Overview

From the garage to the club to the stadium, the American Standard Telecaster is the same great best-selling go-to guitar it always has been, and now it's upgraded with a comfortable new body contour and classic-sounding Fender Custom Shop Twisted Tele (neck) and Broadcaster (bridge) pickups. The latest incarnation of a truly timeless classic, it rings more fully, brightly and crisply than ever.

The look, sound and vibe of the Telecaster resonates throughout the history of popular music. From orchestra pits to mosh pits, small clubs to stadiums and garages to recording studios, its signature sound is everywhere. The American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard has hand-rolled fingerboard edges, Custom Shop pickups, staggered tuning machines, improved bridge with bent steel saddles mounted to a stamped-brass bridge plate for increased resonance and sustain, tinted neck, high-gloss maple fingerboard, satin-finished neck back, thinner finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance, and Fender Tolex case.

I love Fender Telecasters and it would have been nice if I had received what I ordered. It took longer for this guitar to arrive than the other guitar that I ordered the same day. When I called to find out what was the hold up I was told that they were still trying to locate one. Um??? When the guitar finally arrived the first thing I noticed that it was in the wrong case. I was sent a guitar that had been hanging on the wall in some store and had a few signs of wear, including a pretty good sized ding in the neck. No paperwork or any of the listed accessories were included inside the case. I did however receive items that are not for the guitar I received. When I called I was told to contact the store that shipped the guitar. When I called the store they told me to contact GC online. Once again, I contacted GC online and was told that it was an issue with the store that sent the guitar. I called the store again and was told the only way they could help me was if I brought the guitar to them. I explained that the guitar was shipped to me and that I could not bring it in. After much frustration I gave up and just accepted that I bought a used guitar instead of a new one.

Sweet Guitar

By steve mcqueen

from San Antonio TX

Comments about Fender American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

I purchased the crimson red transparent w/maple fretboard four months ago and couldn't be happier. I've never been a fan of the color red. The shade of crimson w/the ash grain coming through is stunning. For electrics, I own Fender strats and teles, exclusively. I've been paying for 40 plus years and on occasion I've heard Gibson players say "Fender's are hard to play." Try the 2013 American Standard Telecaster...it'll change your mind.

A stellar guitar!

Comments about Fender American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

This is a tele. Need I say more? I just purchased the 2012 a couple weeks ago and I am very, very, very happy with it. It is what it is and always has been - a reliable, solid, great sounding piece of musical equipment! I highly recommend picking one up.

Limited Edition Bliss

By Dr. William B. Brice

from WEST CHESTER PA

Comments about Fender American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

Being a drummer it was difficult to pick out a guitar to start down the road to strumming bliss. Why take a chance? I decided to buy an American Telecaster...and it was a limited edition, how great is that...and the price at GC was fantastic. I am enjoying the chord learning and playing(learning) on this well made, beautiful piece of professional instrument. Buy the American Standard...you cannot go wrong.

Nice Piece

By JACK VON THAER

from Alaska

Comments about Fender American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

E. Gackstatter from the Seattle GC set me up with a natural, maple neck 2012 Tele. He really worked for me---REAL service! My guitar is a work of art. I am running it through a 94 Peavey Classic 50, and, with these pick-ups, I can dial in just about any sound out there. A solid American beauty.

Great Find!

By Stephen Olszewski

from Emeryville CA

Comments about Fender American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

I picked up and AST with a beautiful ash body and maple neck about a month ago. I've had a chance to play it in a bit, travel with it, and record with it. I really love the tones that come out of both pickups. These custom shop pickups really sing, especially the twisted tele pickup in the neck. I've had a few issues with tuning, but I did adjust the neck so this may just be a little settling in. Sound from the pickups is surprisingly even in the middle position. I had to adjust the pickups slightly and found that these pickups are really sensitive to height adjustments. if you are not getting the sound you want, try adjusting the pickups before looking for 3rd party stuff. Great projection - the ash and maple combo makes even a finger attacks snap and cut through. The flip side of this is that this guitar is extremely honest and unforgiving. It will expose every click and scrape and muffed note very clearly. I love that, it makes me play better, but YMMV. The only real issue I've had is with the extra-thin urethane finish. I've already had a couple of flakes come off on the curved belly. I don't really mind, I think it just adds character, but be forewarned, and check the finish carefully before purchasing, if you care about such things. I think that this is a well balanced, bold, brilliant guitar that does everything well, and have to recommend it wholeheartedly.

Wow!

By steve young

from Thousand Oaks, CA

Comments about Fender American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

After 25 years of playing cheap knock offs of Fender guitars, I decided it was time in my life to buy the real thing. Wow, what an incredible instrument. The neck action is flawless right out of the box and the tone and sustain from the Ash 2-tone sunburst model with the new pickups is incredible. Throw in a little distortion and gain on your amp and we are talking Les Paul territory from the middle position. Played clean from the bridge pickup this baby has that unmistakable Tele twang. The new carved back on the 2012 model now makes the Tele just as comfortable as a Strat. This seems like a small thing, but it is the single biggest reason I never jumped in on the Telecaster until now. It is an incredible improvement. Can't believe Fender waited 60 years to make the Telecaster comfortable to play. You will just flat out love this guitar. PS - Play this thing through Fender's new Mustang III amp and you can literally make it sound like any guitar in the world. I am now kicking myself for waiting so long to become a true Fender disciple. Once you jump in, you pretty much get why they have had a 60 year run in the electric guitar biz.

Guitar Wonder!

By Pat Rondeau

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Fender American Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

First, I have say that I am not really a "tele" guy, but this guitar is great! The initial setup of my guitar was very good. I only needed to make small changes to my preferences. Unlike older teles, this guitar comes with an adjustable maple neck that allows you to adjust its tilt as well as the bow. With the custom shop pickups that are on my 2012 tele, it sounds great! And, to top it off, the paint work on the body is a wonder! However, you should know that many of the available colors are very hard to find in the GC stores. I don't know why, but you can get all of the colors online.

It's a Fender American Telecaster, what else could I say but it's awesome. Very nice playability. Awesome tone. Very versatile guitar. I will not compare this guitar with my Gibson guitar, their both awesome but different guitars. Gibson LP and Fender Tele are my favorite. Ok, going back to Fender Tele, all I can really say is buy this guitar, it's an investment. Don't settle for less. You will not regret this.

Great guitar. Not many complaints. First and foremost the pickups are beautiful. The neck is very Strat like sounding. Not the usually muffy muddy Tele pickup. The rear pickup reassures you there is a telecaster in your hands. Fit and finish is what an American Standard is supposed to be. My only gripe is the modern bridge. The feel is wrong. The saddle adjusters will dig into your palm. To anyone out there knocking a guitar cause of fret buzz, all guitars need adjustment.
