I have been playing guitar for 34 years. I have a 1987 Fender '62 American Vintage Reissue Stratocaster that I absolutely love. I have never had any luck finding a really good "Strat" until I found that one. BTW, it just happened to be the 7th Strat I owned. I sold all the others each time I thought I found a better one. I really wanted another Stratocaster but again I couldn't find one that "felt right". I went to Guitar Center for my 45th birthday and played the "New" 2012 Fender American Standard Stratocaster White with Maple Neck and Gold Anodized Pickguard. I am super impressed with Fender's quality and attention to detail. They are also very easy to reach by phone or e-mail should you need help which is a big plus. The staff at Guitar Center were great and made me feel right at home. Now the guitar is just perfect in every way. It plays great, it sounds great, and I can't find even one flaw. I set it up with .10 - .46 Nickel Bullets and applied Big Bends Nut Sauce to the nut and bridge. The guitar stays in tune even when using the tremolo or vibrato bar which has always been the main issue for me. In addition to sounding and playing great, I get a lot of comments on how beautiful my guitar is and I agree. The 2012 Fender American Standard Stratocaster is a total home run. I am super picky so trust me these models are truly great guitars. I love mine and would not hesitate to buy another one if I ever needed to. I read a review that said the Custom Shop Pickups are a 50's through back and not modern. Well, I called Fender and asked them about the pickups and they assured me they are indeed a modern pickup with a modern design. Fat 50's is just the name they chose. Anyway the middle pickup is reverse wound to cancel hum at positions 2 and 4 and the second tone control has a slight detent around 9 and when set to 10 the circuit is bypassed and you get a hot straight signal. They call this a "No Load Potentiometer". If you want a really good "Strat", go to Guitar Center and check these out!!

I opened the case and it smelled of paint. I have fret buzz on the low E and A strings between the 9th and 12th frets. Also a dead spot on the high E string on the 14th fret. I took it to my luthier, he told me that the frets were so high on the low E and A strings between the 9th and 12th fret that the only fix was fret leveling. I am not going to pay for that on a new guitar, so I am returning it. I bought a new 2012 American Standard two years ago and the quality was excellent. Very disappointing that the quality has slipped that much in just two years. The blue color is outstanding.

The new lady in my life

By Tim

from Las Vegas, NV

I picked up a 2014 American Standard Sienna Sunburst Strat and I love it. It's beautiful and fun to play. I've always been a humbucker kinda guy but it's great to broaden my tonal capabilities. I've been very happy with her. Swing by your local GC and check one out for yourself. Nuff said. I'm logging off to go play my purdy new Strat.

Amazing Guitar

By Dustin Asbury

from Fairfax, VA

This is my 6th guitar (2nd American, also have a Am Std SG)and let me tell you right now, its amazing. I picked up the white with maple and swapped the all white pick guard out for a mint green one which matches perfectly with the upgraded aged plastic, its beautiful. I was tempted to buy an Am Stnd Strat off of Ebay because you can find them brand new for a couple hundred dollars cheaper than Guitar Center. However, holding it, playing it, seeing it in person made me much more comfortable spending that much money. Also, the guys at my Guitar Center in Fairfax, VA are so legit. I probably spent 3 hours trying different MIM Strats, used Les Pauls, everything... without any hassle. Its also nice to know if I ever have an issue I can take it right back into the shop. This all together makes it easily worth the extra money you would save from buying elsewhere online. The neck is like a stick of butter, the PUPs scream, the look is classic. What else do you really need in life?

Gotta love Fender

By Mark Giacalone

from Los Angeles, CA

I had a Gibson Les Paul Jr for quite awhile - rocks hard but is a one-trick pony tonally. For quite some time I have been wanting a Stratocaster for the music I am playing nowadays. Sold the Gibson, went to GC with my mind made up of getting a MIM strat and later buying all new electronics (pickups, pots, etc) for it. After playing all the MIM strats they had, I tried the American standards. The MIMs played very well in my opinion, but the American standard was just a cut above. I left with an American standard. Been playing it for weeks now. Absolutely love the tone and feel. No pickup upgrades necessary - this guitar is perfect as is. Best choice I could have made.

Not quite 5 Stars but very close.

