Overview

Fender's EXP-1 Expression Pedal is a dynamic new dual-mode digital pedal that controls the volume or amp/effect parameters on Mustang III, IV and V amplifiers and on the new Mustang Floor multi-effects unit. Switch between "volume" and "expression" modes by stepping on the toe end of the pedal. Red and green LEDs indicate the mode in use.

In "volume" mode, indicated by illumination of the green LED, EXP-1 controls the master volume or can be turned off. In "expression" mode, indicated by illumination of the red LED, the EXP-1 controls most Mustang amp and effects parameters. Common among these, for example, are the frequency parameters of a wah effect and the rate/time parameters of modulation and delay effects.

The EXP-1 pedal puts great tonal control at your feet and provides a great way to make your Mustang amp or multi-effects unit even more fun, more expressive and more versatile.

Comments about Fender EXP-1 Expression Pedal:

I went through 2 of these, both ordered new through Guitar Center. The first one was too easily engaged and would sometimes not power up if it were connected to the amp when I powered on the amp. The second one, again too easily engaged, after a few weeks I ran into the same problem where it didn't power on occasionally. Now I'm using a Digitech RP-500 in front for Volume and wah. The EXP-1 was a PITA, the switches on the 2 I received were never right, if you were using it for wah it was disengage back to volume no matter how light your touch is. Fender Mustangs are great amps but honestly the 2/4 button footswitch setup sucks. The Sanpera is a great controller for the Vypyrs... if fender would come out with something like that for the Mustangs it would be great. In fact the Mustang Floor layout would be great but design one as just a controller for the mustang,

Comments about Fender EXP-1 Expression Pedal:

This pedal works out of the box as a volume pedal for your Mustang IV v2 but if you get into the Fender Fuse sound editor you can use it to control parameters for your patches. I haven't done that yet though. For a volume pedal it works fine, but it is expensive.

Switch is just too easily engaged. Probably would have gotten a 5 but I shouldn't have to fix something I just bought.

Good hardware but software could be better

    By DENNIS GREEN

    from Farmington Hills, MI

Comments about Fender EXP-1 Expression Pedal:

Once I found out that the quick start card had incomplete instructions my pedal worked just fine. To calibrate it, you have to rock it to its extremes before releasing the button. The full manual makes this clear. My only complaint is that I wish the switch could toggle the effect I select but still control volume. The only choices are controlling an effect parameter when it is active. Some effects affect levels and are used for soloing, so there is good reason to want control of volume while not disturbing the effect settings (except for wah). They didn't think this through when they designed the software (or is this to force you to buy the 4-button foot switch?)

Very Good but one small problem

    By Joe Geiman

from Motorsports Racing Capital of the World

Comments about Fender EXP-1 Expression Pedal:

It works perfectly with the Fuse software and my Mustang III amp. It only operates on about 50% of pedal travel. The effect works 100%. Once the pedal is about 50% toe down there is no additional change in effect. I've tried recalibrating per the instructions in Fuse, still no full stroke. Others on the Fender Fuse forum have noted this problem and apparently Fender is working on a fix. I wanted a wah and volume pedal maybe I should have bought stand alone units and used them in the effects loop on the Mustang III.

    Perfect!

    By Nathan Imus

    from Dana Point, CA

Comments about Fender EXP-1 Expression Pedal:

Built strong. Works as volume pedal and expression pedal for effects such as delay and wah. Must be configured in Fuse software. Has a 1/4" jack to plug into 4 button footswitch and another to plug into Mustang amp, so the expression pedal and 4 button footswitch can be used at the same time. I believe this works only with Mustang III, IV, and V. I used this on a Mustang IV.
