinpoint a flaw of the bass; the skinny neck is a like-it-or-hate-it. String on some Rotosound Swing 66s and you're good to go!

I'd buy the sunburst one if I can find one. Someday....someday...

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

I just bought one of these in 3-tone sunburst. Right out of the box it was flawless. I ran through the setup and intonation and it was as good as it gets. Pickup height was perfect. Frets great. I've got an American Standard and an American Deluxe jazz that didn't come as well set up. This neck is one of the best necks around. I wish the American Standard and Deluxe jazz basses had this neck. The only draw back to this bass is that 60 cycle hum. It's not too bad on this one and I have had worse but it's all part of that sound and if you're careful setting your tones you can eliminate most of it. I had one of these and sold it a few years ago. I have always regretted that. This one I will not part with. Excellent bass! Just beautiful!

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

I had been shopping for something new and was looking into the new Dimension HH. Non were at my store , but on the way out I asked if they had a Geddy bass. We had met over 40 years ago while I assisted Terry Brown on their first album in Toronto. The store was closing for the day, but the salesman handed me the bass. Well, that bass found me instead of me finding it. Perhaps because we both started out with the old original Toronto sound we think the same way about necks. I once in the late 60's also played a Ricky too as he eventually did early. Geddy got this axe right. No question in 50 years of pro playing it is the best Fender i have ever played and owned. It blew me away. I know all about the early Fenders because I was there and played them all. This bass kills anything they ever made prior. Thanks Geddy. You really got it really right. I challenge anyone to find a better designed jazz bass. Oh ya thanks for the signature on the headstock. Too funny.
Every player must own one of these in the herd.

Just received it today, so far I'm impressed. The fit and finish are similar to my US models. It sounds great, bright and very strong pickups. The action is set very low and just picked it out of the box and was comfortable with it. I will play it out Sunday and see how it runs.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

After 30 years of using a cheap Peavey bass, it was time to get serious. I played a Jazz Bass in a music store and loved it. Then I heard great things about the Geddy Lee model. The praise is well deserved.

I bought a sunburst version, made in Mexico. It was poorly set up right out of the box, so I had to fiddle with it to get the action right. It took about a half-hour due to the truss rod screw being located at the heel of the neck, requiring me to remove the neck to make any adjustments. But I was able to set the action nice and low and even a year later, it still plays like a dream.

The bass has a nice variety of tones using the volume pots and tone pot, but I usually play with both volumes full on to cut through the guitarists!

But the neck is the thing. The normal Jazz taper is so lovely to play anyway, but with this Geddy Lee-style thinner neck it practically plays itself. It makes me sound a lot better than I actually am.
