The ideal beginner/intermediate bass!

I got one of these back in 07' mine is colored midnight wine with rosewood neck. The bass is great in that it can cover a variety of styles from rock to funk; finger and slap. Also, in deciding between a Fender Jazz or Precision, one should consider that you can get a pretty good P-bass sound out of a Jazz, while it is harder to get a J-Bass sound out of a Precision. Overall, the construction and hardware of the bass is good for the price. I would recommend swapping the bridge for a Leo Quann Badass Bass Bridge, and if you really fall in love with it, some Seymore Duncan or Dimarzio pickups can bring out even greater sounds from the bass.

Great bass for a great price!

Now I have never played and American Standard Jazz Bass, (I tried not to touch things I couldn't afford), but let me just say, this is one of the best basses I've played on. It's a giant step up from my Squire. You can get some really bright tones for slapping and popping, and more mellow tones are achievable too. I got the brown sunburst, and I'm going to buy a tortoise shell pickgaurd to make it look even nicer. Go get one!

Really Nice Jazz w/o too much $$

I have an American Standard Precision with the maple fretboard and really like the feel. I also have a Geddy Jazz Bass which has the maple too. I was wanting a bass with a "in- between" neck, not as big as the Precision but thicker than the Geddy. I seen the new 09's were available with the maple fretboard and that's what I like. The USA's are real nice but I didn't want to spend the money at this time for a MIA Jazz so I thought I'd try the Standard Jazz. I went to GC to check them out and found the candy apple red with a maple fretboard. I really liked the feel of it. The neck was smooth and fast. It feels very close to the MIA P's neck as for as smoothness. I ended up ordering a brown sunburst w/ a maple neck and put a brown tort pick guard on it...nice. The frets are nice and in my opinion the pu's are fine. The bass has good tone and good playability. It looks really good, well-put together. The only flaw I found was the input where the jack plugs into was loose, the jack wouldn't snap in. I found this with all 3 of the jazzes I tried. I took the control plate off and bent the clip inside and now the fit is tight. I would recommend this bass to anyone...beginners on up. I use it over the MIA P right now because of the feel. I play through a Fender Bassman 250/210 which makes for a good match. Lots of punch. I think it's a really nice bass and the price is right...at least for me it was. Btw, I ordered it on a Sunday and was playing it that Tuesday. Good service. Thanks GC.

Awesome bass!

I got this bass last summer, and it is awesome! Often when I am asked to play bass for someone, and I have to use their bass, all I can say is "man I wish I had my fender!" The neck is perfect for me, and the bass sounds great. Overall, it plays better than a lot of other entry bass' that one might consider buying. You can't go wrong with the Fender Jazz!
