  • Tele sweetness!!!

As reviewed by CORNELL D PEARCE on 12/15/2013

I special ordered a new one about 1 month ago and I can't get enough of this guitar; the playability and feel are exceptionally smooth. The compound radius birds eye maple neck feels great and feels fast. I'm able to get warm, round tones as well as crisp, traditional Tele tones though my Mesa Lone Star 2x12 combo clean channel. The two humbuckers really sound thick and dirty when I turn up the gain, or run through my overdrive channel or my distortion pedals. The guitar is chambered & lightweight- it sustains beautifully. Got a great deal at GC, but it is an expensive guitar. However: the SOUND, the playability, finish, feel and look all put it in very nice company. You could spend close to $1000 more for a similar quality PRS, Music Man, Gibson or even $500 more for a Fender 'select". For that matter, it is about $300 more than an American Deluxe Tele. So I'm glad I bought it, can't wait to gig or record with it. It's a great guitar that I know I'll own and play for a long long time.

  • Bought it for the looks, keeping it for the sound

As reviewed by Arthur Hagen on 9/9/2013

For being a Tele, this has a very warm sound, with the twin wide range humbuckers and the serial/parallel switch on the tone knob. The pictures don't do it justice - not even the pictures on Fender's web site. The fret markers aren't "black dots" as the description states, but dark abalone. With the quarter-cut maple neck, it's just gorgeous. Not to say anything about the wood finish. With neither a pickguard nor a control plate, you really get to see the wood, and it's jaw dropping. Compared to my Classic Thinline '72 (MIM), this plank is much more playable. Due to the chambered construction, it is as light, if not lighter than the Thinline. The fretboard is nice and round at the nut, and flattens out as it approaches the bridge. This makes bending and high barres much easier. The frets are the new bigger style, which I normally dislike, but they work well on this model. It has less "twang" than the Thinline, but an incredible amount of sustain. And with the tone switch set to parallel, and a clean amp setting, it is a joy to fingerpick. Recommended strings: Ernie Ball Cobalt .009 If there's one thing I didn't like, it's the case, which is not good quality at all. It doesn't fit the guitar all that well, the locks are not well aligned, it doesn't balance on the handle, and I don't know what they sprayed it with, but it stinks like Reno. But you won't buy this for the case anyhow, but the guitar. And believe me, it is worth every red penny.

  • Outstanding/Classy

As reviewed by EMILIO JIMENEZ on 8/14/2013

I have quite a few guitars in my collection and I am very specific about the sounds/feel I want to give a tune. It is difficult to achieve all your goals with one instrument, but I must say this one is as close as you can get. The fine attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the finish to the feel of the neck, tuners, etc.... Fender has really outdone themselves with this beauty. The price point is extremely reasonable for the value you get. This guitar can deliver warm rich sounds if you want to play it with no effects, which I occasionally prefer.... or it can be an absolute beast with overdrive/distortion. The chambered body allows for an incredible sustain when you want it. If you want to play rhythm you have endless choices of sounds. It is light and comfortable. I would put this up against any guitar out there in the $5k-$6K. range. Kudos to Fender!
