Best git-Fiddle for Blues...

By u-gotta-b-kiddin

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have a 93 or so Jap. reissue 57, a Hwy 1, and this model in 3 tone sunburst. I have also owned vintage Strats. This puppy blows them all out of the water. Out of the box setup, finish, neck size and shape, frets, satin backside of the neck, tone (the scooped mid-range was a brilliant idea - tone for days), sustain and playability, it's the tops baby! I've never been so satisfied with a Strat before and won't change a thing on the JM. On the Jap. I changed out the PU's to Noisless Fenders. On the Hwy1 I changed them out to SRV's (which is a must - those PU's are junk) and they wail. Upgraded all of the strings to 11s but this still stands head and chest above the rest. I'm now getting rid of the Jap. Strat - no place for it anymore. If you love the SRV style setup but hate the gold hardware like me - this is your baby. Not rediculous, just perfect. Oh by the way - I had a professional player friend of mine who is used to playing (and owns) Martins, PRS's and Strats as a guest for a week. He'd sit down and play, looking down, his head would start to move from side to side - I thought< oh no - there's a problem. He looked up and said, "Dude, I LOVE this guitar" then proceeded to play it non-stop for 3 hours. This went on for the entire time he was visiting. Nuf Said.

I've Found What I'm Looking For

By kaffenated

from Ausitn, Texas

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I could tell you about the specs on this guitar - but I won't. I could tell you about the materials/woods on this guitar - but I won't. I could tell you about the look and feel of this guitar - but I won't. In relation to what is really important - all of that seems so unimportant (although these do all add up to something which I believe is very magical). If you want that information, it is available; just look it up. What I will tell you is that for twenty years I've been playing guitar and never found that true connection between an instrument and myself. The missing connection is not for lack of trying - I have a home studio full of musical toys. With this guitar, I've found a connection that I can't explain - in retrospect, everything else has always been somewhat sterile. There is something magical that happens when you plug this into a tube amp. You know that guitar sound in your head - the one you want to make? This one does it for me. You know that sound you hear on all the records you love (but can never seem to reproduce)? This one does it for me. The things I want most; this guitar allows me to achieve. It is inspirational and gratifying. I have *never* felt this with an instrument before. It has always been a bit of a battle - in contrast, this guitar freely gives me all that beautiful tone I've been looking for. It makes *that* sound. I happen to believe John Mayer is a very talented guitar player - I'm not a big fan of his music; but his guitar playing and skill I admire and appreciate. I really wouldn't care if "Mickey Mouse" was on the headstock, I'd buy this guitar (again) in a heartbeat - it does the most important thing any guitar can be expected; which is to forget it is even there. Obviously, I highly recommend this guitar - but perhaps more importantly I want to say "Thank you John". I've truly found something which I've been looking for a very long time.

Like butter

By Willy Jack

from TX

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is played by one of the best guitarists in the world. Although I don't own one I have played with this guitar in a guitar center and to me this guitar feels like melted butter in your hands. It slides through your hands so smoothly and sounds so clean yet it can sound so dirty. It may just be that its my favorite artist in the world that plays this guitar but whatever it is this will be my next guitar that I get. If you haven't ever heard of John Mayer I would recommened for you to buy one of his Cd's and hear how incredibly talented this guitarist is.

One of the best Artist Series Stratocasters around...

By Ryan Alexander

from Salinas, California

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I own two of these gorgeous Strats. The first I bought was one in Shoreline Gold w/ the Racing Stripe back in Jan. 07. It was one of the first ones produced in '05, so I had a couple very fixable issues with it at first (fretboard a little uneven, hardware a little loose). But as soon as I got those little flaws fixed, that baby was ready to go. It's honestly one of the most versatile guitars I've ever played. It has the most pure, beautiful tone when played clean, and can really scream with some overdrive as well. Any effect pedal you throw at it, it will bring the absolute best out of it. I was so impressed with it, that a few months later, I went back to GC and picked one up in Olympic White. This one was made in '07, and everything on it was perfect. Fender made all the right adjustments to it during production. I can't say enough about this guitar. John Mayer can really design a guitar. Put this right next to his signature Martin acoustics, and you'll see some of the most beautiful guitars around. If you want an Artist Series Stratocaster, this is the one to get. The John Mayer Signature Stratocaster combines all of the standout features of the EJ Strat, the SRV Strat, and the EC Strat into one truly remarkable guitar.

