I picked up a tri-color sunburst American Std. Strat in March, 2014 after looking at 2 or 3 different models. I waited six months before placing this review to make sure I wasn't overly giddy about getting the second Strat in my life (now at age 65). The first was a early 70s model and while it played and sounded fine, my new strat with the custom shop Fat Fifties pups actually puts the old one to shame. I also have a Les Paul Traditional Pro II which is also a hell of a instrument and offers a different sound entirely. While I love them both, if I had a gun to my head to choose one over the other, I'd likely keep the strat--which is also less expensive. The sound is phenomenal and the fingerboard and frets are truly perfection. One reviewer claimed a "buzz" on certain positions of the pup switch, but I have had no such incidents and would suggest having the guitar seriously looked over. Hell, I was getting a strange string buzz on the Gibson but something as simple as nut sauce cleared that up. As far as anything looking cheap? Not a chance. I look at these two vastly different guitars and the Fender easily lives up to the fit and finish AND smooth playability it is known for and is equal to the Gibson. The Strat is also lighter and won't break your shoulder if you stand and play. A friend has an '05 Strat Deluxe with SCN pickups and I was disappointed with the sound of his guitar compared to the Fat 50s! The bottom line: if you are considering a Stratocaster, by all means, try this one out and go with the model whose pickups sound most dramatically compliments your music/style preferences. Kudos to GNC Bridgteton Missouri and Kurt for delineating the differences in all the stuff I've been salivating over! I'm a very please old coot.

Where do I begin? It's like the early years of CBS owned Fender. Lets start with the good. The color and the finish were awesome as well as the pickups, really great sound. Now the bad. Just about everything about the frets were poorly done. Sharp edges were the most problematic, but sharp burrs along the fret were also an issue. The neck was mounted slightly crooked. The nut was a complete disaster, the worst of it was the strings popped out and bend towards the tuners, which made it impossible to set up without some work at my local GC. The bridge was also slightly crooked like the neck. I have never had a guitar require so much work just to be have way playable. The volume knob was loose and the pick guard had a nasty vibration.Very disappointed and I had to return it. I have had several problems with guitars out of the box but none as bad as this. Prices keep going up and quality is going down and not just Fender but all the gang. Time to shape up money is to hard to come by to accept what's being put out to us the public. Very disapointed.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

OMG. This is my 3rd Stratocaster, the first being an Eric Clapton Signature, and the 2nd a 1974 which I had modded with Area 51 pickups from DiMarzio.
This guitar out of the box sounds great. These Custom Shop Fat 50s give crisp lows which replace the tendency to muddiness in the other 2. All 5 pickup positions give great tones, including the classic Strat quack.
My band mates hear the difference and musically inclined folks in the audience say it cuts through the mix better. And the action is much faster.
    A steal at a grand.

    Just order this one

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Before, I owned a 60's Stratocaster MIM for 7 years (I am a Korean and bought this in Korea, before I came to USA almost 5 years ago for study). I was kinda fed up with the guitar but still loved it as well. To upgrade, I decided to try the American-made Stratocaster and to return it if it is not quite different from MIM. Hence I ordered the exact same looking guitar (3-tone sunburst and rosewood fretboard).

I tried the new American Stratocaster. It is fantastic. NO RETURN whatsoever. I heard that Fender uses the same wood and just assemble in Mexico for MIM guitars, but once you try, you will feel the difference in resonance (maybe my 60's was too old?). I personally enjoy the thick neck shape of 60's style, but perfect satin finish compensates that. In far future, I hope I can try American made 65 reissue...

By the way, the best guitar in my experience was a Fender customshop Telecaster relic, which I tried for 10 minutes at Guitar Center in Chicago two years ago in Thanksgiving. I cannot forget that feeling and I really appreciate guys there for letting me play that beautiful one.

Comes with a solid and light-weight case.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have owned many guitars in the past; cheap, moderate and high quality. This guitar is pricey but definitely worth the money. It's a quality instrument that feels, plays and sounds good. Many people say that there is not a difference between the made in Mexico version and the American but I can attest that there is, as I have owned both in the past. They feel and sound different.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I had a 2011 and now have a 2012, I upgraded the PU's on the 2011 (SD's) the stock fat fifty PU's in the 2012 sounded better IMO. The color choice's were great ended up with the jade green and a rosewood finger board, any other time my choice would be maple. Fender has a very good selection of rosewood, fit and finish is fantastic. Very pleased!
