The 5-string Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V delivers the modern features that bassists demand in a sleek, familiar electric bass design. An updated preamp circuit brings deeply exhilarating active and passive tone. Powerful-yet-quiet N3 Noiseless pickups present more clean headroom, extended EQ range, and tighter low-end response. The tonal options are vast, thanks to the active/passive toggle switch and passive tone control. These amazing electronics effortlessly handle the low B string with impeccable tone and seismic power. The classic Jazz Bass block fretboard inlays and binding present the Fender American Deluxe V bass in a rightfully classy light.

The bass is crafted with an alder body, a hard wood that provides clear tone, and lasting sustain. The maple neck with modern C-shape, 5-bolt neck plate, compound radius fretboard, asymmetrical neck profile, and contoured heel offer fast action, silky- smooth playability, and make the American Deluxe Jazz Bass extremely easy to play all the way up the neck. The high-mass vintage Fender bass bridge offers compressed and focused bass tone with more mid range punch. It retains the Fender articulation and sparkle, combined with vintage-style saddles to maintain a classic vibe. The combination of a steel plate with brass saddles produces the best possible Fender bass sound.

Pairing up these pickups with the EQ and volume controls provides that notorious Fender Jazz Bass sound that has mystified some of the world's most prominent bassists for decades.

Other features include Stealth "B" string retainer, tinted neck, rolled fingerboard edges, highly detailed nut- and fretwork, genuine bone nut, flathead screws on battery compartment (for easy changes with a coin or pick), gloss polyurethane neck finish, and a gloss urethane body finish to dress the Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-string in ultimate style and beauty. Includes case.

This bass is great for all styles of music. The bass plays smooth and is easy to maintain. The only hassle i had where finding the right strings. The strings it uses are taper which DR sells. The bass is a great choice for starters and experts and is perfect for any style of playing. Perfect for gigs and is a light bass. I would definitely recommend this bass to anyone.

Good News: This is an awesome bass in so many ways, but there are some things you need to know before you invest almost $2K for this bass. Everything on this bass is top notch. The neck is near perfection for a V-string, the bindings, the inlays, the materials and craftsmanship are superior of any of the dozens of basses I have played. I love playing this bass and always get compliments from other musicians. I have the olympic white, and it is really nice. The tones, with the right strings, allow for a great versatility in the active position as you can blend the tone controls to get a pretty decent P-bass sound or Jazz sound. Great for slapping sound. Literally you can experiment for hours with all the variations available - that is truly the deluxe part of this bass. Now the BAD news. NOISEY PICKUPS. So it says Noiseless right on the pick up, but the shielding and RF hum in certain environments is terrible. Because of that, I cannot recommend this bass. I was lucky and got this Open Box for a really cheap price. But at the regular price, do not buy this bass, unless you are prepared to get new pickups and shielding done to this guitar. It is so sad, as everything else about this bass is pure greatness. And what should be the best part of this bass, the electronics, just does not cut the mustard at this price level. I have MIM versions and passive Fender P-basses that sound 3x better. Great guitar, bad electronics and RF buzz. My plan is to invest in some Aguilar or Bartolini's, etc. and have it shielded. I think once I do that, it will be super sweet!

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass:

I bought this bass as I returned to playing after a 30-year hiatus. I like the weight balance, the tone quality, and the quality of parts and workmanship. However, a major defect in this instrument is that Fender did not shield the electronics. As a result, it picks up RF hum depending on where I am an what I'm facing. I looked inside of the pickup, tone control and battery cavities and there is no shielding at all. Very poor design and cost cutting choices for a top-of-the line bass. Not recommended at all.

          Surprisingly Complete

          By Charles Hammell

          from Moorestown, NJ

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass:

I re-entered the bass-playing world after a 30 year hiatus. I was thinking of a boutique bass. But I finally decided to go with this one. I am really happy with the overall quality. The workmanship is fine. The quality control seems excellent. I still need to get the action to my liking--but Fender provides plenty of guidance on how to do that. I am happy with the weight and balance--surprisingly manageable for such a large instrument. But what really shines is the tonal options and the excellent voicing of the strings across the entire fingerboard. The lower registers are as clear (or muddled) as I would want. But really impressive is the upper registers. The tones just sing up on the 12th+ fret range. It never sounds pinched like other basses do. Nice job, Fender.

This Jazz bass guitar has an amazing sound, and the deluxe features make the pick ups so much more manipulative; and even at that, the quality of sound is still awesome.

          bad experience

          By ERICK ISQUIERDO

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass:

I was very excited about this bass when I first got it, after couple months I started having trouble with the knobs coming loose, nothing really mayor, then the pick ups start making a loud noise i have to use it in passive mode to get rid of the noise, specs on this bass say the are suppost to be really quiet, last thing the paint on the body start getting air bubbles since I didn't get guitar center extended warranty I call fender but they said that is not something that they will cover under their warranty, I always like fender basses but this one is a big dissapointment, if you buy this bass I will recomend you all to get the guitar center warranty, because you may have a lot of problems.

          This'll be my last stop....

          By Mike Edell

          from Tampa, Florida

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass:

I have owned this instrument for about 3 weeks and I have to say, this axe has ended my search. I love this bass. I bought an ADJBV in the year 2000 and it is a nice instrument but I missed the vintage sound/look. The new one (2012) is simply fantastic. Perfect fit and finish. Even tho' the body is 3-pc, they did such a great job matching the grain of the wood, that you can hardly tell it's not 1-pc. It plays like a dream and sounds exactly right. The B-string is so clear, that even when it's fingered, it sounds as tho' it's open. The pre-amp is voiced just right. Very vintage sounding but also powerfully punchy. There is so much tonal range that it sounds great even if it's set flat. The only thing negative I could say is that the natural finish model (that's what I have) will look a bit like the Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V to the untrained eye. Now, we wouldn't want anyone to think we had the inferior model, would we? Maybe a "spiffier" pick plate would set it apart. All in all, this bass is "the goods". Although I do not have much experience with J-Bass clones made by other companies (Ken Smith, Sadowsky, Mike Lull etc.), I could not imagine spending more money for them when you can have the real deal.

          amazing bass

          from kenosha, Wisconsin

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-String Electric Bass:

This is my first new bass. I had a 5 string fretless Cort performer series which obviously couldn't compare. There are so many tone options with the bass alone, not to mention any that are available on any amp. I like a low smooth tone that I can easily get with this bass, and with the locking strap setup coming with it, you can't go wrong. By far the best bass I have ever played. 5 stars for you Fender
