Overview

The Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass is built with modern features that bassists demand, with a newly designed preamp circuit that delivers deeply exhilarating active and passive tones. The Fender P-Bass' powerful-yet-quiet N3 Noiseless pickups present more clean headroom, extended EQ range, and even more sublime tonal options, thanks to the active/passive switch and passive tone control.

The American Deluxe Precision bass is crafted with a select alder body-a hard wood that provides clear tone and lasting sustain. A graphite-reinforced maple neck with modern C-shape, Posiflex graphite neck support rods, 5-bolt neck plate, and contoured heel make the Deluxe Precision bass extremely easy to play. The Fender High-Mass Vintage bass bridge offers compressed and focused bass tone, with more mid range punch. The American Deluxe Precision bass retains the Fender articulation and sparkle, combined with vintage-style saddles to maintain a classic vibe. A combination of a steel plate with brass saddles produce the best possible Fender Bass sound.

Fender N3 Noiseless pickups
Fender's N3 Noiseless pickups are among the best-sounding pickups ever affixed to a Stratocaster or a Telecaster guitar, providing unmistakable vintage sound without unwanted noise. In short, N3 Noiseless pickups deliver landmark vintage Fender tone and response without the hum that can plague single-coil pickups. Using an improved stacked-coil design, N3 Noiseless pickups are specially tailored for each Stratocaster and Telecaster pickup position-neck, middle, and bridge. The insulated metal core of each pickup position type differs in thickness and composition for enhanced tone, and Fender has fine-tuned the size, shape, and wire gauge of the coils to balance the magnetic responsiveness essential to great tone.

N3 Noiseless pickups represent a welcome return to the warmth and clarity of alnico magnets. Again, the type of alnico magnets used is tailored to pickup position-Alnico 5 for the power and warmth of the Stratocaster N3 bridge pickup and the signature snap and spank of both Telecaster pickups; Alnico 2 for the sweetness and sparkle of the Stratocaster N3 middle pickup; Alnico 3 for the fullness of the Stratocaster N3 neck pickup without undue magnetic string pull.

The active 3-band EQ, along with a split single-coil pickup and bridge humbucker provides a wide range of dynamic tones, so you can individualize and pinpoint your ultimate Fender bass sound. The American Deluxe Prescision Bass is perfect for players who want a top-of-the-line modern Precision Bass.

Other features include Stealth "A" string retainer, tinted neck, rolled fingerboard edges, highly detailed nut and fretwork, genuine bone nut, flat-head screws on battery compartment (for easy changes with a coin or pick), and pearloid dot inlays. Includes case.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

This bass offers everything I was looking for, and then some. It was perfectly set-up out of the box. All of the hardware and electronics are top-notch. It plays extremely smooth with great sustain. Finally, because this bass has a toggle switch to control whether you are using the passive or active option, the tonal possibilities are endless. And within each mode, passive or active, you have a lot of possibilities with the individual tone controls, and sweeping pickup control (allowing everything from 50/50 blend of bridge and neck pickups, to one or the other, and everything in between). In the active mode, you have bass, mid, and treble controls right there. You can get the traditional fat, low-end driving tone that the P Bass is known for by just using the dual neck pickup, or you can get a tone you would have never heard from a P Bass before. I can't say enough about this great instrument. I have the natural gloss, and it looks as great as it sounds. I'm sure I missed something, but basically as great as advertised, especially at that price point.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

I went to the Corona Fender factory last May and did the whole production floor tour, then upon returning home I just ordered and received the new Precision Bass American Deluxe, after selling my great Jazz bass (also american Deluxe series) from 2005, that was an active only bass. I own 3 fender vintage basses (Tele 1973, Coronado 1966, precision fretless 1978) and wanted to have in my arsenal a NEW sounding bass to complete the range of sounds I can have. I was convinced by the combo pickups setup of this bass, P-bass and J-bass (one) on the same bass and with the very nice quality electronics/knobs you can really select a nice mix of sounds from both pickups, have the p-bass nasal sound to the deep boom of the j-bass. The active/passive switch is also great, you can from one mode to the other without hearing it, the active is of course a bit more powerful but the passive (with a dedicated tone control) gets you the vintage sound that you may need. I was surprised by the factory setup of the bridge, neck etc... I checked with an electronic tuner EVERY fret and it is PERFECT. The Ash body color and finish are fantastic, the neck is so smooth and easy to play so last but not least this bass is a pleasure to hold and play !!

