I have purchased this amp about 6 months ago. This amp is a very simple one as far as its features are concerned. It is very easy & quick to shape your desired sounds. The best feature which really impressed me about this amp is the special designed speakers with large voice coil cones which is definitely a plus point for this amp for producing powerful, punchy, warm and well balanced overall sound. The sound breaks up nicely from these speakers. The clean channel is loud and clear but I still wishes that it should have a Presence control for more penetrating bright sound. On the other hand the overdrive channel is great for any kind of music. Personally I like the Drive channel sound more than the More drive channel for Bluesy and rock type of music. The More drive channel is somewhat noisey but it has got bundle of sustain. In my opinion if you want to further enhance the overall sound of this amp then try to connect a 7-Band graphic equalizer and a compressor with it and keep it ON all the time. I also keep the Mid-contour switch activated all the time as it gives pleasant Beefy touch to my sound. The reverb is satisfactory and I do not use it beyond 5 because it becomes unnatural and starts to sound too much metallic. One more thing I have noticed that if you use the effect loop the overdrive channels really improves remarkably and here what I think its overdrive Touch-senstive feature also seems to work more effectively but there is a slight decrease in the overall volume level but it is not a big issue. I have used this amp with both single coil & humbucker pickup guitars and I found it quite good. I did not like the Power ON/OFF switch located at its rear panel and also do not like the cheap speakers logos which do not look like professional ones (Now recently these logos have been replaced with real sober looking ones). Nevertheless this is a worthful & impressive amp by keeping in view of its overall quality & price tag.

I bought this amp several months ago after being impressed by the sound it produced at my local center. It has that great well renown Fender clean sound. We play 3 nights a week and for the first 3 months of steady playing, it sounded great. Many people complemented the tone. The clean channel is totally awesome. I don't use the OD channels much, instead I use my individual pedals to get that extra effects I like. After 3 months or so, I ready getting ready to go on live, turned it on and before hooking up my guitar a very loud, roaring sound came out of it. Long story short the power unit burned out. I replaced the unit with a Fender Delux model and it has helded up quite well. I would have stayed with this great sounding amp but I didn't have enough confidence in it durability. I would still recommend this amp to anyone for the great tone it puts out. For the price it is worth taking the chance. I may have received a lemon who knows.

Amazing!

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased this amp a few days ago, and tried it out immediately once I got home. I was thoroughly impressed! The clean channel is nothing short of amazing! The Overdrive channel is somewhat weak, but can still be used for playing some older Rock, like Aerosmith. When I play metal, I just have to hook up my Boss ME-20 and the sound is unbelievable! I would definitely recommend this for an intermediate player such as I looking for their first large amp. The 100 watts is just... WOW! I couldn't put it past two without my parents yeling at me! Seriously, I recommend this.

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

i bought this amp a few days ago and i couldnt be happier with it. i specifically bought this amp to get that clean fender tone without having to spend the huge bucks on a tube amp. i was very surprised when i hit the drive and drive/more drive swtiches and heard the sick overdrive tones you can get out of this thing. seriously anything from blues to metal. great amp for the price. buy it.

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is a workhorse. If you're looking for an amp that has lots of power, a great sound (clean or dirty) and a great price the Fender Frontman fm212 is the amp for you. I used to play thru a Behringer 2x12 which was 2x60 watts. It was a good amp and I hated to sell it but when my Fender Frontman was delivered I was blown away! My old Behringer was loud but it was very muddy and it was all digital so there was a delay when you switched channels so I didn't even use the amps distortion (I just used a MXR distortion plus peddle). My first band practice with the Frontman I couldn't even turn it up past 3. The drive/more drive channel is excellent! I don't even use my distortion pedals anymore. The Fender Frontman does more than keep up with the Marshall halfstack my lead guitar player uses. This is a great amp at an even better price.

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I highly recommend you buy this amp. It is a simple, easy to use, and clean. Yes LOUD and clean. This amp is so loud I can't bare to turn the volume up past three. I bought this amp looking for a clean sound that I could test my Boss effect pedals to the limit. If you put a pedal through this beast you can hear it loud and clear. Thats the best thing about this amp. It is loud, clear, and clean for people who play rock, folk, jazz, blues, country and metal. This is a great amp to play gigs with but in the end makes a good addition to you musical experience.

