Overview

The American Deluxe Stratocaster electric guitar maintains its traditional look and feel while introducing upgrades that include three N3 Noiseless single-coil pickups that still produce their revered sparkle and snap and-with noiseless design-no annoying hum.

The S-1 switching system adds additional pickup combinations beyond those provided by a standard five-way switch including new combinations of series and parallel wiring for a dazzling array of tonal choice. The compound radius fretboard that modern guitarists demand ensures strings won't fret out even with extreme bending.

Other improvements include the high-mass tremolo block that increases sustain; locking tuning keys; and a molded case with glass-reinforced latches and TSA locks.

Fender N3 Noiseless pickups
N3 Noiseless pickups deliver the best of yesterday and today, because they deliver landmark vintage Fender tone and response without the hum that can plague single-coil pickups. Using an improved stacked coil-coil design, N3 Noiseless pickups are specially tailored for each Stratocaster and Telecaster pickup position. The insulated metal core of each pickup position type differs in thickness and composition for enhanced tone, and Fender has fine-tuned the sized, shape, and wire gauge of the coils to balance the magnetic responsiveness essential to great tone. N3 pickups represent a welcome return to the warmth and clarity of alnico magnets. An Alnico 5 magnet is used in the bridge position, Alnico 2 in the middle position, and Alnico 3 for the neck position. Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

This is probably the best strat I've ever played. These pickups deliver the true strat sounds one would expect, but with zero noise. They have an excellent syrupy vintage sound, and excel at overdriven blues and clean bell like sounds. When pushed really hard they have an excellent distorted sound. They retain extreme clarity and definition while having a nice strat characteristic, but with lots of thick meaty distortion. Possibly the best all-in-one guitar I've played in a very long time. Will be picking one up as a compliment to my PRS McCarty.

Ok, I am writing this review because the "Why did I pay so much? (part 1)" didn't paste in the way I wanted. I don't know if it's the formatting but some words have been left out and now the review doesn't really make much sense. Here are my thoughts about the American deluxe: everybody seems to give it high praise for it's craftsmanship and tone. I don't know if they work for fender or simply have not played any other guitars. The level of craftsmanship is fine. For a guitar in this price range I would not expect anything less. I have a Rogue mandolin that I bought for $$$ dollars and its level of craftsmanship is not worse. What bothers me is when I got this guitar the pick guard was covered with plastic film that I could not remove completely, it is still stuck under the tone knobs. The abalone inlays are cute but I wonder have big of a surcharge they are. In other parts of the world abalone and mother of pearl are cheap commodities. The tone is standard fender tone, believe me if you play it trough a bad amp it is not going to sound good. If you play a regular fender for $$$ through a good amp they are going to sound the same. Some words about the bridge: when I changed the strings I was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that the guitar had three rather wimpy springs holding it in place in the back. Not the 5 big ones that I expected (look at Clapton's Blackie). I think this contributes to the fact that the bridge really doesn't function like it should,- every time I use the tremolo bar I feel like the bridge is going to break off. In general I am saddened by the fact that fender is still milking a guitar design from the 50's. They have not improved it since. Quite on the contrary they capitalize on all the "vintage" and "relic" models, and I always want to ask them,- don't you feel ashamed that in 60 years you have not managed to make a better guitar? Buy this guitar if you are into pretty guitars. If you care about sound, it's just an average strat.

My favorite guitar.

By Johnny Rockabilly

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is my "do it all" guitar. Between the five position switch the S-1 feature, you get an amazing variety of tones, vintage jazz to modern rock. Fender is the best at making cheep guitars but when you get their top-of-the-line stuff it's really high quality. Mine was set up perfectly right out of the box, I changed the strings to 10's but that's all I've done. It stays in tune forever, nothing has broken and plays effortlessly, truly a professional grade guitar.

Great Guitar

By Nick McMullen

from Albion, NY

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Right now, all I have is a Fender Standard HSS Strat. It sounds decent, but nothing compared this baby. This thing has a great clean shimmery tone but when blasted through my EL84 tubes, provides a lot of distortion for 3 single coils. I love the sound!

