Overview

Updating Fender’s classic design with revolutionary technology and sound, the American Elite Precision Bass is an entirely new beast of a bass. Designed for 21st-century players who push the envelope of tone and possibility every time they play, this bass is a multi-faceted performer with classic style, exceptional feel and versatile, giant sound that leaves others in the dust.

Fender’s all-new fourth-generation Noiseless pickups are their latest advance in pickup technology. Exclusive to the American Elite series, they combine modern noise-free performance with authentic vintage-style sound that doesn’t sacrifice one iota of warmth. A redesigned robust 18 V preamp cranks up the power for even more signal quality for chest-thumping tone with more headroom and reduced noise. Designed for fast playing and effortless position changes, the compound profile neck with a 9.5–14 in. compound radius fingerboard is ideal for all playing styles. A modern “C”-shape at the new genuine bone nut, the profile morphs along the length of the neck to a modern “D”-shaped profile at the updated neck heel, providing plenty of comfortable support for fret hand antics. Posiflex™ graphite support rods run the length of the neck, adding stability to the neck while resisting temperature- and humidity-induced warping. The HiMass™ Vintage bridge increases note attack and resonance for thunderous basslines with mammoth punch and near-endless sustain while allowing either topload or strings-thru-body stringing. In a vintage-inspired touch, the new truss rod adjustment wheel has been moved to the butt end of the neck for easier access, making neck relief adjustments a snap.

Fender is renowned for head-turning style, and this bass is no different—from the ergonomic contours to the black chrome headstock logo, large pearloid fret markers and a new color this instrument will amaze the audience with titanic sound and classic aesthetics. The American Elite Precision Bass is a daring new tonal multi-tool for modern bassists who need an instrument that doesn’t just meet the performance demands of modern music—it completely disintegrates them. Includes a redesigned Elite Molded Case with body-hugging contours to provide increased protection for your cherished instrument and TSA locks.

Comments about Fender American Elite Precision Bass Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass:

I rarely write a review but this is an exception. Background: I have a 1964 P Bass which I've owned since 1969. Also a 2008 Custom Jazz bass which has a precision body. Both basses are great basses but I've alway felt that I was looking for a one bass that did both. I think I've found it. Bought this last week at a GC store. RIght out of the case setting all tone and panning controls neutral this bass sounds amazing. I play Ampeg amps. The bass has an amazing variety of tones but the one most important to me was that it capture some of that solid punch that my old P Bass delivered. The punch you feel even if it's not real loud. This bass does that. It also is less "muddy" than I feel that my Jazz bass can be. You really hear the full range of harmonics. The neck is 1.625 at the nut so between the Jazz neck and the old P Bass neck. The profile of the neck however makes it easy to play. I have always liked the narrower Jazz neck but this neck is just fine and the bass tone just really rings out. Much to say but a really great thing also is that when you switch between Active and Passive mode the tone does not change just the volume or how hot the signal is. Bottom line if you like and play Fender Basses this one is worth taking a look at.

Comments about Fender American Elite Precision Bass Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass:

Amazing bass. Setup was perfect out of the box. Playability is excellent. The feel of the compound neck is outstanding and the range of tones between the P/J pickups and the active/passive options on this bass is awesome. More fun than humans should be allowed to have. No negatives. I have a standard P and a standard J, love them both, but this bass is something else altogether. Fender nailed it. 5 stars!

Comments about Fender American Elite Precision Bass Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass:

This bass is the second American made guitar I've attempted to buy at GC in the past month. This one is going to be returned, just like the Rickenbacker I bought. This Fender was almost perfect, but when I went to put on new strings, I discovered that the bone nut was incorrectly filed. This bass is supposed to be set up for the standard Fender NPS string set of .45-.105, which is what I bought to replace the factory set. However, the nut is filed for .45-.110, which means there are few or no standard string sets, Fender or otherwise, that will work on this bass. It's obvious to the naked eye that the "E" string slot is way too big relative to the other three, and even more obvious when the .105 is mounted and tuned. This is an inexcusable manufacturing error that ruined an otherwise good guitar. It seems that "American quality" doesn't mean much these days, and it's certainly not worth the extra money. Indeed, I have found that the build quality, action, and sound is generally better on their Japanese and Mexican models, which are far more affordable. Don't be fooled by this seemingly great bass: you'll probably go through hell trying to restring it, just as I did.

Comments about Fender American Elite Precision Bass Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass:

I recently purchased a Fender American Precision Bass Elite from my local guitar center. I was quite dismayed, after a several week wait for the bass due to it being on backorder, that the bridge pickup didn't work, nor did the tone knobs. I'm very surprised that a quality control issue of this magnitude would slip through, especially on your 'Elite Series'. I've been a Fender bass player for over 25 years, and this is the first time I've felt compelled to write about a quality issue. I guess when spending upwards of $2,000 on a bass, I would expect it to at least work when I plug it in. I now have to wait another several days for Guitar Center to ship another bass to the local store for me to pick up. I can only hope that this next bass works and has the smooth playability one would expect from Fender's top of the line series of bass guitars.

Comments about Fender American Elite Precision Bass Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass:

Fender did a great job on these basses! Especially the natural color and its high-gloss finish is stunning. The action on the bass, as shipped, could have been a hair lower, but intonation was fine, and the action could in my case be adjusted simply using the set screws in the bridge, no need to fiddle with the (very accessible and easy to use) neck adjustment. The pickup heights were just fine, especially with a good amp/cabinet. With smaller amps one might be tempted to make the E string side of the pickup a bit higher. The noiseless bridge pickup lives up to its description, and noise from the neck pickups is not noticeable in my use. In P-Bass mode (active electronics off and using only the neck pickup and the passive tone control), it sounds like what a P bass should sound like. This is my main use, but you can get very jazzy tones using the bridge pickup and active electronics. One reason I got the elite (rather than a pro) is that the 1/4" jack is on the bottom of the guitar in a metal bracket, and not on the plastic pick guard. This can, however, interfere a little when sitting down on a couch unless you have a 90-degree plug on your cable. I am using it on my Fender Rumble 40 practice amp (best out-of-the-box vintage tone of all small < $200 amps in my opinion) and on my Ampeg BA210v2 in band practice. The new Fender TSA case that comes with it is beautiful, but a bit wider than usual bass cases, and internally has less room than might be expected. I found it impractical to store my 3" padded Levy's strap in the same case, since that strap does not roll up or fold. It comes with an okay but unremarkable Fender strap that does fit in one of the compartments. The bass comes preinstalled with strap locks, and the matching parts are provided for attachment to a strap. The Fender strap's holes are a little too small, however, so you need to apply some persuasion to make them fit. In general, I don't usually do product reviews, but this one was worth it!
