You thought Fender only made great guitars?

By Gilbert Stevenson

Comments about Fender 70CL 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Strings - Custom Light:

I've been playing semi-seriously for the last 20 years. I've tried many brands of strings. Now I pretty much ONLY play Fender 60cl or 70cl strings on all my acoustics. They have a "warm tone". They break in fast. I stretch them 3 times, tune to pitch, and play them till they'll no longer stay in tune! I play on our Worship team every week, and I play vigorously. I change strings every 6-12 weeks, depending on whether I've been fingerpicking or flat picking. They have all the qualities you want in a performance string: inexpensive, great tone, easy playability.

Maybe not for a beginner

Comments about Fender 70CL 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Strings - Custom Light:

I'm a new guitar player and in the "experimenting with strings phase." I was given a 2 sets of these. At first I thought they were great, but that was before experimenting with Elixirs. I broke a string and without back ups of those I had to put these back on. I really noticed a difference. I originally used these on a Fender CD-60 that was a gift that & I had to trade in because it was too big for me. So I thought the sound & feel difference was the new guitar. I realized it wasn't when I put them on this new guitar.I will say I used them for almost a month of playing on my Fender and they didn't need changed once. When I traded it in, they said they still sounded good. I got over 20 hours of play time out of them with still life left. For me, these are hard to press to get a clear tone. They sound good if I'm really pressing down and perfect, but I found the Elixir phosphoric bronze coated much easier to get a good sound from. I may give these another try once I build up strength. Right now I feel like I have to kill my fingers for a good sound on these. Can't wait to get some Elixirs back.
