Overview

A modernized version of a student-turned-classic instrument originally released in 1956, the Duo-Sonic HS model’s compact form belies its giant-sized sound. It’s the ideal companion for adventurous players who aren’t afraid to buck the norm and shatter expectations.

The Duo-Sonic HS new pickups let the true voice of the instrument shine. The single-coil Duo-Sonic neck pickup is joined by a vintage spec humbucking bridge pickup for flexible tone that can match any playing style imaginable. The push/pull tone pot switches to single coil operation on the humbucking bridge pickup, unlocking a variety of tones that can be shaped via the master volume and tone controls to find just the right sound.

The 24” scale adds a bit of warmth and thickness to the guitar’s inherent tone, while granting a slinkier playing feel, making it easier to perform multi-step bends. Topped by a 9.5”-radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, the “C”-shaped maple neck is comfortable for all playing styles and ideal for players with smaller hands, or those who use extended chord forms.

The six-saddle string through-body hardtail Strat bridge increases sustain while the bent steel saddles add some zing to your tone, enhancing the upper harmonics to cut through a dense mix. The smaller body is ideal for smaller players or for energetic stage performances. A gloss polyester finish protects the body while the neck bears a satin polyurethane finish for fast, easy playability.

The aesthetic appointments, including the knurled flat-top control knobs, cast/sealed tuning machines and a three-ply Mint Green pickguard, add a touch of classic Fender style to this updated and modernized design. A new take on a classic guitar that’s flown under most player’s radars, the Duo-Sonic HS is ready and rarin’ to go with surprisingly giant sound. Case sold separately.

Good versatile fun guitar

By Robert

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

This is a great guitar. It's lightweight and comfortable to play. It has classic fender sound with the neck pickup. The bridge gives you great rock tones. The single split of the humbucker is cool too. And both singles sound good. There's a lot of tone possibilities in this guitar. The build quality is better than a squire. This isn't an imitation, it's genuine Fender design and quality. The short scale makes playing easier, making playing it more fun.

Worth every penny

By Bill

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

These new Fender offsets are worth every penny and the some. I Bought the surf green one in Oxford Valley today. The neck is like a v strat with a satin finish on the back, very nice clean fretwork and sealed tuners that dot he job. The unit has a Strat hard tail bridge so all of the problems with the60s models are now gone. Pickups roar like a beast and the neck is every easy to play. I'm a bass p.ayer who wou.d probably never purchased a short scale guitar but this thing plays better than anything in my collection. The assembly out of the Mexican plant is top notch

Great concept but need polishing

By Strat fan Sean

from Lubbock, Texas

Pros

  • Nice size and weight
  • Pickup combination
  • Short scale length

Cons

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

Tried two different Duo-sonics. I like the size and weight, the looks, and the short scale length. Both guitars needed a setup. The action of both was high even for a new guitar. I didn't check the intonation, I'm sure it would also need some fine tuning after the action was adjusted. I like the humbucker/single pickup combination but the volume of the single coil dropped off significantly from the humbucker. The control knobs wobbled but it seemed to be the knobs and not the potentiometers. For me the pickup switch was too easy to hit with my leg unintentionally. I still like the guitar but it needs some work out of the box.

Amazing guitar - not just for petite players

      By Buffalo Luke

      from Buffalo, NY

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

Such a fat sound from the humbucker, and a nice warm tone from the single coil. I own two other electric guitars ('85 Fender Strat and a Gibson SG) and this is by far my favorite. Being a 6'4" man with huge hands, I thought it would be a bit of a challenge for me to play, but I have no complaints. The action is very smooth, and I can play this just as well as I can any of my other guitars. I don't think you'll get a better guitar for the price.

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

Being a girl, I'm a bit smaller than the average guitarist but this guitar has been perfect for me. It sounds great, feels great, and the look is amazing. (though the mint pickguard looks awful with the daphne blue. I'm switching it out for a pearloid one instead) Would totally recommend this to anyone who wants to play a genuine fender but thinks Strats and Teles feel uncomfortable.

I think my favorite thing about this guitar though is the humbucker. While Mustang bodies and necks are perfect for me, the single coils didnt always get it done for me as a punk musician. With the humbucker now, I get all the beef I could want in the bridge and I'm really looking forward to gigging with this baby.

This is one of the best guitars in the Fender line!!

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

I purchased this guitar a few weeks ago and I am completely satisfied with it. I am not going to bore you with technical talk. I'm sure you can read all of the specs listed above. The guitar has a really awesome punk/alternative rock tone. The neck is very comfortable and the frets don't appear to have any sharp edges. It actually feels more like an American neck than a Mexican neck. I purchased the guitar in Daphne blue and right out of the box the finish is gorgeous. There doesn't appear to be any paint imperfections. My only gripe is that it has a mint green pick guard. Personally I would prefer a brown tortoise shell pick guard. Obviously, it needed it a slight neck adjustment and the action needed set up to my liking. Once I got things fine tuned I started to play it and I was instantly blown away by how comfortable this guitar is. It has a short scale neck so my small fingers have no issues playing harder chords and scales. The humbucker sounds awesome, although it's not as bright as the SD Hot Rails Distortion pickups I prefer to use. The single coil pickup configuration sounds really surf like. For those of you looking for a cool guitar that's not your average dime a dozen guitar, look no further.

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

This is the first Fender guitar I have purchased and it was worth every penny. I've had a couple new squier stratocasters. Sounds great and is setup well right out of the box. I really enjoy playing on the shorter scale also. Great for people with average to smaller hands.

Comments about Fender Duo-Sonic HS Rosewood Fingerboard:

I was extremely disappointed with the initial unit in terms of quality control. Return was easy and reordering handled well by GC staff. Second shipment was of much better quality. With GC being a Fender dealer I would have expected that the issues could have been addressed in-house and then Fender company charged back for the repairs.
