I was a bit skeptical at first with this new Jaguar, because many of the old features had been changed. After playing around with it, however, i found it to be one of the most intelligently designed guitars around. The Lead/Rhythm circuit switch now functions as a Master Killswitch (for those who like to experiment Tom Morello style) and what was once the Volume and Tone controls for the Rhythm circuit are now Humbucker/Single Coil blend adjusters for each pickup. With these, you can now adjust each pickup individually if you wish for it to have Humbucking tone or Single Coil tone (or a little in between.) This gives you an almost unlimited amount of tones from one guitar. And for this price, this guitar is amazing. Thank you Fender.

I still haven't decided if I'll send this guitar back yet, mainly because there are a few things very right about it that could go very wrong on another or even another. The things that ARE wrong, I can correct. In order of discovery, the action was way too high, and lowering the bridge all the way down left it still much too high. The bridge studs weren't all the way in, but seating them further in would not yield enough change, and the bottom of the bridge base will have to be ground down about 1/4" on each end, that's a lot and will require a heavy-duty power grinder. I have one and can do that, but shouldn't have to work that hard. The trussrod adjustment screw is completely inaccessible, there is less than 1/8" cut out of the pickguard, so no screwdriver of any kind/size can touch the screw's slots, but worse, the body itself covers more than half the screw. Again, I can remove material to correct the problem, but shouldn't have to. Anyone without my decades of experience & shop tools would have no choice but to return it, but also may not even notice these defects until well after 45 days, then only hopeful of a warranty repair by a luthier, if there is one near them. The tremelo (whammy bar) lock only locks in one direction, you can still bend the thing down (dive bomb), and if a string breaks, it won't do the job intended for it without your (my) fiddling around. That appears to be the design, not a good one. My first brand new guitar I bought for myself was a Jaguar in 1962. It had zero defects. This thing requires work, if I send it back, I might not get a neck as well made as this one's. It's nearly perfect, the fret ends are well dressed, no sharp ends. That's a first on an unbound neck in many years. The next one might not be right. The electronics are great, no noise, works as designed. Another might be noisy. since the two main things I care about are right, I'm still thinking about keeping it. If I send it back, I'll report on the new one. If this review is the only one you see from me, I decided to keep it and make it perfect, myself. What you do as a customer is up to you, MF.com will make it right for you, whatever you do. This, I also have many years of experience with, MusiciansFriend is simply the best!

No complaints here!

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special HH Electric Guitar:

Nothing but complaints it seems. Sad really. From all the complaints I've read on line, I am the lucky one. My Jag was delivered ahead of schedule and required only to be tuned. The intonation was on. The action was as low as possible. And it is low! No effort to play. The wiring all works as designed and it sounds great. Very versatile. The sunburst finish is flawless. I think this is only my 3rd or 4th guitar out of the 30 I have purchased that didn't need to be set up. Read reviews and was a bit worried when I ordered. But I know my way around guitars so figured I could fix anything sent my way. Tuned it and smiled all the way to the studio. Take a chance if you've always wanted one. You'll be happy in the long run. Life's full of risk. Deal with it.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special HH Electric Guitar:

I was a bit wary when I ordered this guitar because of some of the other reviews, and now that I have it I can see that it's reasonable what everyone is saying. Once I plugged it in I noticed that the bridge humbucker was stuck in the single coil mode despite moving the roller that would switch it back and forth. That function was half the reason I wanted the guitar so bad. But luckily a certified Fender tech lives near by and had it taken care of in a few days (I'm terrible with a soldering iron).
The guitar is amazing. The pick ups and the rollers and switches help you create some cool tones. No regrets getting it so far. Just be willing to get some wiring fixed when you buy it.
Shame on those dudes at Fender for doing such a bad job with the wiring on an otherwise perfectly awesome guitar.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special HH Electric Guitar:

This guitar is as versatile as they come. I have had mine for over two years now and I am still discovering its tonal capabilities. When I go to guitar center I inevitably just end up playing a guitar just like this one and wonder why I bothered leave home. If you are a beginner with some cash to spend, buy this guitar and it will provide you everything you will need to learn. If you are an amateur this guitar will give you space to develope your style. If you are a pro you will quickly fall in love with the wild variety of tones you can get out of this thing. I've played far more expensive guitars of all different brands; this one is still my favorite.

