Overview

Experience the peerless Strat style of Slowhand himself with the Eric Clapton Stratocaster, one of our most acclaimed and enduring artist signature models. With classic design and special features that give it exceptional tonal versatility and effortless feel worthy of one of the world’s greatest names in rock and blues, it puts pure Clapton Stratocaster tone and feel straight into your hands.

Soft "V" Neck Profile

The "soft V" neck profile (the shape of the neck in cross section) on the Eric Clapton Stratocaster has a distinctly comfortable fretting-hand feel that takes the more pronounced sharpness of a ’50s "V" profile and "softens" it into a somewhat more rounded shape. Ideal for players with larger hands whose thumb extends over the edge of the fingerboard.

TBX Tone Control

The first tone control knob operates this guitar’s TBX (Treble Bass Expander) tone circuitry. The knob has a detent at the center position (5) and works like a normal tone control from zero to the detent. Turning the knob clockwise from the detent adds presence and brightness; turning it counterclockwise from the detent rolls off high frequencies.

Active Mid Boost
The second tone control knob functions as an active mid-boost control. Turning it clockwise boosts mid and bass frequencies while decreasing treble frequencies.

Blocked Tremolo
The Eric Clapton Stratocaster comes with an easily removable wood block installed between the tremolo block and tremolo cavity wall to keep it from moving, as specified by the great guitarist himself.

Urethane Finish
Urethane guitar body finishes are especially strong and durable, and will hold colors with great vividness, sheen and clarity for extraordinarily long periods.

9.5 in. Fingerboard Radius
The fingerboard radius is an important spec that describes the amount of curvature across the width of the fingerboard. This instrument’s modern 9.5" fingerboard radius is slightly more flattened than a vintage-style radius, but still with enough arc to provide a natural and notably comfortable fretting-hand feel, and to make bending notes easier.

So I've had this guitar for a few months now and figured it was time to write a review. I had gone into my local Guitar Center with the intent to look at and possibly purchase either a Highway One or American Standard, as an upgrade to the hotrodded MIM Strat I was currently playing. So I try out a Highway One, and was really not impressed, it neither felt nor sounded any better than my MIM. I tried a couple of different ones and didn't really like any of them. Same with the American Standards. So I see this Blackie hanging on the wall and I say to the sales guy "lemme see that Clapton Strat for a second" Well let me tell you, this thing played and sounded awesome from the start. Action was perfect, neck felt great, pickup response was great, and tone was absolutely fantastic, especially in the bridge/middle position - that classic Clapton sound. Of course I buy it, and now that I have gigged with it about a dozen times, it is my main stage guitar. It just has that "bite" that is awesome for playing live and the boost and TBX are nice features as well. But overall I like this guitar because it is comfortable to play and sounds great. The noiseless pickups are nice - I play through a Peavey Valveking half stack with a Boss OS-2 pedal on the clean channel and the guitar is dead quiet at all gain/distortion levels. One thing to note is that it comes with the tremelo blocked, but for me this was no big deal, I don't use it anyway.

When I got this unplayed Clapton signature guitar in '7up' Green....Tweed case...Looked beautiful BUT the finish was appalling. And I mean appalling. It had not been set up and the lacquer on the neck (Fretboard, back to head stock had NOT been rubbed down/cut back!! I spent hours fibishing this what should have been one of Fender's finest. What happened to this one, God only knows. Clapton would be mortified to put his name to it!!! It was worse than any of the Squire/Mexican Far Eastern Strats I have played. Fender you owe me!!! Shame on you!! After many hours finishing it, it is now the guitar it should have been.....and is fantastic, but spending this money for such poor quality made me realise in guitars, as in many retail goods, you pay a premium for the name. I am now more open minded.....Just because it has Fender or Gibson does not mean you get what you pay for. I would now rate this signature Strat 5 star but I shouldn't have had to spend hours finishing/setting up!! This is a proper 'Made in Corona, Calif, 1992......Serial number correct etc. Great pickups, but boy, Fender you owe me and to put Eric's name on it!!!!!!! I bet this reviews doesn't get put on this site!!!

Blues Rock Clapton Classic!!

By txbluesfan

from Texas

Comments about Fender Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought mine used ( 1991 black model)with all the stock lace senors and mid boost and TBX. so i dont know as much about the vintage noiseless but i've played them before in store and they are nice, may have to switch out. before some post remarks about it not having this or not having that feature.. jumbo frets, s-1 switching, locking turners, cheap pickguard..ect.look at what this great little guitar is. It's a tweaked copy of Clapton's favorite strat BLACKIE. with some upgragdes!! BLackie was getting old and hard to maintaine on the road. and he was missing that thick tone of his old Les Paul sound, but didnt want the hassle of changing guitars every other song strat to LP and LP to strat.. he told fender i love the feel of blackie's neck its my favorite shape, when i am in the middle of a blues and i've got the strat on i am thinking aw man i wish i had the Les Paul.and then when i'm playing the LP i the sound will be great but i will be thinking i wish i had blackie's neck. So i am always looking for a happy medium. well here it is. you want a classic vintage strat tone with clapton's famous V neck. and for the times when a thick Les Paul drive is your thing roll the 2cd tone knob to 10 and your set just the way Clapton wanted his

