Never played a strat until a year ago when i received a Mex Tex Strat as a gift. Loved it! Ordered the Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster for all its little goodies it has. Let me say that this is a Great guitar The pickups can get a wide range of sounds and tones...Sweet to Nasty and back. I had only one thing wrong with my order...The guitar had a big dark spot in the woodgrain below the bridge under the finish, clearly a 2nd and should of been priced...accordingly. But like a puppy, once you pick it up and play with it...it's yours! The neck is better than any strat i have picked up. Gets the old sounds with no hum...and then some. Great guitar.
This Strat was purchased for one reason, (other than being another Strat for my collection)...it had the most beautiful finish on it I had ever seen. Fender's Aged Cherry Sunburst is something that should be studied and emulated by some other manufacturer of guitars with that finish. But the sound...WOW!!! The new Noiseless pickups are great. I still need a little noise suppression in my pedal chain, but not like I do with some of my other Strats. With features such as locking tuners, pop-in trem arm and rolled fingerboard edges, nothing else is need to make this great classic any better. I liked this one so much, I went and got a second one in the 3-color Sunburst.
This is quality, class, style and grace. A Bass player for over 20 years who enjoyed playing guitar, I bought the best, sweetest, most beautiful sounding, looking and playing ax I have ever touched. I have the tobacco Sunburst with Rosewood, and play it the a Vox Valvetronix AD50VT 50w 1x12 - awesome. This is a legacy instrument.
I was very fortunate to get the ash body, Madeira sunburst, with rosewood neck before Fender stopped making them. Finish is beautiful. Sound is clean with a capital "C". From the factory, the action and intonation is near perfect. I play it through a Vox AC30. If you belong to the Fender club, this is a must have addition to your collection. If you've never owned a Strat, buy this one. Is it the best guitar in the world? I don't know. Is it the best that I have played? Yes! And I've been playing for 50 years.
When I first tried this guitar at the store, I knew I had to have it. When I finally got it home and plugged it into my amp, I was amazed. This guitar can give anywhere from the nitty-gritty 'Skynyrd sound, to that Buddy Guy tone we all love. Once you start playing it, it's hard to put it down.
It was time for me to get a Strat and I let all possibilities on the table when I went to the store to play them, including the reasonable customs, HSS, and vintage used. Most of them sounded great but the Ash body on this guitar stood out from the rest in warmth and sustain. Since a Strat is supposed to be bright and punchy the little extra warmth really made this baby stand out from it's brothers. I played them all and just kept picking this one back up. The Tobbacco Sunburst finish looks amazing. On top of that the S-1 switching is really cool. I've had it for a week now and am starting to find what works best with my amp (Mesa/Boogie Lonestar Classic) in different situations and I find myself leaning on the S-1 tones all the time (Especially in the neck and bridge positions.) That amp has a million great tones in it as well and is a perfect match for this Strat. With ten different pickup configs there is are endless ways to get those electrons flowing through your tubes. Buy this guitar... don't try to save a few hundred by shorting yourself and your tone... sound cool, be happy
I've had this guitar for over a year now and it only gets better. I opted for the Tobacco Burst with Rosewood fingerboard and couldn't be happier. The Samarium cobalt pickups manage to put out all of the bite you'd expect in a Stratocaster, while cancelling the noise normally associated with single coils. The S-1 switch works just as advertised, with sounds ranging from classic Telecaster to mild humbucker thickness. The fretboard is a dream to play on with no rough edges, and the Abalone fret markers are a classy detail. The finish is flawless. All in all this is a great guitar that is not only comfortable to play, but a pleasure for the senses. Truly a modern classic that will stand the test of time if cared for properly. Well done Fender!
For the past two years I have been playing on a Jackson with EMG pickups and a 3 position pickup switch...for the most part it served it's purpose, mostly for metal. When I picked up the American Deluxe Strat I knew there was no other guitar for me. There is such a wide variety of tones it seems almost endless. The guitar is beautifully crafted and and for lack of better words...sexy. Yeah you can get ok sounds from Gibsons but have fun paying thousands of dollars for the name on the headstock. Anyways all the greatest guitar players in history played strats.
This is the guitar I've been waiting for. Action, Frets, Playability, Sound, Looks, but hey it "IS" a ~Fender Strat~! I did do a lil' cosmetic modification on my sunburst, but.. it was awesome straight off the wall, ( I just helped make it perfect). The s-1 is a cool addition and mine has the blues tone max for the mid/bridge pup conf., way cool sound possibilities.
i could not find anything i liked more than this, and i cant imagine anything better. the neck is super smooth, and it plays great. this guitar has lots of tonal options. the pickups sound great. it was hard putting it down just to write this review! lol. its a great guitar and im honored to own one.
