Overview

Learning to play guitar can be hard, but the Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center makes it easy and fun. As simple to learn as a new video game, the G-DEC has lots to offer for brand-newbies, guit-athletes, and songwriter-types alike. You can quickly plug in and solo over backing tracks and practice with a full-band arrangement to develop your chops in nearly any style.

At the heart of the G-DEC is a 15W amp and 8" speaker combo with the familiar Fender look and feel. But that's just for starters. This one-of-a-kind combo adds a digital LCD screen; lots of guitar tones; selectable drum beats, bass lines, and other instruments; reverb, echo, and other effects; a tuner; a phrase sampler with line in and slow down; an internal synth with MIDI; and a shoulder strap for easy transport. So you've got the ultimate practice partner, rhythm section, and song-inspiration platform all wrapped up in an easy-to-use combo amp.

The G-DEC is loaded with 50 Performance Presets that each include a drum loop, bass line, guitar amp tone, and effects. There are 50 user presets, tons of guitar tones, drum loops, a metronome, and backing tracks in nearly every style so you can build your own backing tracks. You can edit, move around, and store all the Performance Presets. Each preset includes a guitar tone (built from the following ingredients: Amp Type, EQ, Compressor, Timbre, Noise Gate, and Effects) and a drum/backing loop including rhythm instruments.

70 drum/backing loops and a metronome are included so with the G-DEC you've got a drummer on tap anytime you want one. There are loops for Rock, Pop, Metal, Funk, Punk, Jazz, Country, Blues, Latin -- pretty much any style you would want to play guitar over.

The amp settings are: Tweed (1-3), Blackface (1-3), Dynatouch (1-4), British (1-3), Modern (1-3), and Acoustic.

There are standard tone controls such as Gain, Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble, Noise Gate, and Compressor, as well as special Timbre settings like Full Body, Full Stack, Razor's Edge, Bright Lite, Bass Boost, Nu Metal, Super Brite, and Acoustic.

The effects menu includes mono delay, tape delay, stereo tape delay, ducking delay, reverse delay, autopan delay, sine chorus, triangle chorus, sine flange, triangle flange, phaser, tremolo, pitch shift, touch wah, fixed wah, Vibratone, Autoswell, Alienator, Resolver, fuzz, overdrive, and effective combinations like touch wah/fuzz, ring modulation/delay, fuzz/delay, overdrive/delay, chorus/delay, flange/delay, phaser/delay, and Alienator/delay. There also is an effects level control. Reverb selections include Ambient, Small Room, Large Room, Small Hall, Large Hall, Arena, Small Plate, Large Plate, Spring, and '63 Spring.

All of the effects available with the Fender G-DEC have parameters that can be adjusted, so there are an infinite number of possible guitar sounds.

I got this amp when i was a beginner and thought it was awesome until i started to learn lead and play rythym with friends. the reverb is terrible and it is so hard to get your own sound out of it because instead of channels it has pre-sets. if you are a beginner this is a good amp for you but don't expect to want to keep it for too long. the only reason i can think of for a beginner not to like this amp is its major FEEDBACK.

Decent amp, worth the money.

By John

from Chesapeake Beach, MD

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

I've had this amp for about a year now. When I first received it, it blew me away how many effects there were on it. I spent hours messing around with the presets. It really is strictly an amp for practice, don't buy it expecting to go jam with your band because this amp does not cut it. Being such, its hard to get a good clean tone out of it, but definitely a great amp all the same.

too much time spent setting amp poor instuructions

By Anonymous

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

First of all the instructions assume you already know how to use this overly technical amp. You spend too much time trying to get the right setting and it could use some preset positions for your fav. settings. lack of good country music settings and too many wierd settings. as a practice amp. it is not too bad if you don't mind bending over double looking for the right setting for what seems like an eternity. sound is not real clear. Fender does not go into any detail on al the ends and outs on how to use this amp. I called Fender regarding this amp and they informed me that they assumed the consumer knows how to use this amp from the get go. We all know what happens when you assume!

Awesome First Impression

By Ibanezisthebest66

from Wisconsin

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

The first time I used this amp I thought wow this is awesome it has all kinds of effects, but it just doesn't have a clean rock sound at all. I keep hearing from more and more people that this amp sucks, but than some of my friends and I think that this is one of the best amps because of all the effects. I guess I have come to the conclusion that this amp is just made for practice and you really shouldn't use it in a band, because you don't get a very clean sound.

Love Hate Relationship

By Ratrod

from Prarie Village KS

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

Fender G-DEC was my first amp and I loved it, the built in drums are great to play with and teach you rhythm and the built in tuner is great.... however all the effects are a little weak sounding and there is no clean channel, after a year the volume is going from soft to loud by itself. I played a normal amp for the first time for me to make the switch. It is what it says it is a ENTERTAINMENT CENTER!

G-DEC is a great amp for practice

By music fan\,Gridley

from CA"

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

I own this amp and the array of features and effects on it are amazing. You can get a very heavy or very light sound for an electric guitar. And you can also use an acoustic as the amp also has great acoustic options. It's also very easy to solo over the music that the amp comes with. You can set very precise speeds and and any key you can think of. This amp is great for the price I think it's a must buy.

A bit over the top

By Dont Ask Please

from Mission Viejo, CA

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

I got this a while back and was overwhelmed at first by the enormous amount of parameters you can change. It was fun for a while but later I found that no matter how much you change it its always just fuzzy and distorted. The lack of a good clean rock channel is a total downer.Either its so distorted you cant tell the difference between any notes and a song turns into a glob of sound or you play on the clean and it sounds just like an acoustic guitar. Theres no middle zone thats clear enough to detect different tones and rock enough to shred on.

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

when i first got this i thought it was the best. but sense ive been jaming with my buddies this thing has the worst distortions and there is not a single clean channel on this thing. i have this for about 6 monthes and the volume regulater is started to go out its not a constant volume it will jump from like quite medium and loud its quite anoying if u want to keep it quite at night time and al the sudden it jumps to loud. its not worth the money if i could get my 269 bucks back i woulda bought a diffrent amp.

Fun but too many gimmicks?

By Justanaverageplayer

from San Francisco

Comments about Fender G-DEC Guitar Digital Entertainment Center:

I enjoyed this amp at first it has a huge variety of modes to play with. However, I find the lack of clean tones frustrating. If you want lots of effects cheaply then this is great and the drum machine/bass is fun to play along with. But if you want clean tones and depth, you will have to buy another amp to do it. Overall the tone is thin, but it is a small amp....no wonder they brought out the G-Dec 30.
