Custom Shop Texas Special Pickups

By AApollo02

from Hollywood, MD

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

Made famous by Stevie Ray Vaughn that unique and beautiful tone comes to life when you plug a set of these in. The tones are beautiful and ring out giving your guitar that knarl and extra bite. I have a Mexican Strat with a set of these in it and other then the differences in the bridge i truly can not tell the difference between my foreign made strat and an american. They are also ideal for multi-styles of music such as rock, blues, country, and indie. I recomend that if you are a strat owner you invest in a set of these. They will take your playing to a whole other level.

Amazing srv tone

By 123

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

These pickups are amazing. After installing these just put on some 11's and your guitar will come to life. With heavier strings it makes the tone so much better. The tone is so rich it sounds just like srv. I highly suggest buying these to improve your tone. Can play with any type of music except heavy metal.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I've got a Mexican Strat, and I put the Texas Specials in it. They are quiet, and smooth. The stock pickups just had to much hiss for me. It really woke up a sleeping giant. This guitar sounds like an american strat to me.

Texas special pickups

By justin2112

from Columbus, OH

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I bought these pickups to swap into a standard made in mexico strat. I love the texas special pickups. These pickups are the perfect way to wake you strat up a little more. They still provide a traditional strat sound, but just a little less twang and a little more bite. Love the feel of your strat but want a more edgy dirty sound? No need for a new guitar, here is your solution.

Killer tone

By Tony Paul Dunn

from New Orleans, LA

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I have several guitars of which 3 are Strats. The most expensive one is an '08 American Standard, the cheapest is a Mexican Strat loaded with Texas Specials. I only use the American Standard if I break a string on stage. I think that says it all. These pickups can turn any decent axe into your favorite at a very decent price. You just can't beat 'em!

crisp and tough

By Wells

from Minneapolis

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

My Dad and I wired these pickups into my Squier (yeah, I know, I've got a Celestion equipped Fender 25R to give to my brother, too), and it roared to the point I didn't know what to do with the extra bite, which comes alive with good amplification. There's like 600 extra windings in each pickup, making them hot, hot, hot! Take a snapshot of Mark Knopfler, Albert Collins, or one of the Vaughn Boys and jam it into your fav style.

Hot sounds

By Hellmark

from Winfield, MO

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

The Stratocaster is a great, versatile guitar, with a sound that can fit in anywhere. Now sometimes, its nice to take something great, and add in a little spice, to give it some extra punch. This is where the Fender Custom Shop works their magic with the Texas Special pickups. I've had these for a few years now in one of my guitars, and compared to my stocker Strat, these pickups just make things seem more alive, especially when I crank up the overdrive. No muddy sound at all, like some brands are, these are clear as a bell. They are pricey, I do have to admit that, but nothing good in life comes cheap.

I give 'em 6 Stars. Period.

By 'Dullboy' Martin

from Warren, Michigan

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

OK, look...I am not one of these guys who rants and raves about something when I like it. But, lemme tell ya...these Texas Special Strat PU's are phenomenal! Fender has done it this time. They still have that signature Strat sound on 'em, but the lows are much chunkier, the highs are more bell-like, and the mids have an animalistic 'bite' to 'em. Great output, too. I had them installed on my '94 MIM Fender Strat by a master guitar tech with 37 years experience, and even HE wanted to get a set after he heard 'em. So, take my word for it, fellow Blues/Rock enthusiasts...if you want a more chunky, vivid blues tone, these are the real deal, and worth every fraction of each penny. Slap some Ernie Ball 10's on ur axe, and let the good times rock...and roll.

Truly Amazing

By Steve

from Memphis, Tn.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I have a MIM fat strat that I changed up to a standard strat. I put some tex mex pickups in to start, but just was not what I was looking for. I ordered these in March and finally recieved them today. When put these in, my jaw hit the floor. These things are truly amazing. As I moved from one pickup to another it was like Stevie was right there. Each pickup has its own sound. The highs sing and the mids growl. Very good low end as well. Very good for country, blues, and sothern rock. If you want to jazz up your strat, I say this is the way to go.

Love your MIM Strat but want better tone? Get these pickups!

