Just a crazy great guitar in every way possible.

Comments about Fender Artist Series James Burton Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I've had my red flame burton tele for 6 months. As perfect a guitar as I've found in 50 years of playing. If I had to own just one guitar, this would be it -- hands down. Super versatile and addictive to play.

All pickup selections are great sounding. Yes, ALL of them. The neck pickup especially is my favorite in any tele (and I've owned many). These pickups tend to stay cleaner sounding when overdriven which make them easily cut through the mix. No matter what amp I plug into, the Burton Telecaster sounds clearly better than other single coil guitars.

The feel of this guitar is addictive. It has a perfect neck shape (a slightly deep c shape) being just a touch hefty but not quite fat/ big. The basswood body is middle weight 7.7 lbs.

You owe it to yourself to try this guitar. I've had so many costly custom shop and high end guitars in my life, and in the end this one is "it". I really could never go back to any other guitar. It's that good.

Best guitar in half century of playing

Comments about Fender Artist Series James Burton Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I've had many guitars, especially telecasters which are my favorite. The Burton tele is as near perfect as a guitar can be. Best neck pickup I've had -- super versatile from sparky to fat. The middle pickup is never weedy sounding (as they can tend to be) and sings sweetly when driven. The bridge pickup is clear and awesomely never shrill. I'd note these are particularly clean sounding pickups -- they will fatten up with overdrive but always retain a lot of their core sound. If you're a telecaster purist you will be surprised how well these non-telecaster-standard pickups do that tele twang. The tones, across the board, are to die for. (I play a clean amp, fender, and slight overdrive via Klon pedal, and that's all).

The neck shape is my ideal - a slightly Deep D shape that is not huge but it has some mass. The basswood body was a nice surprise -- love the way it rings when unplugged. (Note - Jeff Becks main Strat is also basswood body, and likely not by sheer chance). Setup: near perfect, but I raised the pickups a tad. Weight is not heave but not super light. Mine is 7.7 lbs. an they range from 7.5 to the low 8s.

Either you like the body flames or you don't. I didn't, but had to have this. They've grown on me in the 4 months I've had the guitar. I do wish there was a normal tele finish option with pick guard etc. But to be clear, even if the guitar had dog do-do painted on it, I'd still buy it.

After 4 months and many hours, I love this guitar more than any I've ever had (and wow there's been a lot). It's not even close to a tie. If I ever had have just one guitar, this would be the one, and with no remorse!

I'll say this about the artist signature fender guitars --- I've owned a Beck, two claptons, g.e. Smith, and others. I've owned custom shop items. They're all nice. But: Mr James Burton has designed a guitar that beats them all in tone and versatility. Hands down. This is a real steal at the $1600 price level

Been playing for years. I have many guitars but this is by far the best. The feel, sound and ease of play is unbelievable. The guitar is beautiful and flawless. When I am not playing it I am thinking about playing it. I don't need any others.

Comments about Fender Artist Series James Burton Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and own several other guitars. I have admired that "Tele sound" for years but had never played one. One evening, I was visiting my local GC and while waiting for my regular sales associate, another staff member saw me admiring an American Deluxe Telecaster and asked me if I wanted to play it. I said sure and I wondered, "this is great! What took me so long?" I did my usual careful research and discovered the James Burton Signature Telecaster. I thought WOW, this is it. I ordered the blue flame edition and it has been my workhorse ever since. Fast and smooth with a very wide range of single coil and humbucking tones via the S-1 switch. I play it through a Fender '65 reissue Twin Reverb and it is a match made in guitar heaven. If you like Telecasters, don't wait because this special edition probably won't be around much longer. You won't regret it.

Comments about Fender Artist Series James Burton Telecaster Electric Guitar:

If you're looking for a great guitar, BUY THIS! I have other high-line guitars (Les Paul, Gretsch, Rickenbacker), but the JB Tele is the best, and gets almost all my playing time now. The body is light and comfortable. The maple neck is simple and elegant, with a fantastic feel – the toughest leads are easier to play and sound better than on any other guitar I've ever played. The Lace Sensor pickups are fantastic – quiet (virtually zero hum) and responsive, with a range you can't believe. The five-position switch (with parallel sound in two positions) give you so many sonic options, you don't need another ax. Of course it can scream country twang and rockabilly, but it can also do a fine jazz guitar sound. Just great.

And the looks? Simply killer. I fell in love with in online, and it looks even better in person. When I picked it up, I opened the box and case, and at least 15 people in the store came over to fawn over it for ten minutes. My playing partners are in love with it, and feel the same as I do. If there's a cooler (or better) guitar out there, I can't name it, especially for this price. It looks jewel-like in some details, like the flame graphics that look six inches deep, the way the pickups blend into the look, to the beautiful neck, head and tuners. The ornate flames front and back are so, so sweet. If you're looking for a Tele, Strat, or just something truly unique and killer that can do everything extremely well, this is it. Buy it, and you'll be a "happy cat!"

Comments about Fender Artist Series James Burton Telecaster Electric Guitar:

This is what I wrote, recently, to a friend in an e-mail: A few weeks ago, completely as a result of impulse shopping, I bought a new James Burton Plus Telecaster, with the blue and gold artwork -- without even trying a showroom model, hearing it, or anything. I just felt confident in its heritage and designers. I am ever glad I did. I can't praise that guitar enough. Incredible tone and sustain, especially on string bends. Incredible stability in intonation ALL the way up and down the neck. Lots of variety in tone. Wow, wow, wow!

Comments about Fender Artist Series James Burton Telecaster Electric Guitar:

This is a solid guitar and you really can't go wrong. I'm not a huge fan of vintage frets. It isn't a flaw with the guitar but it is something to consider if you are used to bigger frets (which most people seem to prefer these days).

Also, I was hoping the pick ups would provide a more wide range of sounds. Overall, they are solid but they are pretty "clean" sounding. Not the same as the lace sensor pick ups that were used in the clapton strat. Again, not a flaw but these pick ups seem to resist distortion. But it is a tele, so that is to be expected, I guess. Overall, a great guitar. Played great right out of the box...

Comments about Fender Artist Series James Burton Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased one of these gorgeous instruments from Burton himself, and I am much more than pleased. The 5-way Strat-o-Tele lace sensor pickups make it sing like an angel and scream like a demon. This guitar is crazy versatile, allowing for a southern twang that will make Willie Nelson jealous or a breakdown so heavy that every metal head within 10 miles will come see what's up.
The neck on this guitar leaves nothing to be desired. The round neck is very reminiscent of an acoustic guitar (which I enjoy particularly) and the maple fretboard plays smoother than silk. The tuning machines are top notch, as well. No amount of harsh strumming or fierce bending will even nudge the tuning of this guitar.
Overall, the world-class workmanship, dumbfounding versatility, and spectacular performance of this guitar, make it worthy of any great musician.
