I've been playing guitar, mostly rock and blues, for about 50 years. I now play a Gibson Les Paul double cutaway pro with Burstbucker pro pickups. I have a Marshall MG50DFX amp...50 watts with a single 12" Eminence speaker...and it rocks pretty well. I was impressed until I tried out this little 15 watt Blues Jr. NOS. I tried out the regular Blues Jr. and this one side by side. I thought the NOS was beefier and better overall tone. Naturally, I baught it, took it home and tried it out next to the Marshall. At 5 on the volume, it blew the Marshall away full up. Plenty of overdrive. To me, you don't want so much distortion that your guitar sounds too muddy. This has excellent crunch and great harmonics. The Blues Jr. NOS holds a chord or note for MUCH longer than the Marshall did also. Light weight, great looks and killer sound. Buy this amp. Well worth the money. Anyone need a 50 watt Marshall out there?

Heads Up: This is a nice size amp for your home, and very light to carry, and easy to use. But, it is NOT what you hear in any web demos for the clean channel. The best clean settings is Master at "10" to "12" and the volume to "3" and no higher. You will notice very little to very poor sound below "3", and when you hit "3" the sound kicks in. But, over "3" instantly turns dirty with distortion. So, there is nothing from "1" to under "3" setting. There is a clean sound with very little, or non-existent sound people call the Fender creamy, warm, chiming Fender sound (Reverb on "3" or less). Nope, not there. You will need the bigger Fender amps over $1,000.00 to attain that sound. Yes, you will get clean single notes, but if you strum, it gets dirty, and do not have a heavy strum hand too - more dirty. I have read many reviews, and people say there is just not enough "Head Room" with the tubes for a clean sound. I have heard fantastic clean sound on many videos on the web, but I notice they all microphone the amp to a powerful PA system to get better clean sounds, and also very little to no strumming. Some people say you need to buy a modification kit, or try adding a Tube screaming pedal to clean it up. Wow, that is not realistic for me. In conclusion, if you seek that clean Fender sound, you will not get it with this amp. There always be a little dirty sound there. As I said, I viewed many web video and I even copied their knob settings to no avail. I wasted many hours for 10 days of testing this amp. No, it was not defective amp at all. Just not what is advertised for a clean sound. As, for me, I bought one, then after 10-days of frustration trying find that Fender clean sound, I returned mine and back to the store, and shopping again. PS: It does have a Master and a Volume knobs, which is a big advantage many tube amps do not have. I would like to hear back what other people found with this amp in their homes, and not modified, and not microphone to PA system.

Comments about Fender Blues Junior Lacquered Tweed 15W 1x12 Combo:

Excellent sound. This is the only reason I had a SECOND warranty replacement in six months. Not sure but it appears that a fuse blew in both cases just after switching on... about 2-3 months old in both cases. No warning of a problem before that. I treated both amps with kid gloves, both stayed in one place in studio. Since the blues junior has been around for so long, I can only guess that this was a bad production run.

A Marshall 15w tube amp and other components have run on the samepower circuit for over a year with no problem.

Comments about Fender Blues Junior Lacquered Tweed 15W 1x12 Combo:

Bought this for our son who plays rock/blues mix. He has played live with it mic'd with great success. Plenty of power. It was really bright for his style out of the box so we added an OCD overdrive pedal and now it rocks. He plays with a Gibson makes a great combination ZZ Top type sounds. Practices mostly in his bedroom has great low volume response and tone. A great all around budget friendly tube amp.

The amp is good for picking and solos, but not for strumming or playing chords, not the sound I am looking for the cleans are shrill.I have a standard USA Strat with stock fat 50 pups and a Ephi with classic 57 pups,no pedals, not willing to spend, the money for pedals for this amp, planning on buying the 65 DRRI and adding a modified 808 Ts tubscreamer, I believe that will suite my taste much better. The blues jr. great amp for the right person.