By Scot

from San Jose, CA

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I've owned a Mexican-made Standard Strat since '97, and while I absolutely love how it feels I always thought it could have used better pickups. Well, a couple months ago I sprang for a set of Texas Specials and all I can say is WOW! Compared to the stock pickups, these have a much warmer midrange while retaining just enough high-end bite, plus they still clean up very nicely when I roll back the volume. If you're looking for a little better sound from your MIM axe, these are just the ticket.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

Installed in my late model MIM strat. A HUGE improvement over the stock pickups. The stock pickups in a MIM strat are pretty close to what you'd find in a toy guitar... Lots of plastic and ceramic bar magnets. These pickups have added a dimension of clarity to my sound that im quite pleased with. Open chords sound much more defined, and notes above the 12th fret sound sweet! If you have a MIM strat, this is probably the best single upgrade you can give your guitar. I HIGHLY recommend these.

      Wow!

      By Richard Mcclain

      from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

Last night I replaced the original pickups in my MIM strat with the Texas Specials. This morning I'm still kicking myself for not doing this ten years ago. I've always liked the playability of my strat but was never satisfied with the sound. The texas specials have changed that in a big way. I can highly recommend that if you own a MIM strat get rid of those original pickups, they are trash compared to TS. Money well spent.

New Life for an old guitar

      By David Crosby

      from Riverview, FL

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I had an old Squier Stratocaster that was collecting dust I hated the way it sounded. I bought a set of the Texas specials to replace the stock pickups in hopes of at least making it playable and losing some of the hum and hiss that came with the stock pups. Well, I got way more than what I bargained for. I can't put this guitar down now. These pickups sound awesome. Its like I'm playing a 1000.00 Strat. I'm completely blown away by the incredible tones. The lows are really nice, mids have a great bite, but most of all I don't have that "shrill" high that I hated so much from the bridge. Much stronger Pups as well I don't have any of the sound loss with the Texas Specials that I had with the stock pickups. I can't say enough about what a difference these made. I was ready to trade this guitar off. Now with the specials installed you couldn't pry this guitar out of my hands.

I'm not a very experienced musician, but have worked in the field as a sound tech, and know good tone when I hear it. My Strat came with Fat 50s, which sounded great, but I wanted something more aggressive, and this pickups give me what I wanted.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I've been playing for around 10 years, mostly in church and at smaller gigs (50-200). I've had a few cheap guitars, but recently purchased a used HSS MIM Strat. The factory pickups weren't that great for what I play, so I decided to try out the Texas Specials, as SRV is one artist that I draw inspiration from.

Wow. I've tried all kinds of strings, amp settings, and pedals to get a good blues tone, but these pickups make it so easy to dial in that throaty Texas sound. I use an Egnater Tweaker and Boss ME-70, so I've got a pretty versatile setup, but the change in quality of sound from the stock pups to these babies is incredible. Very smooth sound from all positions. The Bridge has the right blend so the highs cut through the mix without sounding harsh. The Middle is actually usable! I never used it with the stock pups because it just sounded like garbage (for lack of a more expressive term). The 2 and 4 positions suffered because of the poor quality of the Mid, but now all 5 positions sound equally great. I still use the Neck position a lot and am consistently rewarded with a beautiful, warm tone that isn't muddy.

When you crank up the gain, you get a nice crunch while still maintaining single-note clarity. They respond very well to changes on the tone knobs. I keep the volume at 10 on the guitar, so I'm not sure how they respond there, but they are excellent pickups. I did the install myself and had no issues, even having no prior experience with redoing electronics. Well, the braided wires did give me issues when trying to strip them, but that's a minor inconvenience. Just get a decent pocket knife and you're good to go.

If you're looking for a pickup to dive bomb and shred with, I don't think this is what you're looking for. That said, these are the best pickups I've heard for a nice Country/Blues tone.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

I placed a set of these into my 1995 American Standard Strat. I had a pair of Fender Lace Gold Pick ups in it for years. These got me to the tone that I search for. I like to play a lot of SRV style licks and blues. You can't beat this set of pick ups. They are after all "Custom Shop" pups. If you enjoy the Fender Texas blues tone, these are for you.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Strat Pickups:

These pickups are absolutely incredible. The tone and clarity is outstanding. I have a 1983 Ibanez Roadstar II series that I installed them in. It turned my guitar into that vintage strat sound, without paying the vintage strat money. I couldn't be happier.
