Comments about Fender American Standard Jaguar Bass:

Stunning finish that isn't captured in online photos. Classic American made bass responsible for the low end throb of all great rock, country, blues, folk, jazz and bluegrass artists and recordings. Incredible level of settings.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jaguar Bass:

I purchased the Red American Standard Jaguar Bass to replace my American Deluxe Jazz Bass. The fit and finish on the bass was excellent and Guitar Center folks were very nice to deal with. Here are some of my observations: 1) Neck - the neck is indeed jazz'ish, but seemed a little thicker in the hand than my jazz bass. It could of just been the fatter strings, but it was not as easy to play as my Jazz, 2) Pickups - the pickups sounded typical fender, especially on the bridge single coil. I expected a little more bottom from the P pickup, but it was pretty round in series mode. 3) Switching - this was a little confusing at first and ultimately less flexible than expected. It was kind of cool to be able to get two distinct tones (and a third somewhat altered tone in series) at the flip of a switch, 4) Preamp - this was probably the weakest link. There was consistent noise from the EQ with the bridge pickup active. The two-way adjustment (bass/treble) is not up to par with typical fender flexibility (bass/treble/mid). For comparison, I've had two other American Deluxe series basses with the three-way eq and I've never had a bit of noise. This alone wasn't a deal breaker but I just didn't feel the active EQ was very musical on this. And setting them with the thumb wheels is a bit awkward, 5) Color - The red color is very 'sparkly'. This isn't really apparent from photos on-line but in person it is very much so. I've seen this on other newer fenders and I just don't care for it. Ultimately, this bass did not meet my needs and I returned it at a local GC outlet with no questions asked. It's really a nice bass and for the price you can't go wrong. Definitely nails two flavors of Fenders (P and J) but you won't get the full range of Jazz sounds that you can get with the balance control on a typical Jazz.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jaguar Bass:

This is a great bass. The tonal variations that are available are stunning & I haven't played it in active mode yet. I do have two complaints. First for Fender. Why do they not include more info about the instrument than a bare bones universal user manual. An explanation of the pole adjustments on the J pickup & how the series/parallel switch affects the tone would have been helpful. Second for Guitar Center. Why don't they do a better job setting up the instrument? And then they charge to have it set up correctly in the store. This is why I only buy guitars from them that are on sale. I will say that dealing with the staff online, on the phone, & at the store was enjoyable, good people.
