I have been playing guitar for 34 years. I have a 1987 Fender '62 American Vintage Reissue Stratocaster that I absolutely love. I have never had any luck finding a really good "Strat" until I found that one. BTW, it just happened to be the 7th Strat I owned. I sold all the others each time I thought I found a better one. I really wanted another Stratocaster but again I couldn't find one that "felt right". I went to Guitar Center for my 45th birthday and played the "New" 2012 Fender American Standard Stratocaster White with Maple Neck and Gold Anodized Pickguard. I am super impressed with Fender's quality and attention to detail. They are also very easy to reach by phone or e-mail should you need help which is a big plus. The staff at Guitar Center were great and made me feel right at home. Now the guitar is just perfect in every way. It plays great, it sounds great, and I can't find even one flaw. I set it up with .10 - .46 Nickel Bullets and applied Big Bends Nut Sauce to the nut and bridge. The guitar stays in tune even when using the tremolo or vibrato bar which has always been the main issue for me. In addition to sounding and playing great, I get a lot of comments on how beautiful my guitar is and I agree. The 2012 Fender American Standard Stratocaster is a total home run. I am super picky so trust me these models are truly great guitars. I love mine and would not hesitate to buy another one if I ever needed to. I read a review that said the Custom Shop Pickups are a 50's through back and not modern. Well, I called Fender and asked them about the pickups and they assured me they are indeed a modern pickup with a modern design. Fat 50's is just the name they chose. Anyway the middle pickup is reverse wound to cancel hum at positions 2 and 4 and the second tone control has a slight detent around 9 and when set to 10 the circuit is bypassed and you get a hot straight signal. They call this a "No Load Potentiometer". If you want a really good "Strat", go to Guitar Center and check these out!!

I opened the case and it smelled of paint. I have fret buzz on the low E and A strings between the 9th and 12th frets. Also a dead spot on the high E string on the 14th fret. I took it to my luthier, he told me that the frets were so high on the low E and A strings between the 9th and 12th fret that the only fix was fret leveling. I am not going to pay for that on a new guitar, so I am returning it. I bought a new 2012 American Standard two years ago and the quality was excellent. Very disappointing that the quality has slipped that much in just two years. The blue color is outstanding.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

First, I have to say I love this guitar. I started my Fender journey by purchasing a Telecaster a few years back which I really enjoy but my music roots are deep into the classic and 1980s rock with recent interests in Blues. With that in mind, I eventually had to get a Strat but the problem was which one.

I spent pretty much a year looking and trying models because I wanted my Strat to be a keeper. After trying just about every Mexican model and some signature lines I always came back to the American Standard. The tones, workmanship and feel are what sold me. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about the Mexican models...they are great guitars. I just didn't get the setup I was looking for out of them. It always came down to one thing or another. The neck was a V or the pickups were not what I was looking for or the frets were jumbo. The American had the exact specs I was wanting.

The neck is sweet with great play-ability and the pickups are custom shop fat 50s. This is a true Strat with authentic Strat sounds. The clarity and tones that you get are what sets this guitar above the Mexicans for me. Finish and hardware are extremely nice and solid. I really didn't want to drop $$$ on a guitar but it was well worth. No disappoints to speak of...just wish I had more time to play it.

very poor quality components and wood

      • That "strat" Sound

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

Incredibly disapointed with the quality of this "american" fender strat. 3 of 6 tuners are junk and cannot be adjusted to hold a tune. Wood body has cracks. 3 of 6 tone switch positions are very noisy, cable jack constantly comes loose and is noisy. The $75 Squier Strat I have set up just for slide playing has better quality hardware! I've been playing for over 40 years and have owned 8 guitars and played probably close to a hundred different guitars. This guitar is the worst quality I've ever owned, and I'm extremely disapointed with the quality of it and am returning it. DO NOT PURCHASE if you cant check it out yourself before purchasing. Dont make the same mistake I did. Fender's quality control needs some serious overhauling.

Finally a Modern Stratocaster with Top Shelf Appointments

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

I mostly play Gibson guitars however I have owned a 1987 Fender '62 Reissue Stratocaster since 1989. I got lucky and found it used. It belonged to the stores Luthier so it plays and sounds wonderful. I had owned a couple American Standards but never was happy with the design. Now in 2012 I went to GC to check out the new American Standard with the Fat 50's pickups, high mass tremelo block, and flawless fit and finish. Mine is Olympic White with Maple Neck. The manager told me GC had received their lot of the new American Stratocasters on a Friday afternoon and by closing time on Saturday they were all sold except for the one I purchased. It was the last one. I felt compelled to write this review because playing guitar for over 35 years I can say that these new American Standards are top notch. Mine plays and sounds great plus it stays in tune even when using the whammy bar. They are a great value and have all the top shelf components. I am so happy I waited until Fender put out this updated model. It's simply a really good American made Stratocaster perfect for gigging or just jamming in your basement. I absolutely love all the upgrades and would buy another one in a minute if anything happened to mine.

      Great guitar!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

When I was younger, I thought Strats sounded too thin, and owned a Les Paul. But with modern electronics and amps, things have changed. I just purchased a black American Standard Strat w/ maple fingerboard - great look and feel! If you want the feel, you should buy an American Strat - the imports use lower-grade wood and components, and don't feel the same. I also swapped out the stock pickups for Lace Sensors to get a little smoother sound. The stock pickups have a huge tonal range. The Lace Sensors are narrower and higher output. All in all, I love the guitar.

      Best guitar ever invented

      By

      from Reston, Virginia

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

I've owned maybe 50 e-guitars including 4 other USA Fender strats (including EJ and American deluxe, etc. and teles). This one in ash is the best overall. This is easily the most versatile with useful tones of any guitar I've ever owned. Tele's will make you a better player. But the most expressive guitar ever made is the strat with a close second being the 53 esquire and 59 LP. Yes a Les Paul vintage custom is incredible although not as versatile and I started on the short scale too. Later went the PRS route and finally graduated to the tele and now the strat. I could have saved a lot of money and time if I had started with the strat. If you can only own one e-guitar make it a strat. If you can afford 3 guitars make it a strat, tele and LP. It's best to have one guitar that you really learn to play though. That's why it makes sense to buy this guitar first and last. If you don't like a strat it means you haven't learned enough about guitar playing to appreciate it.

I picked up a 2014 American Standard Sienna Sunburst Strat and I love it. It's beautiful and fun to play. I've always been a humbucker kinda guy but it's great to broaden my tonal capabilities. I've been very happy with her. Swing by your local GC and check one out for yourself. Nuff said. I'm logging off to go play my purdy new Strat.

      Amazing Guitar

      By

      from Fairfax, VA

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Maple Fingerboard:

This is my 6th guitar (2nd American, also have a Am Std SG)and let me tell you right now, its amazing. I picked up the white with maple and swapped the all white pick guard out for a mint green one which matches perfectly with the upgraded aged plastic, its beautiful. I was tempted to buy an Am Stnd Strat off of Ebay because you can find them brand new for a couple hundred dollars cheaper than Guitar Center. However, holding it, playing it, seeing it in person made me much more comfortable spending that much money. Also, the guys at my Guitar Center in Fairfax, VA are so legit. I probably spent 3 hours trying different MIM Strats, used Les Pauls, everything... without any hassle. Its also nice to know if I ever have an issue I can take it right back into the shop. This all together makes it easily worth the extra money you would save from buying elsewhere online. The neck is like a stick of butter, the PUPs scream, the look is classic. What else do you really need in life?
