I bought this to replace my frontman 212R and Mustang IV. I like the simplicity of the frontman and it had a good clean tone to work with, however this champion 100
is LEAPS AND BOUNDS BETTER. They actually put in an audio taper pot and replaced the linear pot that would jump from 1 to about 5 in volume. The champion has great volume control. I also have the mustang IV 2x12 combo and I think the Champion 100 sounds better. how you ask? simple. THEIR IS NO MORE DIGITAL HISS IN THE AMP MODELING. I loved the bassman model in the mustang, but could never get passed to trailing off digital hiss. what ever Fender did, they fixed it here. Ive had trouble finding the EXACT amp models for this amp online, so I will post them here. they are Tweed Bassman, Tweed Deluxe (clean), Tweed Deluxe (dirty), Tweed Champ, 65 Twin, 65 Deluxe, 65 Princeton (clean), 65 Princeton (dirty), 60's British Clean, 60's British Dirty, 70's British, 80's British, Fender Super-Sonic, 90's Metal, 2000 Metal, and "jazzmaster" (Roland JC120). It has a whole lot of effects and a GOOD SPRING REVERB WITH THAT FAMILIAR "PLUNK" SOUND. The amp also responds well to rolling off the volume. I took a chance with this amp and it payed of great. Im very happy with it, as I hardly ever feel compelled to write reviews. A WORD OF ADVICE! THE SPEAKERS NEED TO BE BROKEN IN! Put a HEAVY blanket over this thing and crank it for a bit. It sounded a bit "cold" until the speakers were broken in, but after that, WHOA. If it were lost or stolen I would grab another in a heart beat. This amp is going to go up in price when it catches on. Do some research on its channel and FX switching. Very useful and handy. For being a solid state amp, it catches the Fender tone GREAT. Easy 9.5 out of 10 in my book. Ive recorded with it as well with GREAT results. I run the PRE OUT to my computer and use Kemper IR's with it. I know people wont believe me, but it sounds as god as my AXEFX standard in the fender realm. Dont beileve me? give it a try and prove me wrong! Conclusion, one happy camper here.

This is an update of my earlier review. After several months with this amp, i've learned a few things....The tone controls interact with each other, meaning you can get a decent sound out of it, but no more. If you want some extreme tones (high treble, for example), there's no way to get them with these controls. Also, you can play gigs with the Champion 100, but you really have to crank up the volume to do so. If you have to dial it up past 7 to keep up with the rest of the band, you're overworking your amp. I think what they did was to give us a 100-watt amp that only puts out 50 watts acoustically (100 watts PEAK POWER, instead of RMS), and you need an extension speaker cab to get full power. Problem is, there's no extension speaker jack in the back of it for that purpose. At higher volumes, it's hard to tell the difference between 100 watts and 50 watts, and at bedroom volume 20 watts is loud. But if you have to dial up the volume of an amp to 7 or more to keep up, when all of your other 100-watters keep up at somewhere between 3 and 5, you've got a 50-watt amplifier, and that's what the Champion 100 is.......It's still a decent-sounding, portable, feature-packed amp that'll play smaller gigs with ease. But if you want full power, you're going to have to jury rig it somehow, or install a speaker jack........

Poor sound quality and low volume , look's ok but doesn't even have the power that my blue's jr. has and its 15 watt's. Not a good amp too make any recording's with.

Surprised and impressed with the tone quality!

Comments about Fender Champion 100 Guitar Combo Amp:

I was completely surprised by the warmth and tonality of this amp. I was looking for an amp with a lot of good clean head room as I'd be running my digital effect preamp thru it. I wanted to get a nice reliable solid state, and I liked the overall look of the Fender Champion, reminds me of a 70's Twin. When I plugged in I was blown away by the warmth and tonality both in the clean and dirty channel. The dirty channel was especially pleasing as I was able to dial in plenty of drive, again sounding very warm and "glassy" without getting muddy and gritty as most solid states are know for. The Champion is incredibly user friendly too. I had no problem dialing in great usable tone in no time. Now I'm finding that I prefer the tone of the amp to my preamp unit. Go figure. I would highly recommend this amp to any working musician looking for a reliable, good looking 2x12 combo. My only complaint is that there is no line out for an extension speaker cabinet. It would have been cool to pair this with a 2x12 cabinet.

Comments about Fender Champion 100 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been looking for a good solid state 2x12 combo for a while. I've used tube amps most of my life, but I wanted a good quality solid state for reliability. In addition to the Fender, I had been considering an Orange Crush. The Fender Champion is a little less than half the cost, so I figured what have I got to lose. I ordered the amp new, and it is incredibly user friendly. The thing I am most impressed with is the tone quality. It has the most warmth and true tube tone of any solid state I've ever heard. The clean channel has dimension and clarity, to my ear very close to a Twin. The overdrive is incredible as well. I was expecting sub par scratching, fake sounding solid state distortion. I was pleasantly surprised. The overdrive is very warm and harmonically dynamic (not muddy or scratchy). The amp even gave me some very authentic sounding tube feedback! Outstanding.

Not only does the amp deliver in the tone department, I found the effects very comprehensive, and easy to use. I had no problems dialing in my ideal clean and overdrive tones.

I also really like the look of the amp. Very cool 70's Blackface vibe.

Comments about Fender Champion 100 Guitar Combo Amp:

I have had this amp for almost a year now and I truly enjoy it. Its LOUD so be careful. I love the clean tones from the clean side of this amp with a touch of the delay, the tap button is great for customizing your sounds. I do tend to find myself using the 3rd setting (more distorted) on the Tweed / distortion side and have created some great vintage rock sounds. If you want to go crazy kick in the 2nd Metal setting for a more modern hard rock / metal sound. I am not a novice and own several other amps including a Marshall DSL100 which I also love. This is a great amp with some cool effects for a decent price.
