I love this guitar!

By JENNIFER BERNALES

from Elmhurst, New York

Comments about Fender GC-140SCE Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

I'm still a novice but this is my second guitar. The first one that I bought was Takamine but I decided to sell it because I didn't like the way it feels when I play it. I bought this directly from Guitar Center. It was the very first guitar that I saw when I enter the door in the Acoustic section. When I tried to play it, I realized that this is the guitar that I was looking for. The neck is a bit narrow and the strings are closer to the neck, which makes it a bit easier and smoother to play compared to other guitars. I tried the other guitars at Guitar Center but I always come back to this one. It's good for beginners like me 'coz it takes awhile for my fingers too hurt compared to other guitars which takes only 5-10 mins. I can practice longer it this guitar. My friends love it too. They tried playing it and told me that they like the way it feels. It's lighter and it sounds good too.

If Only It Had a 1.75" Wide Nut

By Rob Darby

from Oakley, CA

Comments about Fender GC-140SCE Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

This IS an amazing little guitar. I played several different smaller-bodied guitars at a local GC, looking for one that sounded and felt right for fingerstyle playing, and the Fender Grand Concert 140SCE(which is the full designation for this model) was the one I had to buy. The solid spruce top and the smaller body design add up to very good clarity--especially for an instrument in this price range. I do wish they would have given it a 1.75" nut instead of the 1.69. It's a little narrow for fingerstyle, but having fairly skinny fingers, I have managed. The tone is better for fingerstyle than somewhat more expensive Alvarez and Breedlove guitars. The neck, while a bit narrow, has a thin back-to-front profile, which makes it more comfortable than the tree-trunks on some other models. You will likely have to adjust the action (or have a qualified tech do so), as it's not as player-ready as it could be upon purchase. Still, the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the nut width. If you're okay with 1.69, you won't be unhappy with this. I noticed the price has come down since I purchased. Jump on it!

Comments about Fender GC-140SCE Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

I bought this guitar to simply learn a couple of songs that i really wanted to play. I already knew how to play guitar and i wanted to get back into it. This guitar is really amazing! The picture online doesn't show the really nice glossy finish to it on the sides. The only thing about it was that sometimes the battery case won't make contact with the actual part that powers the guitar. However, once i actually got it after like 2 minutes, there has been no problems with it. Great guitar. I hope this review help. I suggest you play this and try it out before you buy it.

Comments about Fender GC-140SCE Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

I was looking at a higher priced model but decided to give this one a play and immediately set the other aside and went straight to the counter. I have three other acoustic electrics including a Breedlove and a quilted maple Ibanez. This has become my favorite. The sound is sweet plugged in or not. I was really impressed with the smooth neck and easy playability - the action is low like a hard body electric. I pick as much as I strum and this sounds great any way you want to play it. I have had it for over 6 months now and play it every day. The quality for the price is nothing short of fantastic. I highly recommend this one whether you are just beginning or want to do a little recording.

Comments about Fender GC-140SCE Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

Now done with dreadnaughts, I was looking for a smaller body with a cutaway for slide work. Having purchased several Gretsch products made in association with Fender, I felt the Fender QC and customer service were exceptional at any price. After auditioning every available cutaway under $2k in the GC showroom, the Fender was, IMO, particularly good at the price. My "4 star" rating is ONLY reflective of the fact this is a less expensive guitar to buy.

Sound quality is slightly midrange scooped (more Martin than Taylor), somewhat dark in the bass, not especially nuanced when held against the best and not loud but sweet and ringing with the OEM strings. Overall playability is quite good. Barre chords are not a problem at any fret. Thumb over chords and fingerstyle patterns are about average in playability. The neck is a comfortable fit for my medium sized hands and remains so up into the cutaway. Out of the box action was slightly high at the 12th fret but still intonated perfectly - ideal for slide. Now that the strings have settled in, it has held a tuning very well. For students, this Fender challenges Yamaha for quality control and sound though the Yamahas do have greater projection and more midrange "umph" than the Fender. For more accomplished players, this is a very decent, low cost secondary instrument. The OEM electronics are basic but useful for most purposes. At well under $500, Fender and their associated products are, IMO, consistently narrowing the selection process.

Comments about Fender GC-140SCE Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

Exactly what I was looking for. I've been playing guitar for a couple years now and have been wanting to get a smaller bodied acoustic for practicing. I found this and I am very pleased. I really enjoy the smaller neck being I have smaller hands. I'm not saying this is as nice as an expensive Gibson or Martin, but it is a great guitar for the money. Especially for someone like me who enjoys smaller bodied acoustics. Well done Fender.

Comments about Fender GC-140SCE Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar:

This is a beautiful guitar. The build quality is exceptional for a guitar at this price point. It plays very easily and is very comfortable. The only drawback for my and why I didn't rate this five stars, was because to me, it sounds somewhat weak and tinny....lacking low-end. I'm not at all impressed with the electronics. They work, but don't sound great. The tuner is nice though. I performed a much-needed setup shortly after receiving this guitar. It plays like butter now. Overall, it's a great go-to guitar for practicing, has a very nice feel and is very easy to play. If you're not expecting the full sound that a lot more expensive guitar could offer, you won't be disappointed.

Bought this for my teenage daughter. It is a great size for a young woman. It has surprisingly full sound for a little guitar. So far is it playing consistently and staying in tune. (The built in tuner is nice for a beginner.) Great guitar for the price.