By WILLIAM SMITHEY

from Sacramento, CA

The local Guitar Center only had one American Standard (used) to play but that was enough to send me off to the web site to buy one. Took the 15% off and "recycled" it into the Sienna Sunburst Finish - with Maple Fingerboard. Great finish and look. So it looks great, the finish is outstanding, and it sounds even better. Great pickups with just a bit of hum when one is chosen but none with any two. Position 2, bridge and middle gives that "only on a Strat sound". Kick in the hyper treble (my term, not Fender's) and there isn't another guitar I've played that has that sound - it may not be a sound from the past but it's a classic for a reason. With 3 pickups, 5 switch positions and plenty of tone control, there are lots of tone left to find. Mine could and should have been set up better. But I say that about every guitar, electric and acoustic, that I buy new. I don't fully understand paying a decent amount of money for a well assembled guitar with good electronics and a great finish gets has to be sent off to a luthier to be truly playable. That's why 4 stars. If the strings weren't nearly a quarter inch off the neck at the final fret, it would be a solid 5.

Incredibe value for money guitar

By Gaston Ruiz

from Buenos Aires

I bought a 2012 american standard strat in sienna sunburst about a year ago an it really is an amazing guitar. As soon as i picked up the guitar in guitar center to try it out, i tested the trem. In my opinion, the trem is the best feature that this guitar has to offer. It stays in tune perfectly! I dont have to tune this guitar for months. However, when i bought the guitar, i restrung it with .010s and straight away, the trem was not staying in tune. I later realized that it was because the nut of the guitar is cut specifically for .09s. This caused the strings to catch and therefore go out of tune. The next time i restrung it, i put .09s on and the trem now functions perfectly. If you want to put .010s on it, you have to modify the nut so its set for .010s. Fortunately, this isnt a flaw of the guitar, it was just my mistake. Anyways, in my opinion, this is the best guitar you can get for the money, the neck is very fast, the frets are very tidy and well done, and the sienna sunburst is just stunning. In my opinion its the best finish that fender has to offer. The sienna model also has an ash body which has a lovely grain and is very light. The overall finishing of the guitar is flawless. The only thing i would change on this guitar, is the stock tuners for locking tuners. The stock tuners are still great and stay in tune though. The pickups are also incredible. Im able to get the classic stevie ray vaughan tone very accurately. The pickups have a lovely clear tone when you used the totally clean. Overall, this is by far greatest guitar i have ever owned.

2012 Fender American Standard in Arctic White

By Neal Gold

from Baltimore, MD

I waited more than a year to write a review that avoids the honeymoon flush of emotions. This is what I'd like to know if I was a working musician who's never before played a standard Strat to any basic extent: I used to take three, sometimes four guitars to gigs. Now I just take two--an acoustic-electric and my Strat. This is an obvious testament to its versatility in terms of tone, genre of music, and portability. If you have a well-designed and flexible amp--mine is a 60W Fender Concert (designed by Rivera) for example--you can dial almost ANY tone out of it, even without a Boss rig, for example. The most difficult tone is a jazzbox humbucker, but it gets REAL CLOSE, please believe me. One final point: The tuners are tremendously accurate, stable and reliable. Nothing stinks more than going out of tune during a performance...you just can't stop and retune, and string bending just doesn't QUITE hack it if you're doing any kind of rhythm chord work...never had any issues like this with my American Standard. I know I may be offending the Gods of the Guitar here, but, seriously...after having played for more years than I care to remember, I prefer this Strat over any Gibby LP I've ever played. The polyurethaned maple neck ALONE seals the deal for me.

Ups the Game a Notch

By Bill Olander

from Bloomingdale, IL

Beautiful fit and finish with a quality set-up right out of the box. With a little bit of adjustment to the switching and control knobs many classic intonations from songs past come sounding out. The action is conducive to flowing play whether deliberate or blazing. Great balance and weight that makes it easy to play for extended periods. This guitar is everything that the legend of the Strat would have a person expect. This guitar is best suited for rock, blues, jazz, and country music. Folk, blue grass, classical, and some slide music are best left to other styles of guitar construction that produce a less hard sound.

A Proud Owner!

By Susan Straup-Bell

from Urbandale, Ia

I bought this 2012 model w/fat 50's and couldn't be happier. I was looking for my first quality guitar and was considering several acoustic models. I sat down at guitar center and played an american strat w/blues jr and my decision was made. The specials that GC were offering helped make my choice even easier. Every guitar player should have a strat in their collection. Mine needed a set-up but thats not surprising to me. Getting your guitar set up is a good idea anyway. The maple fret board feels so nice to play on and the two tone sunburst is very nice on the eyes. Go get ya one and feel the pride of owning an American Legend!
