Sonic Blue and then some

By Beeswax584

from Studio City, California

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

OK, a lot of times I read these reviews and I figure there's some guy in the sales department writing these glowing reviews to encourage a higher buy rate on a laging model of guitar. (tell me you never thought that might be true) I am 6' 3" have big hands and find playing this guitar amazing each and every time I play it. I have actually not been able to sleep because I don't want ot put it down. When you buy a new guitar, there is that uncomfortable period before it locks in as your new best friend. This courtship is fast and powerful. It stays in tune, and in some ways has a voicing like a well balanced acoustic guitar. This is really wierd considering it's a Strat. I have played the Eric Johnson model until my eyes rolled back in head & this is so much more comfortable and fun to play. Remember FUN?

PRACTICALLY A CUSTOM

By Alienpickhead

from PTC, Georgia

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar was designed by the custom people at Fender, and should be a custom if not for being made in Mexico. So i went to GC today and picked up a 50s classic player, but my hands are to big for the neck. This neck like gold for my claws. The sound was perfect with 69 custom pickups and a Fender Blues Jr. She was lite weight as well, not like a Les Paul. I always thought an American was the epitamy of Strats but now I am goin to save up for a Classic Player.

My first strat

By D_Phlat

from New York

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I recently sold a '69 SG that I used years ago for rythym and occasional slide- I am exploring my soloing potential. I was originally drawn to the Tele, perhaps because of the similarities to the SG. I was disappointed with the choices in that model and tonal expanse. I played this classic player 60's in the store and knew I had to have it. The look is pure vintage; with its mellowed knobs and parchment pickguard (without the tempermentality of real vintage). The sonic blue is way prettier and more subtle than the almost harsh blue it appears in pics on the computer- think old school hot rod. When I got it home and fully explored it through my little tube amp I was very impressed with the range and quality of the sound: meaty bottoms, strong middle, to tangy highs- all with lots of sustain to go around. The sixties pickups aren't as hot as others I've played but I'm okay with that for the tradeoff of tone. Caution- stay with the recommended .010 string gauge. I mistakenly wrapped some 9s and the intonation and action went haywire. The proper strings put it back in line. Recommendation- a guitar this good should come with a hard case.

just what i was looking for

By Gonzalo _Rios

from Vina del Mar, Chile

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I'm from Chile, and i bought this guitar during my vacations in florida, at Guitar Center in Ft. Myers. I wanted a guitar that for an affordable price could gave me a clean and sustained sound. I had a Les Paul in mind, but after seeing this beauty in three colour sunburst, and playing it through a Marshall amp, I changed my mind inmediatly. In appearence, it looks like the real deal, and the C shape neck feels like butter. It had some buzz on a couple of frets at the beggining , but they tuned it up for free , and now it plays and sounds great. If you are looking for an affordable guitar which sounds, feels and LOOKS beautiful, this is it!!

Classic Strat, High Quality

By Ben Richman

from Arkansas

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've never been a big Strat fan. I tried an American Standard and the Clapton model, but both left me cold. Then I stumbled upon the Classic Player '60s Strat. I immediately loved the feel of it--the glossy, C-shaped neck is fast and comfortable--but I was afraid that when I plugged it in, the tone would be as unimpressive as the other Strats. Boy was I wrong! This thing screams. The bridge pick-up is twangy; crank up the gain and it's sharp and abrasive, full of Hendrix-esque bravado. The other four pick-up settings are just as impressive, offering a wide variety of versatile tones. And what do you expect? This Strat might be made in Mexico, but it's custom shop designed, INCLUDING the pick-ups! The tremolo is also custom, and almost always stays in tune even if you're hard on it. The finish is also beautiful, but since it's polyester it lacks the subtlety of nitrocellulose. Still, this is an amazing guitar, and I highly recommend trying it out even if you're not a Strat fan. I wasn't one either until I picked up this baby.

best strat in years?

By Sonny Wolf

from Austin Texas

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've owned many strats over the years but I'm blown away by the sonic blue 60's classic player strat I picked up.Mine in particular is very special compared to others I've tried(although they were all great).Perfect weight, perfect neck shape and radius, jumbo frets, very loose bending stings(even with 11's)and killer pickups. This guitar channels a Hendrix vibe, lots of raw snarl in the bridge, transparent and funky in #2,very stratty in #3,Buddy guy in #4 and S.R.V. in #5.Very vintage sounding.Amazing loud and resonant acoustic tone...everything I love about a great strat!I'll put this Mexican vs any U.S. model,it is that good.

Superb value

By Bluesfan64

from McKinney, Texas

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I own quite a few expensive instruments and more than a few Strats. And this is the least expensive of all of the Strats I've owned. I believe we all have a "sound" in our heads of what we think a Strat should sound like. Even after owning several Fender Custom Shop Strats and several American made Strats, this Strat comes as close as I've come so far to emulating the Strat tone I hear in my head. Before owning this guitar, I'll admit that I thought the Made in Mexico instruments were a step below the American stuff. I don't feel that way anymore. This is a very high quality instrument. After overcoming my prejudice, I'm now considering adding the Mexican Baja Tele to the collection!

Amazing Strat Tone

By Andy T

from Holliston, Ma.

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I had been shopping around for an American made Strat with the S1 switch and SCN pickups. I picked up this vintage Strat, and couldn't put it down. I tried various American Strats, but kept coming back to this one. The Classic Player's Strat is everything that I was looking for. The tone is absolutely amazing, (for my tastes), creamy, rich, full, and clean. If that is the tone that you are looking for, then there is no need to shop any further. Don't let the fact that this guitar is made in Mexico influence your decison. It is an absolutely amazing guitar!!

one nice axe

By Little Stevie from the "Knucleheads".

from Tucson,Az.

