Comments about Fender Artist Series The Edge Strat Maple Fingerboard Electric Guitar:

Most YouTube videos about this guitar show someone playing Edge riffs from U2 songs. That's a shame -- because this guitar is so much more than that. It's simply the best feeling, best sounding strat I've ever played. And with its mint green pick guard and tinted neck against a black body - possibly the coolest looking strat as well.

The DiMarzio bridge pickup is more like a humbucker. It's loud and thick -- with none of the ear-piercing tone normally found in single coil start bridge pickups. And it compliments the Fat 50's pickups in the middle and neck position perfectly.

The neck seems slightly thicker than the standard strat - and with its satin back, it feels just perfect. The beefier neck - combined with the large headstock - make the guitar feel more substantial overall.

The previous reviewer mentions trouble with a microscopic screw to hold in the trem arm. Mine was set just right as the trem arm pops in and out easily - and holds its position perfectly.

If you're looking for a guitar that can be used for everything from vintage strat sounds all the way to harder rock - this could be what you've been looking for. Even if you're not a big fan of The Edge's music -- his guitar designing skills are undeniable.

Comments about Fender Artist Series The Edge Strat Maple Fingerboard Electric Guitar:

I've owned The Edge Strat for about 2 months. This guitar is a dream-come-true-Stratocaster not just for fans of U2, but for anyone looking for an extremely well designed, well built and "just right" Stratocaster.

Die hard Edge fans out there, note: this is NOT a tribute/replica of any The Edge's black Strats. While this guitar contains some of the ingredients of Mr. Evans' own Fenders, this particular guitar was newly designed by The Edge as his ideal Stratocaster; it's Edge's personal wish-list-Stratocaster, not a reproduction of any one instrument.

First, what I'm not crazy about: I prefer 22 frets. I have a lot of love for the smoothness and stability of the bridge, but I do not for the way the trem arm pops in and screws down via a microscopic screw on the trem block. Either allow me to screw it in, vis-a-vis standard Fender trems, or use a bushing like a Floyd Rose arm. Lastly, like most Fenders, it's setup with 9-42 strings from the factory. If Fender wanted to stay true to The Edge, they would have used at least a 10-46 suite. I use 10-46 on everything, so this guitar required an immediate setup.

Negatives aside (which were mostly personal preference), there is way too much to love about this guitar to not give it a serious look if you are shopping for an American Deluxe/Elite-range Stratocaster. My favorite aspect of it is the DiMarzio FS-1 bridge pickup. The FS-1 pulls off the feat of retaining signature Strat bridge sonics while dousing the unpleasant sizzle. The Fender Fat '50s in the neck/mid are my favorite Fender pickups (I have used them in several other guitars). The guitar has that "Goldilocks Zone" sound from neck to bridge. The bridge is incredibly stable and retains tuning very well with the help of the locking tuners. The high quality fit and finish of every aspect of this guitar is accentuated by the tank-like-yet-elegant black and gray tweed G&G case. Fender went above and beyond with this case.
