I recently recieved my dream bass, a Fender American Deluxe Jazz V. Coming from a 35" scale Spector Euro that had a great low B string, I bought these strings with the hopes that they would give me a better B for a 34" scale bass, they delivered! Great balance across all strings, with each string producing an even volume. These strings feel great and sound amazing. There wasn't anything about them that I didn't like. They slap well, produce nice warm sounds if you are a finger style player, and sound awesome and loud and bright with a pick. I was a big Rotosound user for the longest time. I really never even thought of buying Fender strings. I will be buying a lot more of these very soon. You should check them out!

Previous reviews of this product may have been for the older formulation of these strings. When you've used the same strings for a while you tend to notice when something has changed. These strings are not what they used to be. I used the 8250M strings for years until they recently changed manufacturer and now they are totally different. No more colored silk at each end, harder to wind on narrow tuning pegs. They have a rougher, stiffer cable-like feel providing no piano-string vibe from the instrument, and an over-toning quality that is nerve racking. The taper on the E string is not as thin either resulting in less springiness. Now they have colored ball ends. Who is this for? If you need colored ball ends to determine which string is which you shouldn't be playing the instrument. Very disappointed in Fender now, need to find another brand that will give me the punchy, grunty, clean driving tone I used to get with the older version of their strings.

Fender wants the best possible sound on their instruments when they leave the factory & this is their choice. I respect that.

Comments about Fender 8250-5M Nickel-Plated Steel Taperwound 5-String Bass Strings - Medium:

I use these strings on both of my fender 5's. The only drawback is promotions. I never see a promotion or sale on these strings and would hope that they are considered for a price reduction or sale in the future.

These are the strings Fender puts in their basses in the factory & there's good reason for it. Alive, consistent across & up & down the fretboard.

Fender had the silk ends removed to just plain wire winding. The D & G strings need about 1.5 more inch of length for basses w/all 5 strings pegged from the left side only. Still, a great sounding/lasting set for the money!

I Love the tapered "B" & "E" Strings. It helps to get the action lower when using the 130 guage "B" string. My Fender American Deluxe 5 string requires strings through the body. The taperes strings "taper" are the perfect length to make them fit perfectly. I wish other string companies were smart enough to create these.

Comments about Fender 8250-5M Nickel-Plated Steel Taperwound 5-String Bass Strings - Medium:

Like most bass players I've probably had every set of strings available on my American Jazz Deluxe 5 string basses and I have to say I keep coming back to these. Years ago Rotosounds were the big thing. Those were great at the time but as I started to get sets of those with strings that were already dead I decided that quality control must be a thing of the past at Rotosound. These strings are hard to beat. I like the DR Longhorns but to me they just are not worth the ten bucks extra they cost. These Fenders just seem to work with the Fender basses and they also seem to fit the best. They are made specifically for those basses and it shows. The sets are well balanced. The tone for me is perfect. Not too bright and not muddy although I'd love to see Fender to come out with a 1.28 or 1.25 "B" string. These seem to last as long as anything else if you wipe them down when you're through playing. I wasn't crazy about the new packaging but hey if it keeps the price down I'm all for it. I think these are a good bang for the buck and I play a good thiry hours a week between live shows and recording. You can pay a lot more for strings all saying they're all this and that but if you have a Fender these seem to be truest to that Fender sound without breaking the bank!
