Swap the pickups to TV Jones Classic and this sound as good as the Custom Shop Cabronita. Nothing wrong with the original pickup as they sound fine but lack the twang and articulation for a tele. Also, the bridge was swap for American Standard Hardtail Stratocaster bridge which fit perfectly and help with string height adjustment.
Guitar was shipped in a double box and packaged well, since there was no case or gig bag. 3-Tone Sunburst finish was flawless. Setup from the factory was spot-on with 9's. Fret edges were a little rough, but better than any other MIM guitar I've played. Volume pot was loose, as was input jack. Bridge is 2-1/8" string spacing, but I believe this guitar should have had 2-1/16", as the American Cabronita has. The strings don't exactly line up with the pickup poles and the high-e sting is a little close to the edge of the fretboard. Set screws and bridge saddles have sharp edges. With all that said, this guitar played and sounded great right out of the box. The fidelitron pickups, I believe they're made by Gretsch, are somewhere between a single coil and a P-90 in sound. Warmer than a typical trebly tele. Great tone with a little overdrive. I've since corrected all the above problems I've mentioned and set it up nicely with 10's. This guitar now rivals some of the more expensive guitars I own, and at half the price!! If you don't mind doing a little extra work to make this guitar something special, then this might be a chance to get a Cabronita on a poor man's budget.
I bought this Cabronita Tele last weekend (the White Blonde, ash body), and I have struggled to put it down. The Fideli?Tron humbuckers spit out a fat sound that still stays true to Tele tone. I absolutely love this guitar, as it was a definite upgrade from my Squier strat. If you're looking for an affordable tele with both a distinctive look AND sound, look no further.