Most Comfortable/Versitile Strat EVER

By Mr. M

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Fender Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Do yourself a favor and buy this guitar. From the first plug-in the neck feels so familiar; the tone possibilities are endless and at your fingertips. The boost knob is awesome and can give you that extra "dirt" you might need for a solo. Guitar works great with effects and wah. This axe might not have "Custom Shop" stamped on the headstock, but it blows the more expensive Strats away by miles. Clapton's signature is all the proof you need.

Blues Deluxe

By mr.fish

Comments about Fender Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar, not knowing what I was getting myself into. The noiseless pickups are very crisp sounding. I think the pickups sound best with an Ibanez TubeDriver or a Boss BluesDriver. The second tone knob controls the active mid-range boost, this makes switching from a lead setting to a rythm setting very, very easy. If you want to have the classic tones of "slowhand" from Layla, to I shot the sheirf, or from Have you ever loved a woman, to Stormy monday, this is the guitar you have been looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great sound and Great Power

By dabucci78

from Greenville, NC

Comments about Fender Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The Fender Clapton Stratocaster has been my favorite guitar purchase of all time. I own plenty of guitars and this gives me the best range, power, and sound. Whether distorted or clean, the Clapton Strat sounds smooth and strong. When the tone knobs are turned to 10, the axe gives a solid classic "crunch" to your playing. I thoroughly enjoy playing with the smooth action and solid feel of the Strat. This certainly is THE specimen of guitar perfection.

Only Fender worth Buying

By djguitarist

from Atlanta

Comments about Fender Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I haven't been playing especially long, but when I started I knew I wanted to at least start playing blues. I worked at GC at he time and must have played 50 guitars to try and find something that fit and I really wanted either a strat or a tele to be it. They all felt like garbage and I ended up with an Epiphone SG (I got lucky...sounds amazing unplugged and I re-did all of the electronics when I got it home). I played this strat and between the circuitry and the shape of the neck, I honestly believe it's the only fender I'll ever spend money on. I actually went that day to try and find a TC-90 or thinline tele with a neck closer to Gibson's shape and pulled this off the wall as a curiosity. It was amazing. I spent the next 2 hours playing it through an AC30 reissue. The sound is amazing...that beautiful glassy tube overdrive that's amazingly controllable with the TBX/mid-boost...the gorgeous neck...there's nothing not to like that matters. I'm going to buy one as soon as I get a chance to go in and play every one they have to see if one in particular speaks to me. Seriously, I've played strats from '56 to '07, from the $400 mexi standard strats to $30,000 vintage custom shop models and this is the only one I'd spend a dime on.

One ace axe

By NATHAN PREUSS

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Fender Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I saved a long time to buy I high quality strat and I don't regret that decision. It was definitely worth the wait. There's no substitute for playing these guitars yourself and deciding which has the best features for you within your budget. If you're brand new to playing, a less expensive model probable makes sense. Once you've been bitten by the guitar bug and know it with you for life, you'll want to save for a quality instrument. The active mid boost and TBX deliver tonal versatility as advertised. But the feel of the guitar when you hold it was what struck me most in the store. You hold it and it feels so good you won't want to let go. It comes with a very high quality tweed hard case. I don't mind saying that I shed a tear or two when I first opened the case and saw my Olympic white strat lying there. Sure this review may be a little emotional and corny, but then doesn't every love story begin that way?

Really Great Stratocaster

By Ross Whitney

from Irvine, CA

Comments about Fender Artist Series Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar. Like everyone says, it's exceptionally versatile, and the bridge single-oil is probably the first really useful one I've come across on a strat. I've owned several different ones over the years, including a 1968 I purchased in 1972. Recently had a master built Custom Shop strat for about a year, and that was a real treat, too. If there's anything I'd like to try is a CS version of this model. The soft-V neck is perfect, I like the medium narrow frets, the mid-boost adds some drive, and fattens up the tone, making the 1&2 positions great for aggressive rock distortion that cuts through the mix but is still full sounding. The TBX tone control is good for adding some top end back when using the mid-boost, otherwise I don't usually use it. The noiseless pickups are perfect for clean recording and use in proximity of computers, which was a problem I had with my Custom Shop strat. I unblocked the tremolo because this is my only start, actually the only guitar I own that even has a tremolo bridge so I wanted to have that available. It's easy to take out the little wwod block and set up yourself. As is, the setup was fine, fret dressing no problem. I'd like a darker tone fretboard, but I don't really mind the light color as is. I've tried a lot of strata at GC and this was my pick of the production line models. I like some of the vintage reissues and the Eric Johnson signature model, but the Clapton is the one to have if you only have one.
