I am a Fender Jazz Bass fanatic, and have owned several over the years. My main bass was a black 1973 Jazz until the early 1990s and since then a sunburst "1962 reissue" manufactured in 1992, and a 2007 Highway One Jazz. A year and a half ago, I found a "vintage white" (light yellow) MIM Deluxe Jazz on sale. The bass has a very vintage vibe to it. I have played it since then mainly in my church praise band and at home. The bass has a fast ?C? neck and quiet electronics, but it is NOT built to American series standards. Mine required neck/fret work to correct a dead 16th fret zone by a Fender tech. (Free to me under warranty). The chrome on the tuners is unevenly applied and has tool marks from the dipping process. The tuners themselves allow the low E string to go flat too easily, and the stock bridge is the weakest link on the bass. The nut was cut a bit out of tolerance requiring the low E string to have extra windings to put enough downward pressure over the nut for good definition of notes. E string definition was a bit disappointing. In stock configuration I would give the bass an overall rating of 2.5 as delivered to me from the music store. But? following the neck modifications and the addition of a Leo Quan BAII bridge, this bass has become a music machine! The new bridge totally transformed the instrument. Now I would describe the sound as punchy, defined, and harmonically rich. The bass is very useful in rock, funk, blues, gospel, jazz, etc. Action is nice and low with a great Jazz Bass growl. The active electronics provide P-Bass to Jaco sounds quite nicely. The bass was so improved I bought a Fender HSC for it to replace the stock gig bag. So in current configuration it holds it?s own with my American made Fenders. Bottom line is it may (will?) require some tweaks but the basics for a killer bass guitar are there to be coaxed from it. If you need a real player without the need for tweaks I would strongly consider the Highway One Jazz Bass.

The wiring for the batttery very cheap material. It Broke right of the bat. For the price that I paid I was expecting somthing better. I returned it and had no problems at all. That was the best part of it all.
Features are ok but but if you try to slap or pull, the notes deaden. I'm not an expert on electronics but my 19 year old Ibanes SG does not do that and it is active electronics also.
Fender has done better. Action a mile high right out of the box and intonation not even close.
Not even what you pay for.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This bass is just overall fantastic great control over what sound you want to put out, it works for all types of music whether you're playing blues, jazz, country, hard rock, or soft rock. This will not disappoint. However the one warning I will give is that the color of the bass is a good bit darker than the picture makes it appear.

Incredible.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I've owned this bass for eight years now and it is hands down one of the nicest instruments I've ever played. If you're looking for an incredible bass at a reasonable price, this is it. I play a lot of different styles and this just about covers all of them. The active EQ is awesome for on-the-fly adjustments. I crank up the low end right before certain parts of songs to really make the audience feel it. There is virtually nothing to complain about with this bass. You might need to re-shield the cavities to stop some unnecessary noise. It's a common problem. If you really want to beef up the tone, replace the bridge. If you want to stay with Fender, find yourself a new Fender Hi-Mass bridge.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

The delivery was bolluxed by Mus. Friend (went to my rehearsal spot). But then the good stuff began! Right out of the box, after tuning it, the intonation & action were dead-on! Could adjust tone on the fly w/o any problem. I MIGHT have the action lowered a wee bit, but it's fine as is. I wish it had the easy-changing battery setup like on my Jaguar Deluxe (that really spoiled me).

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I am not a full fledged bass player, but play often in a studio. I have only owned a few bass guitars, this being the most expensive one. I bought the vintage white. I've thought of buying another, but why? This is a great bass that can do most everything I need it for. It's easy to play, and I can dial in any tone I'm looking for. I've had it for 8 years with no problems. Just an initial set-up. Well worth the money. Would have liked a nitro finish.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This is a poor sounding bass for the money. You are just paying for a name. It is built very cheap and bad. Stya away from this one. Spend your money on something better. A lot of noise in electronics, nut was broken (very thin), and weak low output. I have owned many basses, this is not a good one!

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

This bass is well built with excellent hardware and electronics. By far the most comfortable both is playability and tone, and I have played a lot. From Hofners, through Gibsons, and a dozen or so Fenders. This is simply the best bass on the market for th price. Disregard the bad reviews, the pickups are awesome, and the wiring complaint must have been an accidental build error. Mine is simply superb

      Great Versatile Active Bass!

      By Brandon Kempf

      from Long Island NY

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

I bought this bass a few weeks ago, and I have to say, I absolutely love it. I play bass in a Pop-Punk band, and I could easily dial in the tone I was looking for with this bass. I was playing a mexican made P-Bass before, and this Jazz sounds and plays so much better in my opinion. My favorite bassists are Mike Herrera of MxPx, Matt Freeman of Rancid, and Bryan Kienlen of The Bouncing Souls... I play the bass through a PF500 Ampeg head into a Svt 410Hlf cab, and it was easy to get a tone just like they all have. I would highly recommend this bass to anyone looking for a quality bass at a reasonable price, especially if you play a lot of Punk, Pop-Punk, Hardcore music.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass:

The bass is not the best sound. The pickups are weak and sound is not clear. The Fender workmanship on thie one is poor. It is a MX built Guitar. I was really let down on this one. I have the five string one just like this one, so I brought this one. The active eletronics is not strong too!
