I've been playing for a while now and I have plenty of other equipment now but this was the first electric package I ever got. For starters, this is the best package out there. The amp WILL last you for life it is one of the most suprising and durable amps I own. it packs quite a heavy punch with excellent distortion and plenty of volume to practice a irritate your neighbors as well (hehe). And once you get better, just put new pickups in the guitar to improve the intonation and you're set!!!

Okay, let me start out by saying, this guitar is not exactly a great one. A player with more then a few months experience will probably hate it unless they put some serious money into it or mod it somehow. However, a new player, will find complete satisfaction here. It has that classic Strat look and feel to it ((although it might be lacking a bit in sound)). But for how cheap it is, the sound is actually really good. The amp that they give you to use however, around 6 or 7, will start to really distort the sound and I actually had to get it repaired a few times due to it shorting. Speaking of that, the cords will also short fairly fast, so I suggest you buy some cords to go with this ((nothing too fancy, just some cheap ones will do)). The gigbag they give you also works fairly well, it can fit your cords and guitar, but not much else. The tuner works but barely. It will likely confuse and frustrate a newbie who doesn't know the basics ((like what each string is called and different tunings)). The headphones are actually surprisingly efficent and can allow for someone to practice without disturbing parents, siblings, or neighbors ((but isn't that half the fun of an Electric?)). The DVD can help to teach a few neat things just to put someone on the right track too ((also, maybe buy a few picks for them, as newbies tend to go through them like quarters at an arcade. also, don't spend your money on like "Beatles" picks or other brand names, if you're new, just get them some standard Medium picks. Guitar Center even gives some away.)) So all in all, I give this value pack a 3. It's really good for a new player, although for a bit more, there are better ones. But if you are experienced, you will probably start to hate it pretty fast. But if you're in the market for an X-Mas or Birthday gift, this is great.

Takes some getting used to

By Maxwell M.

from San Diego, CA

I didn't buy this exact pack, but it was similar--the on I have didn't include the strap or headphones. Anyway, I got this as a Christmas gift, and I was really excited. It comes in a drop-tuning, so I had to fix that up. No big deal. The biggest problem was that the jack is very sensitive--If it's not in the right position, all you get is white noise. Luckily I've fixed that in my guitar. The tone knobs don't seem to do very much--I wonder why? Speaking of tone, it sounds amazing--much better than my old guitar and amp--but I have one minor complaint, and that is it doesn't "distort" very much if I want to play a heavy song. But all in all, it's an amazing instrument. I reccommend it for any level guitarist who's on a budget.

Decent Starting Kit

By Colton Harrington

from Gaithersburg, MD

This was my first guitar and amp. Though i've since upgraded to a Marshall half-stack and a Nightfall, i still have this one to play around with. The 15g Frontman amp this guitar comes with is fantastic! Great volume and distortion settings. The guitar itself is ok, and with a few minor tweaks you can really improve the sound quality. Investing in some new pickups will make this guitar sound like its worth way more than you paid for it. Overall great kit to start and i would recommend to any starting guitarist.

Not what I thought it was

By Anthony Le Calvez

from San Diego California

I bought it, not being a beginning guitarist, and I was disapointed by the product over all. When we first bought it, the amp didn't work so we had to go replace the whole package, and then with the new package the headphones didn't work. Then later as I started to use the guitar, the pickups started to malfunction, and the smallest E-string couldn't be heard unless the volume was really high. The the small peg at the bottom broke. then the actual peg. The craftsman ship is not great, but it's fine for a beginning guitarist, and it's only $250 so you get what you paid for.

Great combo for the money

By Dan Graves

from Juneau, Alaska

I ordered this combo pac as a gift for my grandson, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I've been playing it for the last few days since it arrived, since I don't have to give it up until Christmas. As with any new guitar, some fine tuning was required initially. After about an hour changing out the strings, adjusting the neck relief, string intonation and string height with the hex key wrenches included with the kit, it was ready to go. The neck plays well, with no high frets or string rattle. As a point of reference, I have been playing and repairing guitars for about 40 years now, and own a ES335 Gibson, and several Gibson and Martin acoustics. This little "Strat" plays better by comparison than any two hundred dollar guitar has a right to. It holds a tune pretty well, unless you use the whammy bar, which knocks it right out of tune. I took the bar off after a few minutes. As far as the Fender Frontman 15 goes, I have not encountered any of the issues that some of the other reviewers have reported. The clean sound is perfectly clear, with no hiss. The controls knobs all work as they should, and the gain control allows the distortion to be easily dialed in when drive setting is selected. For the money, it would be very hard to improve on this combo.

I LOVE THIS GUITAR PACK! The amp is so Loud and Cool. It has the perfect clean sound you want. But if you want that dirty Rock N Roll sound you surely can GET IT ONCE YOU TURN THE GAIN UP! The guitar has a great clean sound as well. It has a variety of tones to choose from. I just bought this package two months ago. And I love it. Everytime someone comes over they want to play it so bad!! But I'm like HANDS OFF!! The only downside to the package is they don't give you a guitar stand or batteries. But it comes with an electronic tuner, head phones,(if you want to practice in private), picks, Instructional DVD, and strap. The strap is a little cheap. But you can always buy a new one. It's a great guitar package for beginners. Its very affordable.

Its Ok

By Todd

from Beaverton, OR

As far as what I expected from a starter kit, I was disappointed. There are no manuals, which is not good for someone who is unfamiliar with an electric setup. The DVD that comes with kit does not cover the functions of the guitar or the amplifier or tuning it. Fender suggests on the DVD that you try different picks and yet they provide only 3 medium picks in the kit. The head phones provide are very large and do not stay on. This is not good especially since there useless for my kids. Cannot speak for the amp or the guitar as these are my first. So now I have the equipment but I still have to spend more money to understand it let alone play it.

Good, overall

By Ben

from Las Vegas NV

I got this guitar over a year ago for Christmas, so its had some time to break in. Its a pretty good guitar, the amp is also good for practicing, although sometimes there is some feedback and static. My advice, get new strings and a strap. The strap broke after a few months while I was playing, and the guitar almost hit the ground (luckily I caught it before it did), and the strings would go out of tune if you bend them or use the whammy a lot. Also, they tend to grind down VERY quickly on the spots where they contact the frets ,again, if you bend them a lot. It is my first electric guitar, so of course I'm going to say good things about it. Its good for beginners, but if you are going to preform I would recommend getting something else. I play lots of classic rock and older songs, so it suites my needs. Four stars because the strap broke, nearly breaking my guitar, and the amp has a static white noise if you turn the amp up past three. Overall, its a good guitar, a little cheaply made, but still a nice one for the price. I would recommend buying it if you are still learning, or if you need a cheap practice guitar.