The best Stratocaster made in the last 20 years, period.

By Paul

from Kansas City

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've been playing since I was 9 and as far as "new" guitars go, this is simply the best I have ever seen. I played at least 100 guitars extensively before I bought my J.M. Strat and none of them came close. The tone that bleeds from this guitar is an american institution. It can do anything. I use it to play blues, jazz and melodic instrumentals but I've used it to play alternative rock, hardcore and pop-rock. I can't possibly describe the tone in words, I just can't. Go up to Guitar Center and plug one into a Fender tube amp (I use a DeVille 4x10) and you will know that you have found your guitar. Every electric guitar enthusiast dreams of giving a piece of American art to their children in the form of a guitar. This is that guitar.

Best Strat for this price

By Chris

from Pleasanton, CA

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I walked into Guitar Center to check out some Les Paul guitars and while I was testing one out, I saw this guitar on a stand next to me so I picked it up and started playing it without plugging it to an amp. It felt awesome. The neck was bit "fat" but it just made it feel even better and the satin finish on the neck is perfect. 15 minutes later I was walking to my car with a new guitar. For those complaining about the price, go to the "Fender American Experience" site and build your own guitar there with these specs. The price would be close to $1900. That's what I was planning to do after visiting the Fender factory in Corona, CA until I found this guitar and fell in love with it. Another complaint I keep hearing is that it's a John Mayer signature model. Forget the name associated to it and just play the guitar on a tube amp and the let the Big Dipper pickups do the "talking". They sound amazing. At this price and this tone, I would buy this guitar, even if it would be a Yanni signature model (nothing personal against Yanni, just throwing a name out there).

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Great guitar, I am a fan of the Mayer sound, and this will help you get there. Its close to the SRV but not there. Shure they cost about the same, but this has the classic look to it, and once you start playing it you just don't want to put it down!

Fine Fiddle

By Grand Toad

from Inland Empire

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for two years. It has that great Strat vibe. Good frets, and a great finish. It really nails that old Strat quack. When I bought mine I had no intention of buying a "John Mayer" Strat. I got talked into trying it, and walked out with it. I didn't get it with the gig bag, I got a nice tweed case. Give it a whirl, you'll be surprised.

Exceptional Introduction to Electric

By S.P. Stellar

from Phoenix, Arizona

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have been a long time acoustic player and wanted to get into the electric world. The store clerk talked me into the John Mayer model and I couldn't be happier with the playability, smooth crisp tones and its ability to help play the blues, I would recommend this guitar to anybody who wants a quality guitar at a good price.

Amazing guitar, even without the name

By Kyle Brown

from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The string tree is FARTHER from the nut... just the way John requested it lol. This guitar all around feels outstanding, and the tonal range available with the big dipper pickups through a fender tube amp is outstanding. Get to a guitar store and play one of these, I'd recommend it to anybody looking to upgrade their strat.

Tweaked to Perfection

By IanSeine

from Porter Ranch, CA

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have had this instrument for one month and cannot believe the ease and feel this blues piece of gold truly is. This is definitely a blues lead guitar and the sound possibilities are unreal. I pulled this baby out of the case, plugged it in and within 30 seconds had it and the amp tuned into to the exact sound I am always looking for. I have a '65 Jag (another beauty), a limited series 84 Ovation, a Limited Series 89 Guild 12 acoustic/Electric and this Strat is hard to take out of my hands. Loving it!

It's a Strat

By MR. C

from PA

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for over a year now and I scallopped it. It still plays nicely, and sounds great. It sounds like a stratocaster, what else would you expect? Neck is a little on the thick side. Thats pretty much it. And it looks drop dead gorgeous.

