Overview

The Fender '50s Esquire Electric Guitar is the electric guitar that started it all. Originally released in 1950, it was Leo Fender's first marketed design. The single-pickup precursor to the Telecaster, the Esquire features an ash body, maple neck, vintage-style bridge with steel saddles, volume, tone, and a 3-way quick tone-change switch.

3-way switching
The 3-way toggle switch gives you 3 preset tones. In the bridge position the pickup is only connected to the volume control (the tone control is disconnected). This minimal circuitry provides more top-end sparkle than a Telecaster. In the middle position the standard tone control circuit is activated and it functions just like any other tone control. In the neck position the tone control is disengaged, but a tone-shaping capacitor is added that rolls off a lot of the top end and some of the bottom. This setting produces darker tone along with slightly less volume.

Includes a gig bag.

50's cool!

By Jamie

from Mendocino California

When I was a kid of 6 or 7 my Dad gave me my first electric guitar and amp He had just played the grand ole opry and bought a new Tele and A twin Reverb that was 1963 ....Yeah i'm an old rocker!,...So the rig he gave me was his old blonde Esquire and a tweed bassman. Now I would love to tell you that I still have that rig,.. but thats another tale for another time. Nostalgia got the better of me a while back and I ordered the blonde /maple esquire from G.C. I was playing a bobfest ie "Dylan" tour and that guitar was nothing short of sweet right out of the box, I grabbed my peterson strobe and plugged in and the intonation was almost perfect, the set up was fine for me and my left hand as well, plugged into my kendrick Badassman and was surprised at the bite this little rascal had, The 3 position switch is a work of art in its own and while the middle position gets the most work Both the tone cut and straight in are nice assets as well, this guitar has a smaller neck radius than my other teles and Strats and thats not a bad thing just takes a little getting used to. the fit and finish are superb and I found that the frets rolled at the edges are almost as good as my USA units. The only down side is the gig bag ,but I hate all of those and at the price I wont kick too hard. After living with the Esquire for a while now It works in all my amps and has a permanent place in my tour rig. So if you dig 50's cool and tele bite,.. grab one of these little darling's and I promise you wont return it!!

Fender Esquire

By mike

from bancroft, michigan

Don't let this Hot Rod slip by ya. Although it has just one pickup in the traditional bridge position, you can pull off alot of tones with it. I have had the opportunity to play the Esquire at guitar center in Flint, Mi. And Elderly's in lansing and was blown away. The 3 way selector has usefull tones wired in. All the way back is wide open, middle position adds treble, forward position a softer darker tone. Many pro's have used the esquire for years. Jeff beck, Bruce Springstine, ect. it rocks. Don't let its simplicity fool you. I will be buying the sunburst with maple neck soon. hopefully the black one too !!!!!!