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

My mom and dad got me the fender frontman 212r for my 14th birthday. It was my first good amp.I tried it out in my room and it about blew the roof off!! I quick had to turn it off 3! The clean on it is crystal clear, the distortion is pretty good[not exactly metalish, but good classic rock.I bought a metal zone to add to it. Over all this fender is a pretty good all around amp.

Amazing Amp!!!

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp delivers on everything. It puts out sparkling cleans and can produce dark growling tones for alternative 'Smashing Pumpkins'- like rock. as for metal... i use a boss od pedal and a metal zone as well. thats only if you want a real extreme metal sound though... the effects are great as the amp does not go overboard with them. as mentioned in an earlier review a presence knob would be appreciated. besides that though. this amp is everything all other solid-state amps try to be. loud and in- charge.

An All-Around Great Amp

By AndyG

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp a while ago and hasn't stopped pleasing me since. I love this amp. Its a very basic amp. No effects, two overdrives, and its really...really loud. This is a perfect amp. It doesn't, however, have a speaker in/out so live performance is tough if you want to use multiple amps.

I'm loving this Amp!!

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I have only had this amp for 3 months but I am really enjoying playing through it. The clean channel is crystal clean, sweet highs and deep lows. The drive channels are mean! Using this amp, I have no need for my distortion petal. Before I purchase the Frontman, I did a lot of research on the different amps available. Comparing price, wattage, controls and tone, this was definately the best amp. I am completely satisfied with my choice.

Pretty good for a solid state amp!

By E York

from Ohio

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I fell in love with the tone of a Fender Deville 2x12 and wanted a practice amp to reduce wear and tear on the deville. I couldn't be happier for the price. Keep in mind that the deville is aproximately 3 times the coset of this amp. The tone is pretty close (well...for a solid state). While it doesn't compare to tubes it does sound remarkabl good for what it is. Firswt the pros: 1) real Fender spring reverb! You just can't beat that. 2) It uses the same "special design" speakers as the deville and other Fender tube amps (or so the sticker on the speaker would have us believe). 3) Tone over all is suprisingly good. Thiner than the tube amps but really good for the solid state series. Cons: 1) Yes...the volume needs to be pushed harder to attain the same level as the tube amp counterparts. This goes without saying though as this is the case with all SS... 2) Yes...the volume curve is sensitive. If I understand it correctly the pot is on an exponential curve (same as the tube amps-or at least the Deville) but it is more noticeable as the solid state pushes more amps...so...it doesn't get loud as soon as the tube amp but then eventually jumps up in volume). It's not a big problem actually. If it is for practioce, then...whatever. If it is for a gig then turn it away from you 2 degrees or so, or turn it backwards and use the monitor. Honestly, I anm very happy with this amp as a practice amp. If it was my main amp...hmmm. well, it is better than my line 6 (even though it doesn't have built in effects) for tone. Bottom line: if you have a bunch of pedals you like.. this will do well for you. If you don't haven pedals t6his won't do it but, honestly..great amp for amateur up to weekend pro...No worries. I think this amp might fall short if you are doing any "hired gun" work or "studio musician" work. But, if you are doing cover work, garage, start up band, high school or anything short of pro work this should get it.

212Rs hooked up together

By Mike Kelly

from Omaha, NE

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Hey Frontman 212R Fans! I bought my first 212R a couple of years ago. After realizing the potential of the 212R, I decided to buy my second. Just try running a cable from the PreOut on the main amp, to the PwrIn on the second amp. All power and speakers are controlled by the 100wt main amp. The amps can be stacked in tight quarters, or, separated for an "almost stereo" effect. Keyboards and hollow body guitars sound awesome through the clean channel. I play Classic Rock & Roll, and the Drive/More Drive functions on the 212R are everything I need, but if you're into heavy metal, pedals are a great option with this amp. Best buy for the buck! Try two! TWICE THE SOUND!

