I've been a Stratocaster owner and player for over 30 years! This guitar arrived via UPS in a timely manner undamaged. According to the serial number, this guitar is a year 2013 model. I always expect that a guitar should be setup properly and ready to go right out of the box, and the setup of this guitar was good out of the box, even though I still performed my own set up to meet my comfort level of playing. I received the Olympic White model with the maple fret board model and I love it! I happen to own a few USA Fender Stratocasters dating from 1975 through 2013 including this recent acquisition and some of the specs have changed over the years within the USA Standard models. What really stands out on this current generation of Stratocasters is the Custom Shop Fat 50 pickups. The Fat 50's are very good pickups. Due to the fact that I play multiple styles of music from Jazz, Blues, Funk, Rock and R&B, the Fat 50 pickups have good presence in the mid and high tonal ranges, which allows me to stay on the top of the mix for solos and allows good presence and resolution for rhythm guitar playing while playing a supportive role in the band when I need to stay within the mix. Being that I love to play jazz, I found that the Custom Shop Fat 50 pickups give decent roll off of the highs with the tone select switch in the neck position to give me the warmer jazz tones that I like. I would prefer even a greater degree of roll off of the highs as these pickups have quite a bit of brightness, particularly with the maple fret board, but the tone is good enough for me to get the job done. The Pro Series hard shell case that comes with the guitar, is not as good of quality as the Fender cases that were made in the 60's 70's 80's or 90's, but I do like the fact that case is a tradition style Fender case in comparison to the over sized SKB that was included in the previous USA Standard model. Overall, I feel that this is a great guitar and I prefer the overall sound on this current model compared to the standard pickups in the previous Standard model that date around the years 2005 through 2010. Again....I love it! Great guitar!

I've been considering buying one of these for years. Finally broke down and ordered one from MF. First of all, I had them do a price match with the smile on the box people. Saved a couple hundred, but they sent me a used guitar. I didn't get a used guitar price on it, so that wasn't cool. When I first opened it up the case was very nice and high quality. When I first saw the guitar it was beautiful. I love the Sienna Sunburst finish. It seemed to be very well made and surprisingly light. I don't like the fact that I ordered a maple neck/fret board and they put a finish on the fret side. Why would they do that? The best guitar I've ever played has a solid maple neck/fret board and it is completely unfinished other than oiled. I did not like the way your hand kinda sticks to it. The tone of this guitar is good. Very bright and bluesy with good cleans through mild crunch. But that's about all it's good for. Anything over mild gain and it just doesn't sound good. That is through a good tube amp too. The main problem I have with this guitar is that no matter what I do, it just won't stay in tune. Very subtle vibrato on the tremo, and you have to stop and retune. That drives me nuts and shouldn't be an issue on a guitar that costs, well, you know what they charge for one of these. Personally, I don't see what is so great about a Strat. I've played more versatile, better guitars for half the price. If you mainly play blues or country, this is a great guitar for you, as long as you don't touch the tremolo bar. I'm sending this one back.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have a feeling the 2012--2016 American Standards will go down as some of the best guitars ever made--at least the best Strats ever made. I just played 3 guitars from the new Professional series. Really nice but in my opinion they neither sound nor play any better that the models from the previous 4 years... And I got my 2016 MIA standard on a "flash" sale at GC in the $800's! I wanted to justify paying an extra $600+ for the new Pro series but simply could not.

Beautiful guitar, plays well, sounds great. I got it within a week with free shipping. The case is a very modern small square case which is very ergonomic and cool. The guitar seems like it has a pretty good setup right out of the box, no buzzing or anything and great tone. Got a great deal on it from GC.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

OMG. This is my 3rd Stratocaster, the first being an Eric Clapton Signature, and the 2nd a 1974 which I had modded with Area 51 pickups from DiMarzio.
This guitar out of the box sounds great. These Custom Shop Fat 50s give crisp lows which replace the tendency to muddiness in the other 2. All 5 pickup positions give great tones, including the classic Strat quack.
My band mates hear the difference and musically inclined folks in the audience say it cuts through the mix better. And the action is much faster.
        A steal at a grand.

