First off I would like to say that I've been actively playing guitar for over 25 years, so you know I have lots and lots of experience with guitars and anything having to do with guitars. I started my career with high end Ibanez guitars and over the years have owned Gibson's (Custom, Classic and Standard models) many deluxe US strats and my latest a PRS Custom 22 Brazilian. I've since sold the PRS simply because I was affraid to play it and get a mark on it. I purchased this Fender American Special Strat three months ago and all I can say is "Why buy anything else?" Why bother? I'll save you lots of time right now. This guitar does it all. Fender tone that is recognizable and S1 switching for more bluesy tones. The mahogany body is both sonically and visually beautiful. Fender has been putting out amazing guitars for the past four to five years. I highly recommend this guitar to any serious musician. Also Guitar Center Buffalo rocks big time.

I bought this guitar becouse of its style and performance. The neck is very quick and easy to play and the single coils sound great. the humbucker sounds amazing with power chords and in drop d tuning, but, I didnt like the muddy sound it produced when used it with open chords. The overall performance of this guitar far out weighs the muddy humbucker on a clean channel. If you are looking for a quality guitar that will last you a liftime, look no further.

Just amazingly good!

By Doc Blase'

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I walked into our GC expecting to look over some Custom Shop Strats. I walked out with a Mahogany HSS American Special. On the way home I was wondering, "Could it really be this good?" My impression of this guitar has gotten better every time I play it. I'm not giving it a 5 in Quality and Features because I imagine somebody could conceivably make a guitar for triple the price that is built a little better or has some more bells and whistles, but you'd have to pay several thousand more, and then it'd be too expensive to actually use anyway! The guitar acoustically just sounds wonderful; there is a ringing sustain on the upper strings that is really unlike anything I've played before. It sings! The intonation is delicious, and the neck is accurate from the first fret all the way up. Yes, they really ARE this good, and for not a ton of cash. either. For once I have stumbled on something akin to the '80's "Rivera Super Champ" -before it became a rare collector?s item- that for a short while is available, and you just know you have a guitar that people will someday refer to as, "One of THOSE strats". I would be not at all surprised if the value of these doubles someday. They are a steal at this price.

You will enjoy this guitar!

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I own a 1972 strat and two other electrics with humbuckers. I was looking for a guitar that had both. This guitar has more tone flexability than any you'll find. Basically a top-of-the-line American Deluxe HSS fully loaded but w/o the locking trem. The single coil pick-ups do have a slight hum, but nothing compared to my '72. The Humbucker has a thicker brighter tone than my Ibanez AH10. The fit & finish is 1st rate. An outstanding value. A limited edition worth making more of..I'm glad I have one.

A Killer Mahogany Strat!

By knifemare69

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

This is a Fender with a color scheme a diehard Gibson fan can respect. I was looking for a single coil guitar to add to my collection and this more than fits the bill. You get amazing clean tones with the S-1 switching system, and the neck is comfy and playable. This guitar fits very well against your body, and it balances naturally. I played one for over two hours at my local Guitar Center so now I'm saving my dollars up to buy one!

Don't Act Too Quickly

By Ripmeister69

from Houston, TX

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

This is not an American Deluxe Strat, nor does it have samarium cobalt noiseless pickups in the single coils. These are tex-mex pickups (not as hot as the American Deluxe "Hot SCN" neck). This is actually an American Special. The fender tremolo isn't that great either, but the locking tuners and LSR nuts help a little. Overall, this is a high quality guitar, but limited to blues/classic rock type music. The DH1 humbucker is not that hot, and the tex-mex pickups are not much better than the Mexican pickups. The mohogany body, of course, gives this guitar a deep, rich sound that is better than the American Deluxe Strat (in my opinion, and assuming that you replace the single coils). My opinion is that Fenders are a little overpriced, but this guitar is reasonably priced. It's definitely worth the money even if you upgrade.

Consider me a convert

By JakeSlade

from Kernersville, NC

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I have never loved a Strat. My preference is for Gibson guitars. But I fell in love with this guitar as soon as I played it. It was one of the fastest guitar purchases I have ever made. I have to say that if not for the friendly staff at my local Guitar Center suggesting that I try it, I probably would never have selected it from the rack. The solid mahogany body and outstanding humbucker in the bridge give it a fantastic distorted growl from my Hot Rod Deville. The sustain is the best I have experienced in a tremolo equipped guitar. The S1 circuitry allows for a wide variety of tones. My Strat loving friend likes to call it the Fender SG. With an excellent neck and top-quality tuners, you can call it whatever you want. It is a fantastic guitar.

Best Strat I've played

By Scott Emerson

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

This would be the Strat I would design, but they've added things that never occurred to me. I've always loved Fenders and have owned four Strats and two Tele Deluxe. This is the best guitar I've ever played. I usually like maple finger boards but the smooth frets make the rosewood just as fast and the ballbearing nut makes it ring like a bell. The bridge is smooth and fast and doesn't scrape your hand like most Strats and the double humbucker gives thickens up the sound but is still sharp and clean. Much better than any other Fender double pickup. The mahogany body resonates beautifully. The translucent red finish, black peghead and pickguard make it one of a kind. Perfect.

Best guitar in my collection

By Gary

from Boulder, Colorado

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for 2 years now. I went to Guitar Center to buy a Les Paul. I just happened to pick this Strat off the wall and plug in to a Marshall. It took me a very short time to forget about the Paul after getting a feel for the neck and the sounds this guitar provides. I've been playing for 25 years and never liked the looks and playability of a Strat, until this one. The finish is amazing and I feel that all great tone guitars are mahogany like this one ... good going Fender. I really fell for the black head stock, pick guard and pickups. This guitar plays like silk, is easy to work on and I'm surprised it doesn't sell for more considering the quality. After reading other reviews, I looked into changing the pickups, but as I played it for a while I realized it sounds amazing as is. I've also read that there were problems with this model staying in tune. Forget that, all I'd say is ... "locking tuners", learn how to use them. This guitar is solid and fits the body well. I highly recommend this Strat above the rest.

