I went into guitar center one day with a buddy of mine to go check out some bass guitars since we are primarily bassists. I've been a bassist and a musician overall for about 9 years now. For years now I've been wanting to experiment and learn guitar and I've always thought that a great way to start was by buying and learning an acoustic guitar. As I enter the acoustic section I run into The Fender DG-8S acoustic. I tried it out and I really loved the sound quality and the feel of it.(This was after I had tried a few other more expensive acoustics.) I went to check the price thinking it was going to be expensive due to the great sound quality. I was shocked to see that it was only $199.99! and not only that, I was shocked to read that it was a value pack bringing everything. All these great things and great guitar for only $200?! I had to come the next day and buy it. I am very pleased with it! I play it everyday and it has stayed in tune ever since. All the accessories that come with it are great and useful! I seriously and strongly recommend this guitar not only for beginners but even for any level of guitarist.
The Good; Solid (two piece) spruce top, excellent finish, narrower neck than most beginner guitars, easy to play, GREAT TONE, comes with gig bag (not the best but hey its something), kit comes with a much nicer winder than the Dunlop brand, and the tuner is now our go-to tuner. The Cons; NONE!! I recently aquired this guitar pack from a friend who decided he didn't have time to learn. It has been at my place for 2 months now and has not been tuned since I got it home. It simply stays in tune. It is played daily. Fender factory strings are actually not all that bad, but I still changed them for some Phosphor Bronzes (Light). This guitar sings. For a cheap guitar I was not expecting much, but it is now my go-to guitar. I would see no problem with someone gigging this at a small venue. I would rate this as more than just a beginner/intermediate guitar but not quite professional. If you want a good solid guitar you cant go wrong with this one, regardless how new/old to playing you are.
My husband wanted to learn to play the guitar, so I was looking to purchase a guitar for him for Christmas. I researched like crazy, considering a more expensive used guitar, a Seagull or Taylor. I went into the Guitar Center on 14th Street and spoke to the guy in the acoustic section and he completely listened to all my novice ideas and questions, he was so respectful and didn't make me feel ridiculous for not knowing anything about guitars. Bottom line, he said that there wasn't much difference in getting a $200 starter guitar vs. a fancier used guitar that would have originally cost $400-$500. Also, this package was very much worth it because it come with all the initial accessories that you need. I would have had to buy all that stuff in addition to the guitar if I went with a used one. My husband loves the cache of having a Fender and he has been playing it since he got it. I'm very happy with my purchase and the entire experience.