AMAZED

By Dillon

from DFW, TX

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

As a player and teacher I play a vast and widely differing variety of music. I normally use modeling amps to achieve the different tones and sounds that I need for the gig, but recently wanted to start using less amps and more pedals as a back-pain alleviation tool. So I took my Flextone II, and my Cybertwin SE, and traded them for a FloorPOD and this amp. At first I was really skeptical, but after sitting down at my local GC and playing for about 30 seconds, all my fears had subsided. THIS AMP IS AMAZING!!!!!!! The clean channel is just that, CLEAN. The drive channel, adds just drive. If I want to add a little bit of this or a little bit of that, I don't have to worry about pushing the wrong button, or spinning the wrong knob. The on-board distortion is great for and the option of a "more drive" is even better. I would recommend this to all of my students who are stepping into the intermediate range. Add a great multi-effects pedal like the FloorPod or one of the Digitech models, and you have just built the rig to get you to stardom!!!!!!!

Perfect

By Derek

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I would consider this the best tube amp alternative. Don't listen to these metal heads who say its no good. No, the distortion on this amp is not designed for metal, but its perfect if you have that classic style of playing like me and enjoy the rich blues tone, and the 60-70's and even 80's tone of a guitar sound. I bought mine the other day and it sounded better than the Fender XD champ tube amp. this amp on clean is a SWEET deal. I play through a 2001 American Strat, and it sounds great. I would definately recommend it! you can't beat it for the price. and on just level 2 this thing is CRANKING!

Very Impressed!!!

By Jay Koncar

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

When I went to Guitar Center to get an amp I first bought a used Line 6 Flextone. After a week i decided it was too complicated for me to use just as a practice. I went and traded that amp for this one. I could not have been more satisfied. This amp has amazing sounding clean and real spring reverb. And enough drive to make Slipknot say WOW. The 100 watts are enough for me to play the small gigs that my band always does. The only thing negative thing that is able to be said about this amp is the volume on the clean channel is very touchy. Either you cant hear it or it is too loud. But i guess thats what the volume knob on the guitar is for. Great Amp!!!!

Not Happy at all!!!

By Ryan

from Perris, CA

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Went through 2 units in 3 days. THe 1st one was a floor model because that was their last one, upon inspection seemed a little beat but the salesman gave me 10% off so that was ok. Got it home and on a low open E, had annoying buzz from left speaker. Upon removal of speaker found something physically loose inside coil area of speaker! Oh yeah, the pedal didnt work as well. Brought it back to GC and they were cool, set me up with a new in box unit and still kept the 10% off but when i brought this one home, input 1 was jacked up, the cable had to be jammed in to get it to go all the way in! Input 2 was ok. The sound on it is great clean but when distorting it isnt all that. To note, my bros Strat sounded better on this amp then My Ibanez RG, so it still might be a good amp for a Fender player but the Quality Control on this made in China series is horrific. Now I Exchanged it for a Line 6 Spyder IV 120 and couldnt be happier!

Another great Fender product

By Shufordsc

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

What more can I say about this amp that has not already been said...this an outstanding amp in every respect, especially for the price. The clean channel is classic Fender... clean, sparkling, vintage. The drive/overdrive channel is perfect for the harder edged rock and metal sounds. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is this thing is almost TOO loud for the average room in a house. The extra volume would be great for a studio or small gig, but in a normal sized room if you turn the volume past about 2 or 3 with much gain on the drive/more drive channel, it will flat BLAST you out of your chair!!! This is just a GREAT amp, and another fine quality product the bears the Fender name.

Pretty sweet amp. the clean channel is beast it dosnt sparkle or glimmer it gives a good clean tone that is great when just picking around. and when strumming a full chord it dont sound like the devils note. Havnt used drive much but its there in case your wondering. More Drive is amazing. im gonna get a line 6 pedal board because i love the INSANE setting. But this distortion will sufice till then. The reverb is great. Oh yeah and its FREAKIN LOUD. I run in to the problem of feed back cause i have to turn it up to hear me over my drummer but if u mic it to a bigger speaker u will be ready for for anything. Buy this product its cheap and is top of the line. Very simple and it has a channel switch. cant go wrong
