I walked into the store planning to purchase a Mexican P-Bass, but found it impossible to proceed with that plan after playing the American P-Bass. You'd think that having only one pickup would limit the versatility of this instrument, but the S-1 switching system COMPLETELY changes the character of the instrument. When the switch is in "parallel" position, it has the natural, delicate tone of a good electric guitar... but prepare to have your insides shaken and stirred when you switch to "series" position. Yes, the instrument is a little on the pricey side, but I seriously doubt I'll ever need to buy another bass... and THAT'S what makes it a good value.

I was recently looking for a new bass, and hit up all the music stores I could find. Right off the bat I picked up the American Precision bass, because I had heard so much about how amazing it was. It really does look beautiful and the neck is very well made. It didnt play like a $1000 bass should though, the tone was decent and there arent much options for the sound you can create. For the price you can do much better, but if you are a very die-hard Fender fan, this would be a good bass. The bass i ended up getting Is an Ibanez BTB 4 string, and it is beautiful it plays way better than the american series did in my mind, forabout half the price.

A Beuty Defined By Monster Tone

By SlapOmatica

from Ft. Worth (Funky-Town) Tx.

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

I Purchased the Butterscotch Blonde with the Maple fretboard and have never been more satisfied. This baby kicks the teeth out of it's competition. I would classify it as a collector bass and won't be letting go of it anytime soon. I play a lot of slap and this honey can take all the rigorous motion I can give it and beg for more. The S-1 switching system is a nice upgrade for that Jaco type sound. I can easily achieve my favorite Mark King or Victor Wooten tone on this puppy. Buy it and be forever satisfied. And yes it is built like a tank. One that likes to shake the walls of your house with monster tone and classic looks.

Extremely suprised....

By Bonabe

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

While waiting for my backordered Ric, which by the way, won't be available until summer of '08, I decided not to wait that long for a top quality bass. I ordered the American Series P-Bass and was dumbfounded by the quality. The factory set-up was dead on. No tweaking needed. Plays like a dream and the S-1 feature gives it a J-Bass sound.

Just looking at it makes me smile!

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

For me it's the perfect bass. Great sound, versatile, vintage, responsive, and I got it on a clearance sale! Mine has a maple fretboard which I like because it feels like butter to play (maybe this is a mental thing). After playing a J bass for 8 years, the wide P neck is real easy and roomy to play. Great looking axe too! I highly recommend it.

The Original is Still the Best

By K. Lee

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

There is a reason that the American Precision Bass has been aroun for so long--it is the sound of money. The money you'll make by having great tone along with great bottom. The money you'll save by being able to just plug straight into a recording console and get a great sound. The money you'll save by not having bought some stupid Korean or Chinese (gack) shiny piece of junk that falls apart after a couple of years. With the S - 1 switch your tone variations are enhanced. Don't forget, these things are also built like tanks. Long after you're dead your kids will still be playing this bass (NOT gonna happen with those Korean/Chinese "instruments"). Buy one. Get it set up to your liking by a luthier experienced with Fender basses. Play it for life. You'll never need to apologize for showing up to a gig with one of these.

A classic

By FenderForever

from Sydney, Australia

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

The Fender American Precision Bass was the second Bass I bought, and it was a lot more better then I thought. I used a standard Legend 10watt amplifier with it and even though my amp is kind of..bad, the bass sounded great, imagine what it would sound like with a Marshall amp! The P-Bass has a nice, original body and a neck. It's average weight, so it's not too heavy or too light. With this bass, you could use it forever, and never have to buy a new one again.

I have the squier P bass, and it is my first guitar, and I'm sure the two basses aren't that much different other than the quality.

Great purchase

By Dscam

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

Just got the new Precision bass home and already I'm very pleased with the purchase. I started playing in 1984 and have been thru several basses. The last was a 2000 Jazz Bass. Just recently passed it on to my son and after much research I went with the P-Bass. Fender makes a great product and this one is no exception. Srtong tones, smooth action and high quality materials all add up to a superb product. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

All the sound

By Frank DeVito

from Pleasant Grove, Ut.

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

I have been playing bass for years and am totaly in love with tone. This bass has given me all the tone I could want. I love the neck. It is heavy and solid. The keys seem to hold the tuning forever. I have been able to play this thing hard and beat it up on the stage and it is amazing how it is always in tune. I own a few basses these days but this is by far the best made bass I know of.

A bit expensive

By Anonymous

Comments about Fender American Precision Bass:

While this bass does remind me of the fenders of yesteryear I feel that it's not completely all the big for the buck. Though this is a very good quality insturment, it just doesn't feel like a high quality one. I felt it was just like a mexican made or highway series. Now for the sound, the sound was very nice punchy tight p bass sound. Think live at leeds entwistle. However this was the case for the other mexican and highway p basses, so it feels a bit overprice again. The neck was pretty thick and chunky, not everyone likes the baseball bat neck but I like it. Now I'm disappointed at this bridge on the bass, for so much I thought they could of at least used something a bit more, well effective. The best part of the bass is the high resale value, I've seen some go very high, and I mean very high.
