Overview

The Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups has tonal versatility and looks that make it welcome in any venue at a price that makes it a real Tele value. Mahogany body and set mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard and 6-saddle string-thru-body hardtail bridge provide great resonance and longer sustain. Cast sealed tuning machines keep tuning spot-on while stunning transparent finishes let the brilliance of the maple figuring shine through. High-output tones are produced by EMG 81 and 85 humbucker pickups.

EMG-85
Although the EMG-85 pickup has more measurable output than the 81, its frequency response and string interface are different. The 85 uses two Alnico magnet-loaded coils with a wide aperture to maintain a beefy low end and a fatter top end. Because of a more natural tone, it works great as a rhythm and blues pickup because it has loads of output but isn't muddy. It's a perfect choice as a rhythm pickup in combination with an 81 in the bridge.

The midrange has great definition and doesn't get foggy or muddy in the rhythm position. The EMG-85 works best if you like the natural distortion that comes from overdriving the front end of your amp. Under any condition, the humbucker responds accurately to your technique.

EMG-81
The EMG-81 pickup is a high-output pickup designed especially for the lead guitarist. The 81 is at its best for high volume overdrive and amps with a master volume. Whether you're playing power rock 'n' roll, or overdriving your amp, there's a razor sharp attack, and incredible sustain for brilliant soloing. If you're looking for exceptional qualities in a rock pickup, the EMG-81 is the one.

Distortion during lead passages is consistent, sustain is long and the breakup fades smoothly. The ceramic magnet in combination with wide aperture steel poles lend a quick attack but the tone stays nice and fat at the same time. Perfect if you're the only guitarist in the band, and need to switch from rhythm to lead and still keep the band moving. Another great thing about the EMG-81 humbucker is it's quiet. If you're playing at really high gain the last thing you need is noise.

Nice guitar, plays great. I ordered it online and it came already set up with great action. The 1st fret buzzes a little but not too badly and a little filing should take care of that. One thing I don't like is the screws on the bridge. They stick out a bit too far and when I palm mute they dig into my hand. That should be easily fixed as well. I wasn't expecting this guitar to be much lighter than your standard telecaster. It surprised me how light it was. It also has a cutout at the upper part of the body, like a Strat, that most Telecasters don't have. It's very comfortable to play though. The pickups rock though. Much different, and I think better, than the standard single coil in most Telecasters. The guitar looks cool with the black on black and no pick guard. I was disappointed that it was manufactured in Indonesia. The advertisement and specifications do not mention that. But overall I am happy with the purchase.

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

Love this guitar! i have had it for about a year now and the only complaint I have is that the gloss finish smudges easily and is hard to clean to the point that there are no fingerprints left. A bit ocd, yes, but some people, like me, want their guitars to be in perfect condition no matter what. Either way this is a spectacular guitar that sounds amazing and has blown me away time and time again on what it can really do. An expertly manufactured instrument that sounds as good as it looks, and plays as smooth as butter.

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

It's hard to find anything wrong with this guitar. The sound, fretboard action, and pickups are all quite good. My only complaint, and it's really not a guitar design fault, so much as it is my large thick ham hocks for hands, and thick sausage fingers, is the narrow neck. Other than that, this guitar is well worth the purchase price.

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

Great guitar plays well sounds great, solid electronics so far, but was some issues when I attained it. Minor things that are just kinda nit pick, one of the pin lines were crooked and tiny dings in the fret board. All in all solid guitar minus those 2 things

    pretty friggin nice!!

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

I bought this guitar online. Once I opened the box the first thing I noticed was it came with no gig bag. Come on Fender!!! But guitar was packed very well so no worries. The next thing I noticed was how great it look. Beautiful!!! This is not a bolt on neck. Neck was super strait. Has EMG pickups 81 and 85. My choice in pickups and main reason I bought this guitar. Sounds and plays really great even though it's a pretty light guitar, (around 5 pounds). Made in China but would never be able to tell if it wasn't for the serial number. The only problems I had was it wasn't setup at all. Had to do some work on it to get it to play amazing but it's easy do-able. The next problem was the saddle screws stick up above the saddles and are sharp as a knife. Will shread your hand!!!! Had to grind the screws down.

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

The unplugged tone is excellent. The EMGs make the tone unusual and interesting. I've considered some Seymour Duncan active pickups to accentuate the jazz tone, but it seems like it would be such a shame to compromise the exceptional tone it has.

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

My guitar checklist goes as such:

        Black
        Set or through neck
EMG 60/81 combo or 85/81 combo
        Thin
        Light weight

Not too many that fit this criteria besides this one. If you are looking for the old fashioned Telecaster twangy sound, this one isn't you. However if your criteria list shadows mine, then you might just want to grab one of these.

Black: The only non-black on mine is the binding and mother-of-pearl inlay dots on the fretboard. The neck glossy black and fast. I know a lot of folks do not care for finished necks but I don't care one way or another as I tend to go entirely by feel. Headstock is black.

Set neck: There are 3 or 4 options for Telecasters with a set neck including the Jim Adkins, one similar to this EMG model but with Dimarzio passive humbuckers, and a
Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH.

EMGs: Some love em, some hate em. If you are not in my camp, pick one of the others mentioned above.

Thin and lightweight: This thing feels like it is floating. It is so light.

This one is quickly becoming the guitar I grab. Would purchase again. As far as I can tell, this is an Indonesian made Cort done for Fender.

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

The Guitar has a small neck you need to be aware of. The EMG pick ups are the best I've ever heard. The workmanship is great, although mine came with loose tuning nuts, but that was simple to fix.I did have to send mine back because it was just so small at the nut that I couldn't finger most open cords. If You like a small fast neck this is the guitar for you.

Comments about Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH Electric Guitar with EMG Pickups:

I scored this guitar for only 399 on a Presidents Day sale. For that price, it is an unbelievable deal. At full price, maybe not so much.

It feels great, looks great, and there were no sharp frets or glaring flaws. There are some minor finish flaws near the binding. Nothing that an audience would ever notice, but the player with the keen eye might be bothered.

The guitar actually has good weight despite being thinner than a regular Telecaster, and the neck is very comfortable with great access.

If you're a fan of EMGs, well, here you go. Stock in the guitar. If you're not, well, this guitar is not for you. I do use EMGs regularly, so this guitar works for me. The 81 is great as usual, with all the bite and cut you expect. This guitar does not sound thin by any means. The 85 has never impressed me. It's adequate, but unspectacular and not memorable in any way. I'll be replacing it with a 60 or a 66.

If there is one flaw with the guitar, it is the stock string saddles. They are not rounded on the top, and are very sharp and will dig into your palm. If you're a wild player, you just might even cut yourself on them. I'll be replacing mine with some that are rounded down on the top.

In summary, for a cheap price, this guitar is a steal. For full price, you may want to do some comparison shopping.

A quality built, great sounding guitar. Plays extremely well, sounds beautiful on a clean amp setting on the neck pickup. The bridge pickup sounds great on clean but really sounds awesome with plenty of distortion! Extremely light guitar, a real pleasure to play! Has some fret buzz because of the jumbo frets but no big deal. I am 100% pleased with this Tele.
