The Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass delivers the modern features that bassists demand in a sleek, familiar electric bass. An updated preamp circuit puts out deeply exhilarating active and passive tone. Powerful-yet-quiet N3 Noiseless pickups present more clean headroom, extended EQ range, and plenty of sublime tonal options, thanks to the active/passive toggle switch and passive tone control. The classic Fender Jazz Bass block fretboard inlays and binding give the Deluxe Jazz Bass extra touches of class.
The Fender American Deluxe J-bass is built with an alder body-a hard wood that provides clear tone and lasting sustain. The maple neck with modern C-shape, Posiflex graphite neck support rods, 5-bolt neck plate, and contoured heel make the instrument extremely easy to play. The High-Mass Vintage bass bridge offers compressed and focused bass tone, with more mid range punch. It retains the Fender articulation and sparkle, combined with vintage-style saddles to maintain a classic vibe. The combination of a steel plate with brass saddles produces the best possible Fender Bass sound.
Pairing up these pickups with the Deluxe Jazz Bass' EQ and volume controls provides that notorious Fender Jazz bass sound that has mystified some of the world's most prominent bassists for decades.
Other Fender features include Stealth "A" string retainer, tinted neck, rolled fingerboard edges, highly detailed nut- and fretwork, genuine bone nut, flat-head screws on battery compartment (for easy changes with a coin or pick), gloss polyurethane neck finish, and a gloss urethane body finish to dress this bass in ultimate style and beauty.

I bought the 2011 American Deluxe Jazz in black. No issues with electronics, jacks, pickup function, fit, finish.....anything! Was able to adjust the action well down to my liking without fret buzz. New N3 pickups and active tone is great; wide range of EQ adjustment available. The body shaping and finish on back and front of the maple neck make it a joy to play. Comes in a newly designed TSA flight case that I like, easy to open latches though bigger than previous case designs. My other bass is a Ric and this is quickly competing for favorite.
I already have an older model American Deluxe Jazz bass, which I LOVE, but I was really taken aback by the new model. The wine model is gorgeous and plays great, except...I got this shipped direct and played it less than 5 minutes before the cable started popping and losing the connection when switched to the active side. Luckily, there's an authorized Fender repair shop down the road. Come to find out the high-tech cable jack is a piece of #$%@. When you pushed the cable in, the wire terminals slid out the back of the jack. Fortunately, the shop had a Telecaster jack that was compatible (though somewhat different) and the guy who repaired it was awesome. Fixed it right on the spot! Okay, so I guess Made in USA means "assembled in USA," because the jack seemed like it was made in some Third World country. How this got past quality control is beyond me. Anyways, now she's good to go, sounds great and I'm ready to take it out on the road. Coulda been 5 stars Fender!
This is the cream of the crop of Fender Jazz basses. Sharp, classic looks combined with the sound that shaped Rock and Roll (and countless other genres). If you're serious about bass, and like the vintage look, feel and sound, this is the bass for you.
By far the best sounding Bass I own. Just think of all the bass sounds that came out of the late 60's and early 70's - This is your bass if you are into that sound.
I bought this bass about 2 months ago, it has a very nice warm sound. i put D'Daddario chromes on it and it sounded even better. i run it through my Gallien-Kruger half-stack and it sounded good pretty much anyway i set my tones to. i have loved fender basses for a long time, but this one is definately at the top of my list. It is great! i recomend it to any bassist, for any style of music!
This bass has great looks along side some great sound. I personally like the black on black because it really makes the chrome accents pop. I would prefer having a pickup guard just for more of a classy and retro look. If you love fiddling with the tone this bass has plenty of knobs to feed your need. Personally, I don't need that much tonal control but that doesn't stop me from using them. The fret board has a very nice feel in your hands and it is all very nicely balanced. If you are looking to improve your arsenal of basses, this baby is it. It's also an american deluxe so you know that it will be in excellent condition right out of the box. I highly recommend this bass.
That's my opinion, but I've been waiting for Fender to step up in the boutique type bass market. Fender nailed it. Electronics, graphite neck rods, hmv bridge, bone nut, tricked out fret job.Beautiful inlay and binding. Absolutly awesome bass. I have been playing for 32 years. Picked up the bass.Bought it immediately. Bought the black with maple board. What a beauty !!! Time to buy a 5 string next.
From my experience of playing, and i've played a lot of basses from Fender, Gibson, Ernieball Musicman's, etc., the updated 2010 line is incredibly impressive. Aesthetically, the bass is beautiful. The block inlays are very retro, the binding on the neck has an added touch of class, and the attention to detail in every aspect of the instrument is impressive. The sound from the N3 is a tad hotter than the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless, but still retains the incredibly low noisefloor. With the addition of the S1 switch, the transition to passive after a dead battery is much less detectable compared to other instruments. You're getting every penny's worth for this instrument.