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

I have owned and played many versions of Fender basses,as well as playing most major name production basses. This is head and shoulder above the best production bass I have ever touched. Tonal variances, massive head room, comfortable feel, quiet pickups, and quality workmanship highlight this bass. We'll worth the investment. Not to mention striking good looks.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

This bass is lighter than my 2005 American Deluxe P bass. The pickups are just what I've been looking for as the tone goes. Has a great feel and and look. The workmanship was flawless on the White Blonde Maple Fret Board model I purchased.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

The best thing about this bass is the active/passive switch. It's like getting two Precision Basses all in one bass. The feel and response of this bass is excellent. I give it 5 star over all.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

I have been playing for 33 years. I have been pro, semi pro and now I just play for fun. I grew up in an era when there was a big influx of imported non Fender brands. I owned Arias Westones, Wals, as well as Rickenbackers and Musicman. Each and every one of them were excellent in their own way and I spent years avoiding the Fender band-wagon but was unable to find something I really loved. I got close a few years ago when I came across a '96 P deluxe. I bit the bullet and tried it out. I realized what I had been missing and it was very nearly everything I wanted. Then a few months ago I went into my local GC and tried the new P deluxe. OH MY !! It was love at first sight!! It had everything my other deluxe had and more. I loved the fact I could now choose between active and passive and save battery life. I found the bass better balanced on the strap - the older one was a bit neck heavy. I love being able to get the guitar to sound like a jazz or a P bass. It plays like a dream. Well, I finally found my bass after many years of searching and I will be selling pretty much all the others.................Yes... I love it THAT much!!!

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

I have owned Musicman, Aria, Westone, Yamaha over my 30 year playing career. I have spent my life searching for the perfect balance in sound, playability, finish, tonal response and overall comfort. I found it in this guitar. I already own a 1983 Precision and a 1996 Precision Deluxe. Ironically, I ordered the Jazz deluxe because I had played one in the store and really liked it but the salesman made a mistake and ordered the precision instead. When it arrived I was disappointed till I spent a few minutes with it and I was sold!! The craftsmanship is easily better than the P standard series and than most guitars out there. Fender doesn't always concentrate on high end hardware and factory finish but they pulled the stops out on this one!!! It is nicer than my 1996 Deluxe because I can choose active or passive and it is weighted better. I find the neck on my '96 to be too heavy and I am constantly adjusting my strap. This one hangs perfectly. Fender never set up their guitars from new and nor do the guitar stores it seems so spend some time getting everything the way you want it. I adjusted the truss rod, bridge and pickups and the intonation is 100%. I am very happy right now and I think my searching days are over. Now I can get on with playing - Rock on !!!!......

            As Good As It Gets

            By William Gray

            from Portland, OR

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

I bought an American Deluxe P Bass a year ago and I can honestly say this is the best Fender bass I've ever played. Given that I also own a 1964 P Bass, that's saying something. My vintage bass is fabulous, but it's a one trick pony. With the American Deluxe I can access a wealth of tones, perfect for whatever song or genre I'm playing. The three band EQ, active/passive options, and P/J blending let me rule the bottom end or cut through the mix with ease. It's spendy, true, but considering how versatile it is, it's like getting 3 or 4 basses in 1. With this bass, you only need to take one bass to the gig. Truly 5 stars. Great job, Fender!

            Versatile as can be

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

I am very very happy with my recently purchased Fender American Deluxe P-Bass. Strung with some D'Adarrio medium gauge flatwounds, this bass can mimic anything from the grit of Entwistle's 1960's P-Bass to the brightness of Jaco's 70's jazz bass to the thump of Jamerson's P-Bass. The natural finish is gorgeous and matches well with the natural maple neck. The bass didn't come out of the box with a perfect setup, which I'm finding is typical of Fender instruments (even on the other American Deluxe Jazz Bass that I purchased.) If you can get the bass set up by a quality technician it will feel even better than it does right away. I use this bass with a Markbass Tube 800 and with the two voicing filters on there can get pretty much every sound you could ever want. To me, this bass has the visual aesthetic and the sonic flexibility that I like in an instrument.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass:

Recently purchased the three color sunburst with the rosewood board. Needed this bass like another hole in the head but couldn't resist. Kept it for a few days with all the plastic on it to make sure it was a keeper. It's a keeper....bass has everything I would want: P/J p/u configuration, active/passive capability, bone nut, straplocks, contoured heel, massive bridge, serious case. I just had to adjust the neck a bit, lower the action to my taste, and will probably put on "half-rounds". One thing it would be nice for Fender to do is offer the sunburst with a maple board. Another thing is offer the natural ash (which I almost bought) with a little vintage tint in the finish. The body and neck look too "sterile" and bleached out IMO. Otherwise I'm very satisfied so far with the bass.