I just might be converted

By JoeSlay61

from Kernersville, NC

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

A friend of mine (who is a big Strat fan) referred to this guitar as a Fender SG. Call it want you want, this thing is outstanding. I was looking for a Strat at the Greensboro, NC Guitar Center. I prefer Gibson guitars. But if you are a guitar guy, you need a Strat. The sales guy pulled one of these down from the wall and it was love as soon as I played it. Quality is excellent. I have read some saying that the tone isn't great. Mine is awesome. The guy who sets up my guitars also sets up guitars for people you would have heard of. He asked if the pick-ups were aftermarket as they were superior to those on other Strats he has worked on. The bridge humbucker growls without being overly bright. Sustain is killer for a tremolo equipped guitar. I can't recommend a guitar more highly than this.

What More Do You Want!?

By Nestor

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

This guitar can do it all! I've been playing with it for about a month and i don't regret buying it. I was gonna go with a Gibson Les Paul but once I had this beast in my hands there was no letting go. Plus it looks great. The sound I get out of it when its on clean sounds smooth to the touch even when its unplugged it sounds beautiful. When its on distortion it sounds METAL!

Fender limited ed. American Special

By Ray

from Oklahoma City

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

Too bad they don't have a picture for this guitar - it is GORGEOUS. Why don't they have a picture? Fender made a limited run of these just for Guitar Center, so if you buy it, you won't see your buddy down the street with the same guitar, and you may never see another one! This guitar sounds and performs as good as it looks, too. The S1 switching, roller nut, texmex pups, etc, mean great tones, natural vibrato and incredible sustain. Priced below a Fender MIUSA Deluxe Strat, but with comparable goodies, so you can't go wrong buying this one.

Great Guitar, but not for Les Paul Players.

By Alexander Fay.

from Undisclosed

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I have been playing this guitar for about a year now, and I really love it. It was love at first sight when I saw it at the dealer, and I was in the market for an American Strat anyway, so I went for it. I'm used to a cheaper, albiet nice Epiphone and the occasional Schechter C-1, so this was a little different for me having Single coil pickups. They sound great, but when one switches to the sole humbucker at the bridge, the guitar sounds very murky, and doesn't have the normal gritty sound that my Les Paul has. The guitars single coils make up for it though, so I just use it for more funky/lighter tuned when I play. It's a very easy guitar to play; very quick and responsive and the finish is supurb on the fretboard, frets and the back of the neck. Overall, I think it's a beauty of a guitar, and the only thing I could improve would be to put a nicer humbicker on it.

The Best Fender On The Planet

By Matt

from Dayton, Oh

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

This guitar is absoultely amazing. I didnt know that this guitar was limited edition though. That would explain why I've only seen one of these guitars. This guitar has it all. S-1 switching system, LSR Rolling Nut, Schaller Locking Tuners, Samarium Noiseless Middle and Neck Pickups, and a DH-1 humbucker, and the sweetest finish I've ever seen on a Fender Guitar. This guitar will suit anything from blues to Metal. The humbucker sounds heavy, but its very clear at the same time. The noiseless pickups are absoultely perfect for getting those Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and SRV tones. I cant even believe how great this guitar sounds. This was my dream guitar, and now I finally own it. The only thing I wish it had was 24 frets, but thats such a minor problem, that I dont really care about it that much. This guitar IS the best Fender on the market in my opinion. If you want a Fender thats going to deliver everything, then this is the guitar for you.

A truly beautiful instrument

By Bill Power

from Melbourne Australia

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar! The neck feels amazing...creamy is the best word I can find to describe how it feels. The mahogany body gives this guitar a richer tone than its alder counterparts and the deep red semi-transparent finish looks gorgeous. There is a huge tonal range available from the two single coils and splittable humbucker, everything from clean bell tones which would open the pearly gates, to the devil's own screaming lead. Other deluxe features such as the frictionless nut, tremolo, strap-locks and a fantastic case add even more value to this purchase. The guys at Guitar Center North Sherwood really looked after me (onya Joe!) and I would recommend this guitar to all. I still canۡt believe I got such a beautiful guitar for this price.

Love it.

By Jay R.

from Costa Mesa, CA

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I love my older Strat, but was looking for a new guitar to give me more sound versatility. I tried several "reasonably priced" humbucker/single coil guitars , all of which sucked. Then, the salesman brought me this Mahogany beauty with a black headstock, and I immediately fell in love. Better yet, I lucked out with a guitar that played great, right off the shelf. Great tone. I compared it with the other HSS strats, and I personally preferred the sound of the Mahogany strat. I have been extremely pleased with the versatility, and play this guitar almost exclusively. Now, I have the classic strat sound and the humbucker to kick it up a notch for heavier rock tunes. This Corona-built Fender was a great buy!

what could be better

By paul altotsky

Comments about Fender American Select Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

what could be a better guitar then this you might ask? is it the crimson red finish or the lean narrow headstock. whatever the reason this guitar is by far a true expression of how well fender/fender american makes thier products. the sound is great and the look is better. your getting more than what you pay for with this masterpiece. it feels to great to be an ordinary stratocaster, to those of you that don't perfer strats but are thinking about it, this guitar is the perfect opportunity, jump on it, before it's too late. trust me you won't regret it. i know i don't!