Comments about Fender Blues Junior Lacquered Tweed 15W 1x12 Combo:

I stopped into Guitar Center Allentown Pa. to demo the Tweed Blues Junior, and was VERY happy with what I found. Tested with a Gibson and a Telecaster. First if you are a player who uses your guitar volume knob to control your output, this is the amp for you. This amp has the traditional Volume and Master which lets you dial in the right amount of natural distortion (no clean/dirty switch). This amp absolutely has incredible tone, at club volume. Back off on the guitar volume to 60% for rhythm playing and you wont loose the highs. I was also surprised at what a great LOUD clean sound we got. The 12" Jensen is the perfect match because it is higher power than the black version, more efficient and does not Flub, if you turn the Bass all the way up. The 12AX7 pre-amp & EL34 Power tubes combination provide the right amount of power tube compression when running the amp at higher volumes. Power wise 15 Watts with the EL34 is between the 6v6 and 6L6, making this a great small to medium venue amp.
Features: "Fat" Switch has a Footswitch Jack for Remote "Fat" on/off,. Think of this as a LOUDNESS type of EQ, as it boosts the Low-mids as well as some1K to 4K, Reverb is a smooth cleaner/classic and great at 3-4, and the depth is crazy and useful if you want to go past that. Retro Chrome Panel is the traditional rear facing with Vintage Pointer Knobs, The controls, Volume - 6 to 8, Master (4), Bass (I run this at 9) Love having the Middle control, The Treble 5-6, "Fat" Switch off , The Lacquer Tweed finish with Pinstripe Grille Cloth is excellent. Weight is perfect for you club - gig guys, and put a 57 on it and you are good to go. Remember, always use good cables, like Georg L's or Mogami.
BTW, the demo went so good that a guy bought one right after.

Comments about Fender Blues Junior Lacquered Tweed 15W 1x12 Combo:

As a gigging musician, I'm tired of lugging my 1977 Fender Twin to every show. It's too heavy and often way too much amp for small venues. The blues junior is the perfect substitute and packs a serious punch. The tone is perfect! Easy to adjust and fills the room. I was very happy with the tone in the store when I demo'd it, but it has surpassed my expectations now that I have performed a couple of times with it. I haven't turned the volume above 3 and it fills any room and was also sufficient for an outdoor show at the park.

                Perhaps the perfect amp

                About Me Experienced

Comments about Fender Blues Junior Lacquered Tweed 15W 1x12 Combo:

The Fender BJR NOS is perhaps the perfect amp.
Have owned many many amps from old school solid state to modelers to big & small tube amps.
The Fender BJR NOS is perhaps the best all around amp (sound, looks, usability) of any I have owned or played. There are times when everything comes together in a perfect recipe and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts - this is one of those times.
Unless you are seeking metal or high gain tone (or want onboard features and effects), the BJR NOS should handle anything from jazzy cleans to gritty rock to even surf tones (with the beautiful reverb).
Aesthetically, the BJR NOS is beautiful. Great lacquered tweed vintage style at just the right size.
I own a Fender Bassman 59' reissue, Fender Superchamp XD, Fender 78' Musicmaster, Fender Vaporizer, Peavey Classic 30, Peavey Vyper 15, Crate Palomino V16, Bugera V22, VOX VT100 and a few more practice amps. While all of these amps are good in their own way, the Blues Junior NOS strips all the frivolous stuff away and just gives you pure tone. The next best amp IMO is the Bassman but then you have no reverb and cannot get to the natural gain without blowing your ears out due to its power.
Since the BJRNOS comes with the Jensen speaker, the tone is awesome so I would rather mike this amp rather than wishing it had a line out. No dual channel, no headphone out and footswitch only controls FAT feature (fat feature is great).
If you are looking for pure tone in a manageable package, the BJR NOS is the ticket. IF you need tone and volume and want to feel the power, go for the Bassman 4x10 59'. If you want 75% of the BJR tone with onboard effects, etc..the Superchamp XD or X2 are good too. For my money, the BJR NOS is the perfect amp.
