I was looking for a strat that I could turn into a player and gig with. The original floyd rose and 9.5" radius neck were the main draw for me. The original floyd rose makes a guitar at this price point worth buying. I went with the brown burst and impressed me and my wife. Gorgeous brown burst that looks 10 times better than the picture. The pickups will be replaced with a Pearly Gates in the bridge, SSL-1 RW/RP middle and SSL-1 in the neck. This will complete my Mexican Beauty and provide the tonal quality i'm looking for at my price. In the end a great player to gig with. I'll be able to get Gilmour, SRV, Clapton, Gibbons, Fruciante, Hendrix with the new pups.

  • WARNING: Not a Floating Floyd Rose

As reviewed by Tom Gorbas on 5/6/2013

I am retired and just a guitar hobbyist. I bought this guitar and returned it the net day. Why? First of all, guitars with Floyd Rose tremolo have a well cavity cut into the guitar right under the rear area of the tremolo. This void is for when you pull up on the whammy bar, the Floyd Rose dips into that cut out area, thus floating Floyd Rose. What Fender did with this setup was to take a standard Fender guitar body (no cut out for Floyd Rose), and added the Floyd Rose tail piece. So, when you try to pull up on the whammy bar, it can?t go anyplace, per the Floyd rose will hit the guitar body (may even chip the finish there too). Therefore, you are limited to just pushing down on the whammy bar. Yes, some people with the true floating Floyd Rose do not want to pull up on the whammy, so they inserted a $5.00 locking screw devise (remove back square cover plate) and it was places by the whammy 4-large springs. What happens now is that you can only push the whammy down. But, you still have the option to remove the lock screw devise and use it a true whammy bar up and down motion (true floating tremolo). I would not have bought this guitar, if Fender would have been upfront and mentioned that is was not a true floating tremolo. And, Fender should have mentioned there was no cut out well for a floating Floyd Rose. If you do not want a true floating Floyd Rose, then the setup will still keep your string in tune, and work great. But, I also did not like the craftsmanship of this guitar. I will not nitpick it here, per every guitar comes from the factory differently. So another WARNING: When you pick it up at the store, look it over very carefully. If you are a beginner, then find a friend that can help you. As for me, I still wanted a Fender with a true floating Floyd Rose. Guess What? Fender actually made them, but stopped production in the 1990?s. So, I went on line and searched for one, and I bought a mint condition 1993 Fender Squire with true floating Floyd Rose (it came with original hard-shell fender case). And, yes I love it. But, being it was 20 years old, I went to Guitar Center and had them install new LACE ?Hot Gold? Pickups (HSS). And, add a 3-way small toggle switch (on-on-on), so I can split the ?H? humbucker bridge PUP 3-ways. Now how cool is that? I love Guitar Center in Winter Park Florida. They really helped me out with no hassles to return the new Fender and they helped me to build my 1993 Fender.

I bought a the black version about 4 months ago. Awesome guitar! This is my first guitar after 20 years of playing that has a tremolo (or in this case a Floyd Rose) and I was worried about tuning stability, as I have other hard-tail guitars. But, this guitar's tuning is absolutely stable! I highly recommend it!