Great guitar... once you fix it

      About Me Experienced

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special HH Electric Guitar:

I first purchased this guitar from a different online retailer and promptly sent it back. The bridge pickup output was about 1/5th of the neck, and the guitar was missing the protective plastic sheeting over the neck plate (but had a little of the plastic still left under the screws, like someone had torn it off).

I then ordered this was from musiciansfriend as a replacement. It also had no plastic on the neck plate (but again, some plastic remnants under the screws), but the bridge pickup seemed to work at least. That is, until I noticed that there was NO difference in tone between the neck and bridge. Long story short, I had to completely rewire this guitar. Fender did a TERRIBLE job. One of the pickup wires from the bridge was frayed on the end and only a couple of strands were actually soldered. There was a short in another wire as well.

In addition, this guitar is very poorly grounded. I ended up using copper tape to shield the entire cavity, and only after grounding to the underside of the pickguard did I get rid of the hum (incidentally, a custom black pickguard looks much better than the tortoise).

However, once I fixed it all, I can't complain. I love the feel and I love the tone. And this poor review should NOT reflect badly on Musician's Friend. But Fender, come on. Made in Mexico or not, to get back-to-back poorly-wired bridge pickups? And what's up with that missing plastic? And why was the plastic sheet over the pickguard so badly scratched on both guitars?

I'd say go for it... you can always send it back if you get a bum one.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special HH Electric Guitar:

I'm not an expert on setting up guitars, but I have the same difficulties with intonation of the G string as I did on my blacktop Jag HH. Also, my bridge pickup stopped working, not sure if it's the switch or something else.

That said, this guitar sounds awesome when it's in tune and working. Stock pickups are great, and it looks great. Like someone said before me, be ready to spend time getting this guitar to play and work the way you want.

        Outstanding!

        By Johnny

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special HH Electric Guitar:

I like everything about this guitar. I like the heft. Light guitars are not my thing. The electronics are superb and extremely versatile. I'm playing in a 60's/surf band right now, and I would have been happy to get those kind of tones, but this guitar is so versatile it will serve me well in a wide variety of applications. The pickups have nice full output, very even across the spectrum. Love the kill switch. The trem is par for the course, maybe a little better than most, I almost always have to do a little touch up here and there to get them to stay in tune, and this one will be just fine. The fit and finish on my specimen is flawless. I did have to re-set the neck to get the strings even across the fretboard, standard procedure with bolt neck guitars across all price points in my experience. It took to a set-up in about 20 minutes and plays like a champ (the gold standard of a well-made guitar in my book). Comfortable modern C neck profile. I had to deepen the nut slots slightly, another common procedure with a new guitar (they don't like to cut them too deep in the factory for good reasons). Fortunately, the relief is spot on, so I didn't have to tweak the truss rod. However, if you do need to adjust the rod, you will need to clamp the strings with a capo at fret one and remove the neck. Forget about the little faux vintage cutaway in the pickguard that shows you a peek of the rod end; the body itself is not cut to accommodate a screw driver, so you couldn't get one in there even if the pickguard slot was cut bigger. In order to adjust the rod with the neck attached, you and/or your tech would need to dremel out a chunk of the body itself at the neck pocket. Not worth it to me. There are some advantages with a rod that adjusts at the heel, so I'll just let it be. In short, I can't find a thing to complain about with this guitar. I'm so impressed, I even splurged for the Fender orange fur hardshell case. I own well over 100 guitars, and this one instantly found its way into a regular utilitarian rotation. It's a looker, so it will definitely see stage time, and it might even find itself in the studio as well.

Comments about Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special HH Electric Guitar:

The only complaints I have of the unit is that the pick guard had a few scratches, no original plastic covering attached to the pick guard and the bridge pickup has very little volume. It almost sounds like the wiring is dead. But with the volume turned all the way up, you do get a small amount of sound. I could send the unit back, but will instead investigate and attempt to repair myself.

As for the set up, intonation and action, everything else it is the way I expected the guitar to be upon arrival.

It might not be an American built Jaguar, but all other aspects of quality control were strictly adhered to.

This guitar seriously rocks. Great pickups and the numerous selector switches let you dial in any tone you can think of from heavy rock to blues to jazz and R&B. I bought the 3-tone sunburst and it looks great along with the chrome switch plates. The neck feels good and the finish is awesome. This is now my main guitar for gigging and recording, but of couse I will not set my '72 Custom Deluxe Telecaster reissue to the side either. Can't go wrong with this one for sure.
