Fender's new and innovative Blacktop series expanded the sonic horizon of classic Fender guitars by powering them with high-gain humbucking pickups. That phenomenal Blacktop power and performance now comes to the bass world with a dual-humbucking-pickup version of the Precision Bass guitar.
Sleek and supercharged, the Blacktop Precision Bass guitar features two pummeling Blacktop Bass humbucking pickups that make it one of the most powerful basses—if not the most powerful bass—Fender has ever offered. Other distinctive touches are three Jazz Bass control knobs (volume for each pickup and master tone) and a Blacktop HiMass bridge. Features include an alder body, maple neck with modern C shape and gloss urethane finish, rosewood fretboard with 9.5" radius and 20 medium jumbo frets, three-ply black-white-black pickguard, open-gear tuners and chrome hardware.

Amazing bass! I bought the black version after going to guitar center and listening to various P-Basses, the added growl and aggressive tone made it stand out. This bass has amazing lows and the E-String is way lower and more aggressive than my previous bass. The bass has a fantastic midrange and this is where it's growl comes from as far a treble goes it has enough to sound well at the higher frets/strings without losing it's chunk.
I've had my Blacktop P-Bass for about a month now and I couldn't be happier with it. It plays great, feels terrific for my style of playing (relatively aggressive), handles heavy gauge strings very well (I normally use the top 4 strings from a 5-string pack), and talk about monster tone. This is the first instrument I've ever bought without first personally picking it up and playing it, and I'm glad that I wasn't disappointed. I figured, "Hey, it's a P-Bass, I'm sure it plays like lots of P-Basses I've picked up over the years. And with those electronics and price, it must be a great combo for me. And the black-on-black color scheme ain't a bad touch either!" Not only did it meet my expectations, it completely surpassed them. I'm incredibly satisfied with the chance I took on this bass, and I expect it will serve me well for a long time to come. For new and experienced players alike, you won't find a better, stronger, more versatile bass guitar for the price.
I recently ordered and purchased a Fender Blacktop P Base in White Chrome Pearl color from Guitar Center in Independance Missouri. The new Bass arrived in excellent condition without any issues. It sounds great, looks awesome, and is a pleasure to play. This is the first time I have ever ordered a Bass sight unseen, and I couldn't have been more happy that everything was cool right out of the box!
Absolutely love this bass. I figured it was time to get a Fender bass after playing Ibanez and Schector for the past 15 years and this guitar did not disappoint me. This bass was a great addition to my arsenal. It growls, it pops, and it has a big bottom. I highly recommend it. for the price, it is a steal.
I have had this guitar ( I bought the all black one ) two days ago. I am, very quickly mind you, falling in love with this guitar. I never touched this guitar before I bought it,but, when I saw this guitar online, I just had to have it. The tone from these Humbucker pick-ups is unlike any P Bass I ever heard before. Very Raw and Growling is the only way I can describe it. Not at all muddy in any way. I thought , the only thing that would improve this guitar, would be, to have an Maple fretboard instead of the Rosewood. The more I look at it . The more I like it. The guitar came in almost perfect playability. I, myself like a very light touch , but I only lowered the action ever so slightly. Only on the "E" string did I have to adjust for intonation. Hats off to Fender for developing such an Awesome Guitar. I am a Fender Player for life.
I ordered thru the website and had it shipped to the local GC. When I removed it from the packing I noticed that the action was high and the neck was bowed and the intonation was totally off. When I brought this to the attention of the store manager she took it to the guitar tech (Larry) at GC and he was very helpful, he stopped what he was doing and worked on the bass until it actually played like a fender should. Now, I am amazed at how this bass sounds. I have a couple of p-basses but this really doesn't sound like one. The 2 humbuckers have a really full bass and biting mids with plenty of high end. Sounds kind of like a jazz bass but no hum and more sound that really cuts thru with a live band. It doesn't sound like my Stingray.(kind of reminiscent of an old Gibson EB3, but better)I would say it has it's own unique Blacktop sound. I expect it is great in the studio also. I don't recommend shipping this item to your home unless you have the skills to set it up, because it arrived unplayable. I guess that's one of the differences between a MIM and a USA made Fender. But thanks to service at Guitar Center, this is my main bass now. Sounds great, Looks great, many compliments. I am giving it 4 stars because of fenders lack attention to the final details before shipping.
Awesome guitar with lots of kick and easy action. two sets of Humbucking pickups give it loads of power. Like the "no buzz" of the passive pickups. The finish on the body is ok, but certainly not top quality you would expect from Fender. The sound does tend to make up for that. For the money, I prefer the sound over looks.