What a Strat should be

By shovelhead

from Monroe, WA

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I played both the Deluxe and the Standard for comparison prior to making my decision. Even playing through a solid state amp at the music store the decision was easy. I didn't even employ the S-1 switching before making my decision so I was truly comparing apples to apples. The S-1 switching clearly adds to the tonal palette if youۡre looking to muddy things up a bit. The craftsmanship of the Deluxe is top of the line for a production model and the setup was super easy per the instructions. The bridge works flawless and stays in tune. I love the pop in whammy bar as opposed to the old thread in style. The locking tuners are beautiful, easy to use, and probably a big help keeping this thing in tune with heavy whammy use. Oh, and strap locks included. What a deal. What I didnۡt like was removing the protective coating off of the pickguard. It didnۡt peel like it was supposed to and took a fair amount off effort to clean it up good. BUTۡ_ۡ_that has nothing to do with craftsmanship or tone. Playability, well, this thing plays like butter. No fret buzz, super comfortable neck, it just feels right in my hands. As far as sound. I play through a VOX AC15 using a Fulltone Dejavibe, and the Deluxe just sings beautifully through any pickup combination. Today, I decided to run it through my sons DSL 401 Marshall. THAT was the sound I wanted!!! Just incredible. The Deluxe just lights the Marshall right up. Throw in a TSA approved hard case, no regrets buying this one. Well worth every penny I also play a Gibson Les Paul, and a Gibson Firebird. The Deluxe easily compares to both of those, but in a single coil sort of way.

My Tungsten Maple Neck

By Michael G.

from Fuquay Varina, NC

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I waited three months for my Deluxe Stratocaster to ship out, but was amazed by the quality of the guitar. The finish is immaculate, the neck is amazingly smooth and has great playability, and the locking tuners make changing strings so much easier. I did have an issue with the D string buzzing and the tremolo bar causing a squeaking pitch when use, but a 30 minute stop at Guitar Center in Raleigh got all of the issues fixed. The guitar is extremely versatile, for clean or distorted sounds. I am very satisfied with the guitar, and the service that I received from Guitar Center's staff.

Perfect, sacred, embued with magic!

By Marco

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Fender does it right. This particular model is everything I had hoped for. That classic sweet sound and control at your fingertips. Manufacturing and packaging was flawless...every millimeter shines with quality and care. But it's that sound that kills me. Get whatever color you want, but this guitar as Fender issues it, is the perfect model whether you want that cutting siren sound of David Gilmour, beautiful chorus of Eric Johnson or the subtle sweetness of Jeff Beck You can find it in this magic instrument.

Love my American Strat Deluxe

By Brian Wellmeier

from Dayton, OH

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought my Strat a year and half ago and love the classic design and especially love the classic Fender Stratocaster sound. Every time I heard a song with that Strat sound, I would crave to put one in my hands, even to the point where I would put my PRS down to do it. If you realize that you're buying something made in the U.S.A. that still employs Americans and at the same time, gives you a geat value, how could you pick something else. Fender was able to give you the noiseless pickups without losing the tonal qualities you expect when you plug into your amp. After a while you just take the noiseless system for granted until you hear another guitar buzzing! The other cool thing is the S-1 switching that will give you more tone choices and a little more depth to match sounds with songs you've hear over the years. I will never sell or trade this guitar and will be happy to will it to my son! Get one, play it, support our U.S. craftsmen!

Why did I pay so much?

By Oscar

from woodbury, MN

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar at a time when it was much more was not an issue. I knew I wanted a strat and I logically concluded that this would be the best choice. I also bought a Blues Junior amp to compliment this guitar. Here are some issues: - The tremolo arm keeps falling out because it is not screwed into the bridge, but simply inserted. - I use 13 gauge heavy strings and when using the tremolo arm extensively it makes a cracking noise and bends in a way that I feel like itۡs going to break and rip the bridge out. - There is buzzing in the strings . - I like the sound of this guitar only when the S-1 switch is on, which reroutes the pick-ups to give them more substance. Without the switch the guitar sounds really terribly and has little sustain. When it had the thin strings on it just sounded bad. The only plus of this guitar is that it looks very beautiful. So I use it as living room decoration next to my other guitars. If I will ever want the squeaky strat sound again I will go for a Mexican made strat. Hand rolled edges? Forget it.

Big step up from the American Standard

By Robert Davis

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Just got my 2010 American Deluxe, Olympic Pearl/Rosewood neck, from Guitar Center this week. Had a 2008 American Standard, good guitar. But when I finaly got the cash to get the Deluxe I jumped at it. Compound radius neck, beautiful, 9.5" to 14" plays 10 times better the the old one. N3 pickups are the best yet. A different magnet in each position-Alnico 5, 2, and 3 in bridge, middle and neck. Everyone who's heard them in studio's and on stage loves them. Clear, strat jangle, with personality.Their best noiseless yet. The S1 swithch has been updated with useable tones. Some with a beefy low-midrange sound, not unlike a humbucker, but still single coil soud. I got the SSS model don't like a humbucking on a Strat. It really is a dream to play.
