This bass is a beast! It's basically a hot rodded jazz with American electronics and pickups. A 5 string jazz with lots of versatility. The sound youwant is in this bass. Lots of power! This bass sounds like a bass. When the back picup is favored or soloed it growls like an animal. Both pups on you get a well balanced mix of thump and growl. Neck pup soloed you get old school thud and boom. This bass is worth every penny. It's BIG and a tad Heavy but thats what gives it it's BIG and Heavy sound. Very well built, excellent craftsmanship. Smooth neck, and no sharp frets. I took the advice of some of the other reviewers and put on a set of strap locks. Changed the strings to DR SunBeams and did my own set-up on it. Plays awesome! I LOVE IT!

Thought this guitar would be the last one I'd ever need, but it let me down. It has terrible low end frequencies and plays like a battle axe...its also very heavy. The head stock also cracked on me and had to have it repaired. I do like the warm tones it produces.

Good Bass, Bit heavy

By JazzBassGuitarist35

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V:

This bass is a really nice upgrade from a starter like the Squier P Bass i started with. I really like the feel of this bass, but the top strap knob has a tendency to loosen itself, requireing constant tightening, but other than that this bass is flawless. Everytime i pull it out of its soft case, it is always nearly perfectly in tune. Fender really steped up this time. Bass is definatly worth the money.

Perfection, thy name is Fender Jazz

By William Wright Harris

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V:

I bought my 5 string J-bass five years ago and I could not have purchased a better instrument. It is an incredibly versatile bass that can literally play anything! Punk, metal, jazz, funk, name it and this bass can do it. Anyone claiming that this bass is not worth it more than likely just can't play. This bass is perfect for beginners and professionals alike. Also, when you pull this beautiful goddess out of her case everyone in the room knows that you are a serious player. I have played every bass imaginable and for your money you cannot find a better axe.

Pretty Fantabulous bass for the Money!

By Fingerstyle_bassist

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V:

To start off, This bass sounds great. It feels great in my hands and plays like an american made. The bass came set up the way I like it, no buzz...at all. Pros: I have had this bass for almost three months. The battery still has the same punch it did when I bought it. Sound is punchy yet full if you want it to be... or not. It can do anything with the 3-band EQ. It stays tuned well and sustains well. Cons: Straphooks come loose often. Not a light bass either. Pickups aren't completely noisless( but it could be my amp) Final Judgement:It is a geat bass. Buy it if you like the J bass sound in addition to versatility.

Dude, this thing is incredible

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V:

I would not have believed it in a dream. I got mine today and Fender got it right. Intonation and setup straight out of the box was great and there was even a battery in the compartment. Not to say it can't be tweaked, but I'd play a gig with it right now. Played it 5 hours tonight. I wouldn't have put it down except for that day job I have to attend on a fairly regular basis to pay the bills. If you are a working musician with not a lot of cash to throw at a guitar, get this one. I have an old hardshell case I got with another cheeeeep Peavey bass that is a Fender case I will use until I can get a nice tweed one. also will install strap locks. I don't wanna be dropping it. I lost my 1980 Rickenbacker 4001 to a stage accident a few years ago (the Peavey was a backup) and this guitar makes me forget about the Rick. The tone is better than I ever remember that Rick having. There are so many tones just waiting for you to enjoy in the guitar. unbelievable. I got mine for less than 750.. coupon for 15% off. What a steal. I should go to jail. :) Get it. It's a beast.

Why All Good Bases Sound Like Fenders

By Les Burton

from Detroit

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V:

A GREAT Bass. The only downside is the weight. The best thing about the bass is the range of sounds you can get just by adjusting a nob a hair. With this thing you can set your amp knobs to one setting and change your sound to fit ANY song just by adjusting the knobs on your bass. The only downside is the weight, and the fretboard is rather wide for a jazz. Just get a big strap and stop being such a baby. Buy it.

You can change the tone with the touch of a button.fantastic for any kind of gig.I cant stop playing it!!!!!!!It should cost more and go buy it today if u want a 5 string that sounds way better than it costs.

Nice price, nice Bass and Excellent Service

By PinoyRakista

from Germantown, MD

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V:

First of all, i am the type of person who always reads reviews but never wrote any. However, this is an exception because I am very thankful to Fender for replacing the Neck of my Fender Deluxe. i did not get the chance to set-up the bass until 6 months of ownership and noticed that the truss rod cannot be adjusted. i explained to Fender the issue I was having and they replaced my neck with no hassle. One tip I would suggest to Mexico made Fender buyers is to take time and test several units. My bass guitar is by far a lot better quality than other mexico made units. Feels and sound like an american fender. In short, I have tested par quality mexico made Fenders, but once in a while I find gems that you should not be let go because they are so worth the $$$. My mexican Fender is a keeper. I own, a Warwick Jazzman and a musicman Sterling. This Fender Deluxe is less than half the price i paid with my other basses but it is very comparable.

This Bass is a "Monster"!!!

By Earl Grant

from Richmond, VA

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V:

I bought this bass and can't believe how good it sounds. It's very responsive. Pick-ups are great. Wonderful tone and lots of low end. I only have to keep my controls on mid-way or less. A fantastic instrument. Never understood why people pay 3 or 4 thousand for a bass. That expensive hi-tech stuff is not necessary; besides you can't beat the tone of a fender. Mexican or American, the only diffrence is the price you pay. A great bass for any style of music.