I watched a recent interview with GE Smith and he said," the best guitars Fender makes are being made in today's manufacturing." I would agree. These new standard American strats have custom shop quality right out of the box but still require a pro set-up but I'm ok with that, a great value by any measure.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Before, I owned a 60's Stratocaster MIM for 7 years (I am a Korean and bought this in Korea, before I came to USA almost 5 years ago for study). I was kinda fed up with the guitar but still loved it as well. To upgrade, I decided to try the American-made Stratocaster and to return it if it is not quite different from MIM. Hence I ordered the exact same looking guitar (3-tone sunburst and rosewood fretboard).

I tried the new American Stratocaster. It is fantastic. NO RETURN whatsoever. I heard that Fender uses the same wood and just assemble in Mexico for MIM guitars, but once you try, you will feel the difference in resonance (maybe my 60's was too old?). I personally enjoy the thick neck shape of 60's style, but perfect satin finish compensates that. In far future, I hope I can try American made 65 reissue...

By the way, the best guitar in my experience was a Fender customshop Telecaster relic, which I tried for 10 minutes at Guitar Center in Chicago two years ago in Thanksgiving. I cannot forget that feeling and I really appreciate guys there for letting me play that beautiful one.

Comes with a solid and light-weight case.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I use this guitar for jamming out in my house, but is stage ready if that's what you do. I've always searched comparisons of the MIM stratocaster compared to the American Stratocaster on YouTube and always thought that they sounded so similar. I guess that's why I bought a MIM stratocaster first, but after ordering and playing this American stratocaster all I can say is wow!! This sounds and feels so much better. It was setup perfect right out the box. I had no issues with the way the neck was set into the body of the guitar like one of the people in the previous reviews. It also came with one of the new heavy duty Fender cases which I like a lot more. I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a new Stratocaster.

Superb all around, rewards familiarity and tweaking

              By Tigerer

              from Baltimore, MD

              About Me Novice

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I picked up a 2012 American Standard about three or four months back and am still blown away by the quality of the tone and feel every time I pick it up. For context, I've been playing for about twelve years and have owned a variety of mid grade guitars (Mexican Fenders, Epiphones, and a Schecter or two back in the day) and played plenty of vintage and higher end guitars.

The guitar itself is beautiful. I have an Olympic white model and the finish is pretty much flawless. The hardware is an obvious step up from Mexi models that I've played and owned and the neck feels really, really great. I've always found strats to be one of the most comfortable guitars to play and this one is just that much more.

The Fat 50's are lighter and clearer than any pickup I've ever heard and absolutely superb for clean playing. As others have noted, they are a little scooped and don't have as much mid range as other strat sets, but that's neither a pro or con in my book, its just the fact of the matter.

My one gripe is a typical one - the two point tremolo system has a learning curve and I'm still climbing it. I bought mine used and it had been setup previously and then restrung with a different gauge of string than either factory standard OR the set described in a setup sheet I was given. Obviously, that's not a problem with the guitar itself but I've now restrung and tweaked the setup two or three times and a good mix of the desired tension, action, and float still eludes me. Most guitars require a little less time and effort to get right, but I feel that the payoff so far has definitely been worth it.

If you're looking for a classic strat sound and want the best of every quality that goes into that definition, this is the guitar. If you're picky about setup or ignorant of a how a floating tremolo works, be prepared for some research and work. Or pay someone to do it and avoid the self made frustration I've faced.

Fender is making some of the best strats they have ever produced right now. This is the quintessential Stratocaster. The Fat 50s pickups are fantastic - no need to swap them. The neck feels very nice. This guitar is substantially better than a MIM standard and very close to the deluxe in fit, finish, and quality. You just can't go wrong with that American standard if you are after a guitar in this price range.