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased a 60's sonic blue Classic Players Strat. It is made in Mexico. I could have purchased an American Highway One Strat for $50 less, but the quality of the Players Strat is far superior to the Highway One (sorry America, but it's true). I could have purchased any Strat in the store (and there were about 50 on the wall), and I got this one. I was initially drawn to it because it was so pretty...it is nicer in person than in the pictures in the catalogs or on line. Simply put...this thing plays like a dream. The 12" neck radius lets you lower the action so it plays like an Ibanez or a Gibson. It's about time Fender realized that most of us like low action. There are two things that it does not have that would have made it perfect...locking tuners and pickups that do not hum. I took it to a repair guy, and he is correcting those things, and then I will have the nicest Strat upon planet Earth. That...my friends...is the plain truth...spoken by a man that is afraid to lie.

The ultimate Strat

By some dude

from Florida

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I was goint to get the standard strat, but this one caught my eye and I just had to have it. The aged parts, the sweet paint job, (mine is in sunburst)and the vintage style headstock really set this guitar apart from the rest. And to top it all off, it's got a killer set of 69 strat pickups. (each hand wound by Abigail Ybarra) O, and the neck is extremely comfortable even for small hands. (take it from a guy with really small hands) This guitar can play everything form SRV, hendrix, and clapton to metallica, black sabbath and AC/DC. No matter what ur playing style, this guitar can do it. BUY THIS GUITAR AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Had this model & color pegged from the start; can be a difficult guitar to find. The color (Sonic Blue) & the '69 pickup set were the clinchers for me. The Custom Shop/vintage influence didn't hurt, either. I'm super picky about weight - I won't take anything less than 8 lbs for a Strat, which can be a tall order. I completely lucked out here as I **thankfully** scored one at 8 lbs 2oz. Next investment is a decent hard case. This one is a total keeper.

    Great Guitar

    By StateOfTheArt

    from Indiana

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Just picked up this strat last night. Outstanding, the 9.5" radius on the neck is a big difference. I have bigger hands so, it feels like home to me. I picked up this guitar in Sunburst, and changed out the pickguard to a 3-ply tortise shell. I got about 10 compliments just walking out of the store about how great that guitar looked. As a player for 13 years, this is by far the best quality strat I have owned. For this price, it's a steal, a hidden gem!

    from KAL-EE-FO-NIA (arnold joke)

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

alright, so i was kinda skeptical of strats and teles cuz i've had a schecter and then upgraded to a Gibson L.P. Faded Tobaccoburst and got monster tones outta them. then...i found this one and it just called to me! the thin neck reminds me of Gibson's 60s neck and the overall craftsmanship and detail was....WOW! i changed out the pickguard for the Tortoise Shell and the pickups for the HOT NOISELESS (yeah i liked the 69s in there but i wanted something that will scream when i need it to). but i will definately pick-up another one in Sonic Blue when the time comes and leave it just the way it is to preserve that "old school" feel. but you will not be disappointed if you get this

    Love It

    By Brian

    from Florence SC

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Before This I owned an American Standard Telecaster Ash body and neck. Great guitar but not for me. The neck was just to thin and I really wanted that "bell" like tone you get with a Strat. I bought a Mexi Standard Strat and still was not happy. The Neck was to thin and I did not like the amount of wood that was cut out for routing. More wood = more tone. SO I did my research and found these babies. They have single coil routing meaning more wood in the body and the neck is thicker than other Strats. This is hands down my fav electric I have ever owned.

5 stars for the money, 4 overall

    By dave

    from hanover, nj

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought the sunburst last year. The pickups provide the true strat quack tone. The feel and playability is great. The pickups provide beautiful tones but are pretty noisy. I shielded the back of the pickguard and that helped. The 12" radius allows me to lower the action without fretting out past the 12th fret. Not a fan of the truss nut being at the bottom of the neck, but it poses no barriers to setting up the guitar. I grinded down a screwdriver to fit in there so I can make adjustments without taking the neck off. Also not a fan of vintage tuners. I put a few drops of lemon oil on the nut and that made tuning easier. Also my guitar tech said the bridge and neck pickup were accidentally swapped at production.

    Sweet Player

    By Dana Hirschberg

    from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I was in the market for a new guitar and always wanted a Fender Strat. My preferred choice was a Stevie Ray Vaughan signature model but it was way out of my price range. After doing some research I came across this gem. Many of the specs are very similar to the SRV model and its more than 1/2 the cost. Guitar plays and feels great although it did need some tweaking upon getting it home which is expected. Note for those who aren't used to synchronized tremolo's it took a min to figure out how to keep the guitar in tune. Get it while they last. Rumor has it this model is being discontinued...

The '50's strat is warm as a Tele or a Les Paul, this can whistle, howl, grunt and is a joy to hold, try it and buy it!!

      Side by Side

      By JGoodell

from La Porte, TX formerly of Stafford, CT

Comments about Fender Classic Player '60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I sat down today for an hour with the 50's, 60's and John Mayer Signature strats. The 50's and the 60's strats are two different beasts, the 50's is very jangly (think Buddy Holly) while the 60's is warmer. The pickups and difference in fret board material I believe account for much of that. The JM strat and the 60's are very similar while the fit and the finish on the JM is far better than the 60's, the vibe from each is comparable. And while I was considering the JM as a future purchase I think I'll save the money and by a case, strings, and Italian language software. The details are, the JM has a fatter neck, the super jumbo frets and special pickups. While they make the JM distinct it doesn't really effect the vibe and I like the 60's just as much, especially at almost half the price