Olympic White is Sick

By Jackson Kemp

from Columbia, SC

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The JM Strat is a sick guitar! The pickups on this guitar are amazing...and the locking tuners keep the guitar in tune for days. The neck is also plays like butter. NOTE: The Olympic White is a more faded white color than seen, and the pickguard is a mintgreen type color. The guitar is perfect for getting that sick BB King tone, and is the best for blues solos and lead work. Having said that it is also really good for chord play, such as for reggae as well as any other chord work. Overall: This is a great guitar, and anyone would love to have it. Is it worth the big price tag? I say yes...it inspires me to play and practice every single day. And its a sexy guitar too!

Pros

  • This is an all around feel good guitar

Cons

  • No cons on this beauty

Best Uses

  • This guitar will do anything you want

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this beauty right before Mr. Mayer left Fender and this was the last new one available. I Respect Mr. Mayer as a musician but have NEVER liked his music. So, to say the least I was apprehensive about even playing one of his signature guitars... but that soon dissipated once this baby was in my hands. I have been playing guitar for over forty years and spent half of that on one stage or another and am currently teaching guitar. I have yet to find this guitars equal... I have not seen or played a fender stratocaster this good in many, many years... This is the best one out of the other 10 fenders I own. I only wish fender would keep this level of quality on all there made in the U.S. guitars under 2k. This guitar has perfect weight, an excellent feeling fret board and even though it uses many of the same vintage style hardware it rarely goes out of tune. I have played dozens of custom shop stratocasters and find this one to be equal to them if not superior. I could not be happier with this guitar save one item...I am not a fan of the big dipper pups but that's an easy fix.

Great but expensive guitar

By MRD3k

from North Port, FL

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've played this guitar recently. It's something that I'd put on my wishlist, but not something Id buy with my current expenses. It sounds great and feels even better. I love the frets and the pickups sound great as well. It looks great in sunburst and the headstock logos are neat as well. If you have the money to spend, I encourage any fan of John Mayer to buy this instrument.

Love at First Sight

By Sharon Lavelle

from Springfield, VA

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

First off let me just say...John Mayer, you really now how to set up a guitar! I was fortunate enough to receive this beauty as a gift a couple years ago and it is THE BOMB! When I opened the case and saw this guitar, my heart skipped a beat because it is drop-dead gorgeous; I have the sunburst model. I was really impressed with the finish of the guitar, I love the amber finish on the neck and head-stock and the sunburst finish on the body is flawless. Let me tell you too that this guitar plays as good as it looks. There was no learning curve with this instrument, it felt natural from day-one, like a guitar you've had for many years that's been broken in. I use a Fender Frontman 212R, which is a really affordable and fantastic amp, and this guitar sounds great through it, though I imagine it would sound even better through a more expensive tube amp like the Fender '65 Deluxe. The tones this guitar can produce are really sweet. I use this guitar for blues, jazz, and southern style r&r. I'm sure this guitar could handle harder rock, but I use my Gibson V for that stuff. The only thing is that the whammy works more like a tremolo on this guitar, the springs are really tight and there isn't much give in the bridge, so no dive bombing; however, that's not really what this guitar is for anyway. On a side note, the case this guitar comes with is a molded soft-shell case that John Mayer uses and helped create. It is really durable, there are plenty of pockets, and it is just amazing; its like icing on the cake I just wish more of my other guitars could fit into it.

Beautiful instrument

By Brian Przystawski

from Louisville, KY

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a beautiful guitar. I purchased this from Guitar Center in November based on reviews only. They have never had this one before in the Louisville store. It was delivered direct from the factory. So, three months later I can say I do not regret my decision. I love this guitar. Very playable, looks and sounds fantastic. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a great instrument at a reasonable price.

Tone tone tone!

By Daniel Webster

from Kansas City KS

Comments about Fender Artist Series John Mayer Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've only played for 2-3 months, but I really really like John Mayer. I can't say enough about this guitar. My wife bought this as a surprise for me because she's awesome, and I was in love with it from minute one. Even though I'm still learning chords from my Mel Bay how to play guitar book, I know I'll be pumping out tasty riffs anytime soon. In all seriousness, this is a sweet axe. Anyone who's hating on it is only hating because they're too broke to afford it.
