Overview

Chicago punks Alkaline Trio jumped in on the design of what must be one of Fender's most distinctive acoustic guitars ever-the Artist Design Series Alkaline Trio Malibu Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar. The instrument takes the classic '60s-era sun-and-fun Malibu folk-style acoustic and dresses it up with a graceful heart-shaped rosette designed by the band, as seen gracing the cover of 2011 acoustic album Damnesia.

Premium features include a richly resonant all-mahogany body with the aforementioned AT-designed heart-shaped rosette, scalloped X bracing, C-shape maple Stratocaster neck with a 20-fret rosewood fretboard, body and neck binding, rosewood bridge with synthetic bone compensated saddle, chrome hardware and gloss neck and body finish.

Features
  • Laminate mahogany top
  • Laminate mahogany back and sides
  • Scalloped X-bracing
  • 25.5" Scale maple Stratocaster neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • 20 frets
  • Alkaline Trio-designed heart rosette

I first bought this guitar on impulse. After playing it for a while I decided it was an impulse buy, I did not need it, and brought it back. After a month I got a request to perform at a party, and realized this was the perfect guitar for the occasion. Small, big sound, really unique looking, easy to transport (but it does not come with a case or gig bag) and actually a pretty good players guitar. So I bought another one. Before I bought the second one I found that many of the guitars advertised do not come with electronics. The first one I purchased came with factory electronics. I called Fender and they could not determine if there were two different models. No info whatsoever. So I shopped around and found some come with electronics and some don't. I found one with electronics locally and picked it up. Sounds full and is easy to dial in. Comes with bass, middle and treble controls. Not to mention a volume dial, and built in tuner. Action was bit high. Needed to shave down the bridge saddle just a little and adjust the neck. Very happy with this guitar.

I purchased this guitar for my young adult daughter as a Christmas gift. shes a petite girl so I thought the smaller size would be good for her. This guitar is VERY beautiful,I especially liked the heart shaped cut out, however it is very small. It seems to be meant for a child. She will be returning it, a getting a slightly larger guitar.

Great guitar!

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Alkaline Trio Malibu Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This is a super cool guitar. I love the smaller size and I was amazed at the big sound that comes out of this thing. Everyone who saw it asked if they could play it and just loved it. Cool vintage tuners and touches all over it. At the price point just a sweet guitar.

Completely in love with this guitar

By Mariah Maggiacomo

from Providence RI

Comments about Fender Artist Design Series Alkaline Trio Malibu Mahogany Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I am a huge Alkaline Trio fan so as soon as I saw this guitar I knew I had to have it. It is considerably smaller then most guitars, but as a small girl with shorter arms it feels like it was made for me. When I first played it I thought it sounded a bit twangy for my taste but once I replaced the strings it sounded much smoother. Out of my four guitars this one is my baby and the one I play the most.

Bought this as a birthday gift for my son's 17th. He is an A3 freak and worships Skiba. He was beyond thrilled and I was very impressed by the look, feel and the sound. It's a gorgeous instrument for the price.

Aside from its beautiful design, the sound is rich and the strings are comfortable on my fingers. No complaints! I'm a novice and I've tried almost all the guitars out in the store and this one is perfect for this 5'1" lil ol me :)
